Big Black - Atomizer
Patti Smith - Horses

OrbDragon 09-03-2005 11:46 AM

Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos...I almost forgot how powerful this record is.

Happymeal 09-03-2005 12:29 PM

I thought that Calla were dreary and boring, but it turns out they're a slick band after all.

edit: Pixies I like the new Coheed as well

YDload 09-03-2005 12:35 PM

DEP is an awesome live band. I doubt I would like any of their songs at all if I hadn't seen them go crazy on stage. Also the singer looks like he's going to kill everyone so I was kind of intimidated into liking them or else :(

Robert Crumb 09-03-2005 12:35 PM

Was just looking at the Pixies thread so I think I'll just listen to them for the rest of the day.

Dog 09-03-2005 02:15 PM

Blackalicious - The Craft (Yessssssss!)
The Paper Chase - Young Bodies Heal Quickly, You Know
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Tender Prey
Tindersticks are excellent.
Yes they are.

gatorz618 09-03-2005 02:21 PM

Interpol Rocks My Socks!

Zappa 09-03-2005 04:10 PM

I'm going to refrain from downloaded the leaked Blackalicious. Because I have willpower.

snidget 09-03-2005 04:18 PM
I'm going to refrain from downloaded the leaked Blackalicious. Because I have willpower.
Well, that's what I'm diggin right now (3rd listen today, and that number will probably be higher before the day is over)

EDIT: technically it's not leaked, you can listen to the whole thing on Amazon

Daniel! 09-03-2005 04:24 PM

Michael Franti and Spearhead - Everyone Deserves Music

Just bought it.

Zappa 09-03-2005 04:25 PM

I know that, but I won't listen on Amazon, either.

Bartender 09-03-2005 04:26 PM

When is it due out properly?

Zappa 09-03-2005 04:28 PM

23rd in the US.

Interstate 09-03-2005 04:31 PM

Mobb Deep - Hell On Earth
Run DMC - Greatest Hits

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 04:37 PM

I really like the first two songs of The Magic Numbers. Maybe I'll like the rest sometime.

Iai 09-03-2005 04:39 PM

I'm going to listen to the leaked Blackalicious. Because I have no money.

The only full album I listened to today was Art Brut - Bang Bang Rock & Roll. It's a really fun record. I knew almost all the songs, too, having seen them last week.

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 04:42 PM

Considering Blackalicious is one of four new albums I really want this month, I'm going to have to live on very little money for the rest of the year.

Bartender 09-03-2005 04:46 PM

I'm looking forward to getting back to University so I can start putting large chunks of my food budget towards music again.

That said, the Atheist reissues come out here on Monday, so I might have to conjure up £30 within the next couple of days anyway.

EDIT: As for diggering, I just put Someday My Prince Will Come on for the first time. Sounding good so far.

Zappa 09-03-2005 04:48 PM

What else is on its way, br3ad?

I'm hoping to obtain the first five Talking Heads albums from the upcoming dualdisc release.

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 04:50 PM

BTBAM, Sigur Ros and Arcturus...probably nothing for you to get excited about :p

Zappa 09-03-2005 04:51 PM

I don't like BTBAM or Sigur Ros. Never heard Arcturus.

Smackers 09-03-2005 04:54 PM

Gary Numan - Hybrid
Faun Fables - Family Album

Bartender 09-03-2005 04:57 PM

I didn't know Arcturus had a new album coming out. Is it with Vortex (Simen Hestnaes, or whatever his actual name is) on vocals?

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 04:59 PM
I don't like BTBAM or Sigur Ros. Never heard Arcturus.
You might like Arcturus. Tangy hates them, but pretty much everyone else I've shown them to thinks they are cool.

Here's an mp3
http://media.theendrecords.com/arcturus_crossedstar.mp3

All of their albums are different, the first is symphonic black metal, the second is just wierd and the third (the one the mp3 is from) is cool, I wouldn't know how to describe it.

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 05:01 PM
I didn't know Arcturus had a new album coming out. Is it with Vortex (Simen Hestnaes, or whatever his actual name is) on vocals?
Yeah, Vortex is on vocals. I'm kind of skeptical of what it will be like without Garm, but we'll see. There are bad quality copies all over file sharing. I'm jsut going to buy it when it comes out.

YDload 09-03-2005 10:03 PM

Here's something I've noticed for a long time about albums, and try to stay with me on this one:

Whenever a band releases two consecutive albums that are by and large considered to be masterpieces, the first album is almost invariably a bit more raw and maybe less defined, but it has a greater quantity of terrific songs. The second of these albums is usually a bit more polished and maybe even more popular (it sells more from riding on the wave of attention of that first album), but there aren't as many great tracks on it. Instead, that second album tends to flow better as a whole, and maybe one or two songs on it are better than anything on the first of the albums.

Does anyone else notice what I'm talking about? The first time I really noticed it was with Aenima and Lateralus, just to use an example of a more popular band, but I'm sure it could apply to bands that I'm not familiar with as well.

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 10:06 PM

Pavement

el doctor 09-03-2005 10:29 PM

Pinkerton was much more raw and harsh than the Blue Album. :p

But yeah, I definitely agree with that theory. While there's exceptions to every rule, I think in general that holds true for a quite a bit of bands.

YDload 09-03-2005 10:30 PM

Good, because I was wondering if I should just make a new thread about it, but my thread in Alt/Indie always do so poorly :( :( :(

br3ad_man 09-03-2005 10:48 PM
edit: Oh and speaking of br3ad's last post, the first two Pavement albums too.
Yeah that's what I was referring to.

In other news, "Blue Turning Gray" is my favourite Clap Your Hands Say Yeah song.
