Robo, if you cant get LAP up I'll give it a go/.

ATM 10-04-2005 01:57 PM

Have you guys heard of the Machine? They are a Floyd cover band that I might go see.

moaner 10-04-2005 02:22 PM
My Dad sed that was crap.

Who to belive, you or him :upset:
when I say "your dad is wrong", i don't do so lightly.

robo2448 10-04-2005 02:25 PM

I've got LAP uploaded. If any of you who aren't on the CR mailing list want it, post your e-mails here so I can send it out to you too.

standard 10-04-2005 02:33 PM

The other day I heard a cover of "Have A Cigar" and even my mom was like "wow this is pure ****" I was like yeah.. It's a cover of a Floyd song, she was like.. They ****ing destroyed it.

ANYWHO, anyone have any idea what band it is by chance.. It was pretty heavy. I wanna make sure I don't buy that bands music, and destroy any CD i see by them.

ATM 10-04-2005 02:35 PM

Why does it matter? The original is still there for you to enjoy.

Sam 10-04-2005 02:36 PM

It bothers me when people cover classic Pink Floyd songs. They know it's gonna suck by comparison. I'd cover my least favorite PF song and try to make it better.

Broken Arrow 10-04-2005 02:53 PM

I know Primus covered it.

robo2448 10-04-2005 03:00 PM
I know Primus covered it.
I know Primus covered Animals. I remember downloading a cd where they covered it. I've never listened to it though. One of These Days I'll give it a chance.

Broken Arrow 10-04-2005 03:04 PM

It's not Primus on that album, its the Frog Brigade. I think. But they did a good job.

robo2448 10-04-2005 03:06 PM
It's not Primus on that album, its the Frog Brigade. I think. But they did a good job.
Oh I knew it was something with Claypool. Who's in Frog Brigade? I should give that a listen.

Broken Arrow 10-04-2005 03:08 PM

I dont know except for Claypool.

Oysterhead has Trey from from Phish and Stewart Copeland form the Police on drums.

Yea I had high expectations for Oysterhead but didn't really their cd for some reason.

Broken Arrow 10-04-2005 03:11 PM

Yeah, I havent heard much but the stuff I have heard is weird.

it was the foo fighters.

Who i also don't rate.

But i think that song is pretty overrated.

The original? I absolutely love that song. The Primus version wasn't half bad, either. Les Claypool is supposed to be a huge Floyd fan.

Wow...I don't even want to think what "Have a Cigar" sounds like with the Foo Fighters.

No offense to the Foos, but cover something of your own genre. Like some organic pop-rock crap. Not Pink Floyd.

Broken Arrow 10-04-2005 05:54 PM

On that hurricane relief thing they did a really good cover of CCR's "Born on the Bayou".

Jude 10-04-2005 05:55 PM

The Primus version of Have a Cigar, but as the guy said, I would hate to hear how the Foo Fighters handled Floyd.

At least it wouldn't be as bad as Korn raped ABITW.

thickasabrick 10-04-2005 06:21 PM

I didn't mind Tools version of Hey You. They basically tried to mimic the original exactly tonewise and everything...although I prefer Pink Floyd's version a lot more.

BigTrav415 10-04-2005 08:00 PM

Well, I finally got a new computer (and a new big hard drive :) ) So if anyone could upload the full video of LAP, it would be much appreciated. I will buy the DVD eventually, I just want it to have on my compy for now. Thanks in advance :)

Yeah...Korn sucks.

But that's like one of the worst Pink Floyd songs to me. 'The Wall' is my favorite Floyd album but that song...meh. The only thing really cool about it is the guitar solo.

For me it's the opposite, The Wall is one of my least favorite Floyd albums but that song is definitely one of the high points.
On that hurricane relief thing they did a really good cover of CCR's "Born on the Bayou".
Yea that was a good performance. Singing was a little off, but still cool.

I love Have A Cigar from WYWH. Awesome intro, awesome outro with the solo. I like Roy Harper's singing too and I love the lyrics. Definitely a 5/5 for me, but I love all the songs on WYWH.

I like ABITW Pt. 2 a lot. But it's definitely not one of Floyd's top songs.

LF96 10-05-2005 09:08 AM

Who sang Have A Cigar live actually?

temporary 10-05-2005 01:19 PM
I didn't mind Tools version of Hey You. They basically tried to mimic the original exactly tonewise and everything...although I prefer Pink Floyd's version a lot more.
Dream Theater did a great cover of Hey You. Not much different, but still pretty good. LaBrie actually does a pretty good imitation of Waters voice.
Who sang Have A Cigar live actually?
Waters did.

standard 10-05-2005 01:19 PM

Waters... I'm sure.

The only reason he didn't sing it on the album, is because his voice was in terrible shape, and they wanted to get it done.

No one will ever / has ever do a good cover of a Floyd song.

*thinks*

Yeah, pretty much.

I disagree entirely. Covering your own genre is boring. I think the best covers are when people cover a song of a different genre. Otherwise it's just the same song with mild changes.
