I'll do a pretty good cover of a Floyd song.

Also, I really like the DSOT version of Comfortably Numb a lot too. Mostly for the parts at 6:24, 7:22, and especially 7:36. I don't even know how Gilmour does that.

BigTrav415 10-05-2005 03:42 PM

One funny thing I've noticed is that Pink Floyd never did a cover of anyone. Well, unless you count pre-PATGOD Syd-led PF, before they even started writing their own stuff really. But I mean, they've never done a serious cover. It's pretty ironic, a lot of really famous bands built part of their career on covers, like Led Zeppelin and Guns N' Roses (definetely GnR), and then you've got a great band like Floyd, who never has done one. Just goes to show I guess.
I disagree entirely. Covering your own genre is boring. I think the best covers are when people cover a song of a different genre. Otherwise it's just the same song with mild changes.
Hey, everyone's got an opinion. :)
The only reason he didn't sing it on the album, is because his voice was in terrible shape, and they wanted to get it done.
Or maybe it's because Pink Floyd were very influnced by the legendary Roy Harper and wanted him to gace them with his presence? ;)

Yeah, wasn't Roy in the studio next to them also? And they asked him to do a track on their album by chance?

Its all gravys 10-06-2005 02:35 AM

who sang dogs and who sang sheep??? roger or david?

a mixture of both.

Roger fecked up his voice from singing shine on, and dave didn't like the way the song sounded when he did it. they chose roy harper as opposed to anyone else because of the huge respect they had for him.

Its all gravys 10-06-2005 02:41 AM

what did roy harper sing???

Riva 10-06-2005 03:45 AM

Roy sang Have A Cigar on WYWH.

On Animals, Roger sings all the songs, except for Dogs, where he sings the part of the second, younger dog, and David is the older, wiser dog.

Its all gravys 10-06-2005 04:13 AM

ok thank you, i sometimes find it hard to distinguish their voices... who sung goodbye bluesky, mother, shine on you crazy diamond, money and us and them??

moaner 10-06-2005 08:51 AM

Ah, dave is such a wise dog.

Gilmour has a wonderful voice. He can have a considerably deep voice, or a rather higher voice.

Generally though, I would say Gilmours voice is actually deeper than Waters.
Goodbye Blue Sky-Dave Gilmour
Mother-Waters does the bits asking "mother" the questions, Gilmour does the answers.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond-Roger Waters does the main vocals
Money-Dave Gilmour
Us & Them-Dave Gilmour, although I think Richard Wright does some as well.

As a general rule, most of the vocals on everything post Dark Side Of The Moon are Waters, up till he quit. Before then Gilmour and Wright did most of the singing. If the vocals are higher, they're likely to be Gilmour.
I've always thought Pink Floyd were underrated when it came to vocals. I mean, you've got Dave and Roger who both are amazing, and Rick Wright who gets no credit. Waters had such a haunting voice, too.

The news about the DVD is great. Lets hope they're releasing it just to get people exciting for a new tour (even if that will never happen...)

robo2448 10-06-2005 01:13 PM

Gilmour's voice is much better than Roger's. I love the contrast in their singing styles though. Roger's always seems like cold and spooky, and Gilmour's is so soothing. Both have great voices. Wright has a good voice as well.

standard 10-06-2005 01:15 PM

Wright definatly gets no credit. Hell I never knew he sung anything until about a month ago.

I've said it before, Gilmour's voice fits some songs perfect, and I couldn't image Waters' on that song, and vice versa.

I've always liked Waters more, actually.

Water's voice is good too. I just like Gilmour's. Roger Waters has absolutely no voice now though, and Gilmour's is still great.

standard 10-06-2005 01:20 PM

Well, I'm sure the fans miss it, but I hope it bothers him.. He deserves something for walking out of the band.

I still can't believe they got back together again.

Thats true, although I thought he did Comfortably Numb pretty well at Live 8. I wonder if Wright's voice is still in good shape.

He did alright with CN. Wasn't quite as spooky as it was originally, but still good. On WYWH though, let's just say Gilmour's voice fit that song a lot better.

Did Waters even sing on the original? I doesn't sound like he does at all.

magicbus 10-06-2005 02:05 PM

I'm pretty sure it was just Gilmour on WYWH.
Did Waters even sing on the original? I doesn't sound like he does at all.
Originally it was just Gilmour. They just traded off verses for Live 8.
