the root of all evil
i walk beside you
another won
afterlife
under a glass moon
innocence faded
raise the knife
the spirit carries on
six degrees of inner turbulence
vacant
the answer lies within
sacrificed sons
octavarium
metropolis

i was a bit disappointed...i was hoping for more scenes and more train of thought but its really good either way
i think it woulda been awesome if they played 6:00 or erotomania

Atica 09-01-2006 03:00 PM

Yeh, more Train of Thought would be better, anyways it is good. Ytse Jam would be great to see live.

ThisGuy 09-01-2006 03:39 PM

I really didn't like Score's setlist when I first read what is was. It was the same thing with some songs in Budokan, but when I saw the songs perfomed live in the dvd, I started liking them a lot. It was the exact same thing with Score. The songs grew on me quickly.

and the first time I listened to it, it was on my old *** tv with one of its built in speakers broken. I could only hear the right channel so Petrucci's guitar was barely audible, especially during his solos. Even so, I still enjoyed the performance. I listened to a few minutes of the dvd on my living room's tv after, and it sounded perfect. I'm gonna buy a dvd drive for my computer tommorrow so I could listen to with my good speakers.

ghettoeddo 09-01-2006 04:57 PM

mMm jem's are sexy...

the documentary is one of the best things haha. john myung talking = gold

the spirit carries on has an extended petrucci intro like hollow years on budokan, but better. i know hard to believe.

Jev 09-01-2006 05:20 PM

Score's setlist is meant to work out to fit the 8 and 5 theme used in 8v.

ThatOneDrummer 09-01-2006 06:25 PM
Score's setlist is meant to work out to fit the 8 and 5 theme used in 8v.
never thought of that...how so?

Lord Abortion 09-01-2006 06:26 PM

I'm such a dickwit, I just realised that Score is called that because a score is 20, and it's their 20th anniversary show. :(

And the musical score part, obviously.

Jev 09-01-2006 06:37 PM
never thought of that...how so?
8 songs in the first part of the setlist, 5 in the second, with the orchestra.

8 parts of six degrees are played, then 5 more songs afterwards

5 of the 8 songs of 8v are on the setlist

Wow...I love how DT and Tool both seem to put these kind of hidden stuff into their music.

ThatOneDrummer 09-01-2006 08:45 PM

yeah i know, like theres this huge story behind the artwork in ocavarium and in the title track theres lots of themes from the rest of the album...how long that must have taken to write makes me dizzy

Inkstar 09-01-2006 09:35 PM
nope...that's a big problem w/ score. six degrees is listed as one song, all 40 minutes of it :(
It's not a problem at all. DT always intended it to be one full 40 minute track, but unfortunately they had to split for the album. I think it's great that they didn't split for SCORE because that's how it was intentionally written, and how it should be.

lak89 09-01-2006 10:46 PM

yeah DT puts so much hidden stuff in their music, wasn't there a morse code-ish thing found in the middle of "In The Name Of God"?

Got my copy of Score, absolutely amazing

Wow that's amazing, they really know what they are doing. That's why they are the greates band ever.

yeah and the morse code says "eat my ass and balls" its mike portnoys motto
in the part of octavarium where james screams you can hear mike say "root, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, octo" and during each number the track that corresponds with that number(root=the root of all eveil, so on) is played in the background

Atica 09-01-2006 11:06 PM

Yeh, that part of Octavarium is preetty good, and the changes from one type of song to another are well adapted.

ghettoeddo 09-02-2006 01:30 AM

there are WAY too many sembalnces and gems...

octavarium is probably my single most favorite track thus far.
and again...labrie's singing is really ace on score. it's VERY good. most of my friends who normally don't like his voice had to admit it was bearable and decent,

Inkstar 09-02-2006 04:31 AM

Octavarium has so many nuggets it's not even funny.

It's amazing.

