Is the drumming still terrible?

i am the robots 11-22-2007 06:58 PM

It's not hooooooorrible anymore. They're still kinda gay though.

The new drummer is more creative than Tim Yeung was on ATB (which is not saying too much), but it's still obviously modern death metal drumming haha.

I checked it out, its not bad stuff. I may pirate it.

I wouldn't, they're very boring imo.
Veil Of Maya is really good live, and this is a pic of me from their show:

Quite liked the Decrepit Birth; seemed somewhat tasteful and interesting (my prerequisites for enjoying tech death).

Pete 11-23-2007 09:10 AM

does anyone listen to Torchbearer ?

publicastration 11-23-2007 12:41 PM

I like that Decrepit Birth!

I thought they were brutal death though (I never heard them before).

Tyler 11-23-2007 12:45 PM

Decrepit sounds like a totally different band now. The drums are a lot better, too. Still a little too clicky but it's great to hear them do something other than blast for 3 minutes straight.

Now they just sound like a Mithras ripoff, but it's a start. I mean just listen to how horrible "And Time Begins" is compared to the new stuff.
You look like someone really high.
yep

purplefeet 11-23-2007 10:05 PM

Decrepit Birth are pretty decent. Never really got into them that much but I don't mind rockin' out to 'em.

They do put on a hella wicked live show though. Bill, the vocalist is super chillin' too so it was fun hanging out with him and my buddies in Montreal a few summers ago.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 12:21 AM

There's a lot of not so good bands that put on a live shows, I can see it.

I am not a huge Death metal fan, but I actually really dig Decrepit Birth.
Its completely uncompromising, and 100% true to the "death metal" tag.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 12:35 AM

That's why it's boring, we've had death metal already, we need something fresh.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 12:52 AM

Meh. Its not boring to me. But I do not listen to one style of music for long periods of time.

Considering I will jump from jazz, to rock, then to classical, and then some metal, Decrepit Birth keep me interested enough.

Its also good to hear a band who is not trying to re-invent the wheel all the time, and simply refining their art. But thats just my view. :p

i am the robots 11-24-2007 12:59 AM

Well, bands that could be considered refining their art would moreso be Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation, who have, you know, been around long enough for it to be considered "their" art.

I'm in a generic DM band though, so I'm being hypocritical.

Haha, I spoke of it as a general term. Decrepit Birth seem to be trying to refine the art of Death metal.

For me CC are rather boring now. They are trying to become more modern sounding, but are still around ten years behind.
Their older stuff is still great though.

Suffocation are good though. But for me, they aren't really pushing the boundaries too much.

And your own band is only as generic as you make it :p.

ZapatoDiablo 11-24-2007 01:14 AM

Robots I've never heard your band I'm assuming you have a myspace or something?

i am the robots 11-24-2007 01:18 AM

I can't help the music, I just do vocals.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 01:26 AM

You any good at the vocals? Do you have any samples I could hear?

:)

Just thought I'd point out that you posted this while sporting a Through the Eyes of the Dead avatar.

The DB preorders look awesome 30 bucks for a cd, shirt, poster and other stuff.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 01:42 AM

The new DB album is finished? Wow.... I am out of touch!

Its pretty cool stuff dude. Kinda generic yes, but at least you are executing it well. There are a lot of bands who are generic (a lot more so than your band) and can't even play it well.

The vocals are pretty cool. I'm more of a singing person myself, but I like the occasional growl. Good to hear you mix it up a bit too instead of doing only lows.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 02:33 AM

I like switching it up more often, but the guitarist was like "we want mostly growling."

Josephmark 11-24-2007 02:34 AM

Has he heard Psycroptic before? A band that proved switching it up could work, and work well.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 02:36 AM

Psycroptic is sort of the but of a lot of the bands' jokes.

I've gotten them more into stuff like JFAC, TTEOTD, and Bring Me The Horizon lately though, so they let me do more varied stuff.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 02:38 AM

Really? I like Psycroptic....

They are also top blokes. You heard the last album? The vocals are a little less all over the shop.

Though I am weird with vocals I think. I tend to like the inhale style a fair bit, and all that gurgling kinda stuff.

Silenius 11-24-2007 02:40 AM

Chalky is a kickass vocalist. One of the few really tech death metal bands I like is Psycroptic.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 02:42 AM
Chalky is a kickass vocalist. One of the few really tech death metal bands I like is Psycroptic.
Ah, Chalky is no longer their vocalist though. They have Jason on vocals now. He is good, not as creative as Chalky though. But much more of a stage man, so it kinda evens out I suppose.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 02:53 AM

Chalk's voice crack's waaaay too much.

Silenius 11-24-2007 02:56 AM

Doesn't matter it sounds really cool haha.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 03:02 AM

I don't like how painful it sounds. I imagine my throat bleeding when I hear him.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 03:03 AM

Have you heard Jason on vocals? More solid sound.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 03:04 AM

He's more solid, but he doesn't fit their music, which isn't very good to begin with.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 03:08 AM

Yeah. I think he suited kinda well. Or I just got used to him.

I have seen him live HEAPS though. I find the recording to be completely lacking, and makes him sound mono toned, where as live he is a lot more present.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 03:16 AM

That makes me curious to see them live. If they play in the area some time, I might check them out.

Josephmark 11-24-2007 03:18 AM

Ah, see, being an Aussie, seeing them is like seeing a local cover band. It happens all the time, and its nothing to get excited over. hehe.

i am the robots 11-24-2007 03:19 AM

I see. Sounds like God Forbid in the states. Ugh, I can't count the times I had to see them and didn't want to.

dUSK 11-24-2007 04:01 AM

Chalky is an excellent live vocalist I thought. I remember he used to show up on stage in pluggers (flip flops). Made me laugh. Peppiat is ok, but live he can't match the speed of Chalky in some places. I agree that he is better live than on record though.

<3 Psycroptic.

God Forbid suck arse.

And tonight I will finally recieve my copy of The Dead's album. I whored them around here before but I don't think any of you took notice. I probably won't listen to anything else for the next week.
