The Dead Kennedys patch is covering a huge hole that used to be two little holes.

Ronald McRaygun 11-25-2006 11:54 PM

ya my hole is about that size.

nice shoe laces btw.

DaveToopes 11-26-2006 12:13 AM

Why don't you guys get shoes that will hold up?

Danger Bird 11-26-2006 01:48 AM

Because mine were the only leopard-print shoes I could find that weren't totally gay looking.
thanks. i was thinking of using fabric but i want to put something on it, I just dont know what yet.
I put an iron-on smiley patch on mine, but also sewed around it, because ironing will only hold for so long.

Those shoes have been to hell and back, though, and I am so on the verge of retiring them. I have two good pairs of converse that I can wear, so I have no excuse to be wearing shoes in such poor shape.

but I just like them so much :(

Ghostfire3 11-26-2006 02:24 PM

Yeah, chucks really don't hold up well at all. Mine are falling apart too. Holes forming on the sides and the soles are kind of coming off.

DaveToopes 11-26-2006 02:53 PM

That is why I don't understand why people buy them. Other than the fact they look stupid of course.

AIRIC 11-26-2006 03:45 PM

I have vans that are kind of like chucks and I just got my first rip after only 3 months :(

I bought them before I knew they would fall apart. I learned that the hard way.

old skools > chucks by a lot. you can get leather ones that will probably hold up longer. I've had my leather old skools for almost 4 years. i love them. i dyed them half black a couple of years ago. ill post pics when i get my camera back.

Ronald McRaygun 11-27-2006 01:13 AM

iv decided to put the choking victim logo over the hole. il post pics when i get a hold of a camera.

so you can wear drainpipes and a biker jacket and prance around pretending to be in the ramones?

lol

Jessizzle 11-27-2006 03:22 PM

hahah my converse mostly look like that. it sucks when it rains.

mullets suk 11-27-2006 04:08 PM

does anyone now how well pf-flyers hold up? ive had mine for about a month and they seem pretty good. im guessing about as long as chucks if not longer, cause the canvas seems to be of a thicker quality then chucks.

Flagjacket 11-27-2006 07:21 PM

PF Flyers hold up really good, yeah.

asdf 11-27-2006 07:52 PM

Speaking of shoes going to hell, I've got some really nice doc martens, and I've had them for about 4 years now. For the most part they are holding up amazingly, but I have a problem. The Sole is wearing away quite a bit, and it makes for easy slipping on the ice in the winter.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/asdf23/boot.jpg

I was wondering if any of you had any bright ideas on how to make the treds better, without going to get the boots re-soled.

Flagjacket 11-27-2006 07:54 PM

cut your own treads?

DaveToopes 11-27-2006 07:58 PM

That would be DIY as hell.

asdf 11-27-2006 08:00 PM

See, that's what I've been thinking. I've been trying to decide on the tool to use. Just a boxcutter? I may try a friend's dremmel. But I really want to plan it out before hand, because they're my only boots and they're nice.

Is there any other way I could do it without so much potential for disaster?

DaveToopes 11-27-2006 08:02 PM

Grip it and rip it!

nitzguy 11-28-2006 10:39 AM

burn/melt the treads in? just throwing it out there

Jon 11-28-2006 10:48 AM

Yeah I'd say melt them with one of those wallpaper stripper hot air gun things that look like a cross between a hairdryer and a glue gun?

But isn't there air in the soles?

*kicks feet up onto desk and squidges sole*

I think you might have more problems if you sort of get through the sole?

Go to a thrift store, pick up some for a few dollars and test it out?

coheneran 11-28-2006 11:00 AM

That's rubber isn't it? Heat up a fork or something and melt lines into it at intervals, about half a centimetre in, or however much you want it. Like branding a cow, but to the boot. Actually if you have an old brand lying around, that'd be pretty sweet.

nitzguy 11-28-2006 12:52 PM

that would be sweet, to put in your own little design and make your own brand

Danger Bird 11-28-2006 04:04 PM

You could just bend some thin metal into a design and heat it up on the stove or something, couldn't you?

asdf 11-28-2006 06:55 PM

Yeah, but my boot soles are pretty tough. I don't know if merely melting it will be that easy.