I know, his vocals deliver just as good as the I&W tour, maybe even better. Can't wait to get this DVD after listening to the CD

Inkstar 09-02-2006 07:41 AM

My CD comes on Monday. :D

Jev 09-02-2006 07:48 AM

My DVD came today :D

It comes up as black and white on my PS2, so I'll have to watch it downstairs later.

6-String_Slinger 09-02-2006 02:49 PM

We could go way way into all the intricacies of 8vm, the song and the album. But as far as Score goes, wow! Phenomenal show. I think the setlist is definitly a better representation of Dream Theater over all as opposed to Live at Budokan. Budokan was a shredfest. This is a prog-fest. I know almost everyone was dissappointed (as was I) when the ToT song for the show was "Vacant" but it was done to best match the orchestra to DT's sound. Honestly, do you think a 35+ piece orchestra could have worked on "This Dying Soul"? All the players perfrom amazingly. LaBrie definitly stands out for the night, his vocals were nothing short of stellar the entire show. Portnoy (probably with the curfew in mind) rushed A LOT, many parts of Six Degres, Sacrificed Sons, 8vm and even Metropolis lost their groove. You can see Petrucci turning around and giving Mike a look like "come on man, chill!" but oh well. They all did amazing and we're lucky to have such a great dvd on our hands. To those who were there, I envy you! how will/can they top it?

Thor 09-02-2006 04:34 PM

Anyone seen this video?

It's a really impressive cover of This Dying Soul. The musicians also make some pretty funny expressions from time to time as well. Certainly something worth watching.

By shaving john's beard off and doing it again.

Thor 09-02-2006 04:38 PM

...and on another note, Overture 1928 is amazing. I've finally gotten into Scenes From A Memory and I just can't get enough of that track.

ah Score's out!?

The DVD Live Scenes From New York is fantastic. I never bought the album just downloaded a few tracks, so now whenever I think of the album or a song off the album I think of the live version, I like it that way though cause its a great performance.

You should buy it

ThisGuy 09-02-2006 07:35 PM

Sacrifised Sons was my favorite part of the dvd. Seriously, that ending with orchestra! It couldn't have been any better! Funny thing is that I always skipped that track when listening to Octavarium but now it's one of my favorite songs.

That was pretty ace, check out his cover of YTSE jam, they pretty much nailed it.

Thanks Thor, just made me realise, I in fact have been listening to the wrong 'This Dying Soul' for pretty much the past year. Thanks dude

This is why you shouldn't download music, I also know I have the wrong As I Am, I wonder what else from ToT I have that's mislabeled...

Edit: I ****en love This Dying Soul. :o

HAH! When the guitarist goes to get feedback at the start he looks like he's chucking a piss. :P

Miek 09-03-2006 04:13 AM

K, well I didn't really like Images and Words, do you guys have a reccomendation for a different album that I might like?

Chu 09-03-2006 04:28 AM

Depends on what you like...

I think Awake is a pretty solid album, from all fronts..

Dude please upload that "fake" track cause I thought the fake As I Am was a pretty ace song and I'm guessing it's by the same band? Anyone know what band it is? And yeh go with Awake, it's got a more "darker" feel to it.

MRDuCran 09-03-2006 09:05 AM

I downloaded a few mislabled DT tracks off of ToT too I think, but now I have it, it's my favourite album by them. I haven't actually listened to every song but the one's I have are amazing.

Jimi Haze 09-03-2006 09:09 AM

Nothing beats Images and Words.

'Nuff said really :D

Although Train of Thought is good for the heavy stuff, I'm firm on 'In the Name of God' being one of their best songs (if you can call it that). Still.....doesn't match up to Metropolis IMO

jpshortstuff 09-03-2006 11:23 AM

/hasn't got Score yet
/hides

in my defence i just ordered a ToT shirt a few days ago so i dont have much money

Lord Abortion 09-03-2006 01:02 PM

I still haven't got it yet, either.
I&W is still my favourite album:)

pep 09-03-2006 01:34 PM

I&W is my favorite also. I just bought SCORE and its awesome, although i fell asleep during Sacrificed Sons, but Metropolis makes up for it.
