I'm a lazy reviewer. Every now and then I'll post like a 2,000 worded one to make up for my days lost.

slowhand 09-25-2004 02:58 PM

Would Jet go under the classification of "Garage rock"?

Badmoon 09-25-2004 02:58 PM

sure

You're one of the best reviewers out there.

thickasabrick 09-25-2004 02:59 PM

my fave doors song is when the musics over...

new garage rock sucks. when it first came out around '69 it was awesome. most bands to come out of detroit in the late sixties and early seventies were consider garage rock.

magicbus 09-25-2004 02:59 PM

I like the Lizard song, and I like the White Stripes. Maybe some of their more mainstream songs suck, but the acoustic/folk ones they do on their cds aren't bad. I've also heard some blues stuff by them. You just shouldn't pay attention to stuff like Seven Nation army. As for the other garage rock, I don't like them. Especially Jet.

Badmoon 09-25-2004 02:59 PM

I try. :), and thanks :)

well, original garage rock were like The Beatles, but what those guys back then were doing was original and unseen. And had high emphasis on the vocals, which isn't like the crap now.

Woodstock 09-25-2004 03:01 PM

I think the Kinks are sorta garage rock. Good garage rock.

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:03 PM

I don't know, call me crazy, but I think Jet has the potential to do something great. That's just my opinion. I've always hated the White Stripes, whenever I listen a new song of them, I think I'm listening to the one before that. But if this bands have what it takes to put down Hip hop, then great, as long as I don't have to hear that crap they call rap.

And I've listened to Deja Vu, it's a great album. Love the vocals on the tracks.

Almost Cut My Hair=masterpiece

Badmoon 09-25-2004 03:04 PM

Yea, most of the earliest garage Rock was Blues influenced English fellas. The late sixties where like Punkish. Like The Stooges, and such.

Woodstock 09-25-2004 03:05 PM

My Dad loves the Kinks.

I think they're great, they really evolved.

From "You Really Got Me" to "Lola"

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:05 PM

Then under which category would you put a band like Cream?

Badmoon 09-25-2004 03:07 PM

Cream was to technical and Psychedelic. They stayed away from repetetive formulas.

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:09 PM

I think that Zeppeling took what Cream did and implemented it themselves to be what they were.

If you compare both bands closely, you'll see they are basically the same. Just that Cream were only together for 2 years. I've always hear people saying what it's great of Led Zeppelin, and what they did first before every other band, but most of those things Cream did first.

Badmoon 09-25-2004 03:12 PM

I believe the only band you can relate to Cream, is The Experience. They have a deep pychotic Blues sound that is complemented with some kind of Psychedelic sense. Which comes out of no where.

Woodstock 09-25-2004 03:16 PM

Good Point.

Zeppelin did incorporate Blues, but barely scraped psychedelia.

lunch998 09-25-2004 03:19 PM

The bads were also good friends. Hendrix's version of Sunshine of Your Love is cool.

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:20 PM

Maybe. But Noel Redding isn't in the same level as Jack Bruce. All that Redding did while Hendrix played was to play the same bassline over and over, the only other member of the Experience that pushed Hendrix was Mitch Mitchell.

But while Clapton did his extended solo, Bruce was right behind him, improvising, and the same goes for Baker. That's what made Cream's performance so famous. They all were taking by the energy the 3 members gave to each other to show their virtuosity and that they were truly the 'cream of the crop.'

Maybe what is because Redding isn't originally a bass player and only took it up because he needed money, but I think the Experience and Cream are way different.

I've always thought that Zeppelin capitalize on what Cream did, specially Page on Clapton. If Cream would have gone longer, Zeppelin might not have been as great as they turned out to be.

And now I wait for some Zeppelin fan to flame me.

Badmoon 09-25-2004 03:23 PM

Well, whoever said the relation was from skill? I'm just talking about similarities in general.

Woodstock 09-25-2004 03:24 PM

I want this as my new avatar. Can anyone shrink it for me?

It's 75 X 75, so just 5 pixels to big.

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:25 PM

I'm not talking about skill, but of their live performances. But that's not their general similiarities neither, I suppose. So I was talking, or should I say writting, out of context.

Badmoon 09-25-2004 03:26 PM

See, kids, there could be a debate. Hendrix vs. Cream

Woodstock 09-25-2004 03:30 PM

Please, anyone. I am horrible at computer techniques.

slowhand 09-25-2004 03:31 PM

Wooo... I like that! Great debate.

And I would help you Woodstock, but I don't have Photoshop any longer, so I can't. I use paint, and I don't know how to shrink them down in there.

magicbus 09-25-2004 03:59 PM

How lame. Basically! :thumb:
