not necessarily. it's not uncommon for a band to make a glorious album, then sell out and make shit music. or just skip the selling out and go directly to making shit music.

Scarch 02-06-2011 12:06 PM

I think I understand what Juddybear is trying to say. It would have been better if City of Caterpillar had produced more material.

But they themselves would not neccessarily have improved skill or talent wise. They would not neccessarily have produced better material, they may have even produced worse material, theoretically.

xMalcolmXx 02-06-2011 12:22 PM

lets all just agree that 5 amazing albums are better than 1 amazing album ok

christsimpson 02-06-2011 12:30 PM

let's agree that one amazing album is better than one amazing album and four shit albums

let's furthermore agree that the discussion as to whether City of Caterpillar would produce amazing or shit albums is completely fruitless due to a complete lack of theoretical or practical possibility of either scenario being carried out.

CompanionCube 02-06-2011 12:47 PM

but one amazing album isnt better than one amazing album and four shit ones

christsimpson 02-06-2011 12:52 PM

yes it is. who would want their favourite band to put out a bunch of shit music. perfect discography > one great album, a lot of shit albums.

xMalcolmXx 02-06-2011 12:59 PM

perfect discography with a bunch of releases > perfect discography with an lp and a split

dont think juddy was saying that he'd rather have city of caterpillar release more stuff even if it was shitty

yeah

Scarch 02-06-2011 01:08 PM

How about this, one amazing album is better than nothing, so enjoy what you have instead of complaining about not having more?

And take Alexisonfire for example (not Screamo), one amazing album, and then a slow gradual decline. Hey, other people like their other albums, so they exist for them, but to me Alexisonfire only ever released one album, their s/t. And for that I'm truly grateful.

i like your logic

Scarch 02-06-2011 01:16 PM

Thanks. :P

Also, as an individual, you are capable of making the music you wish existed. That is what I do.

Edit:
christsimpson does have a somewhat valid point though, a perfect discography gives a band a much higher reputation. If they had one awesome album and a slow gradual decline in the quality of their albums afterward, then when you recommended them you'd have to deal with a lot of people coming back and saying the band was only okay, or they didn't like it at all because, "Oh no, you listened to the wrong albums, you have to listen to their only good one!"

christsimpson 02-06-2011 01:50 PM

so I have this emo thread on a forum and here's one response I got:

"this isn't emo. the links you've posted are scream metal, also known as screamo. emo comes from the Norwegian word "emosjonell" [i.e. emotional, obviously], and the songs that so-called "emos" make are typically sad and voted down [no, I do not know what this is supposed to mean]. a good example of this is My Chemical Romance."

Scarch 02-06-2011 02:02 PM

That's hilarious. Sounds like he had an impression that My Chemical Romance were the epitomy of Emo and looked for a source to confirm that, grabbing some random link off google without knowing anything about what he was talking about.

But um... that sounded like a response to a comment I made in the Black Metal thread.
the split with The Black Heart Rebellion? is it any good?
Idk, just listened to it, not their best track. Adorno still kicks ass though.

publicastration 02-06-2011 02:18 PM

listenin to adorno now

this guy gets it, idk why everyone else is having such a hard time comprehending what i said, derps all around

Scarch 02-06-2011 03:01 PM

Because people over analyze and like to nit pick and get into pointless arguments. Bordom and lack of actually caring about the people they're talking to I guess... and maybe just a way of venting frustration. I've been there.

Juddybear 02-06-2011 03:04 PM

werd, new guy...idk why mad people are nitpicking at everything i say as of late

Scarch 02-06-2011 03:09 PM

Yeah, it sucks. I find in those situations the best thing to do is say nothing. Whenever I let myself get baited, I just end up absorbing more ridicule by people who think I'm stupid because they can't understand me. It's better that people think you're wrong when you're right than the other way around.

Juddybear 02-06-2011 03:11 PM

damn new guy, you seem mad reasonable and have somewhat good taste in music, youre alright

Nepenthe 02-06-2011 03:17 PM

justin's got a crush

Scarch 02-06-2011 03:17 PM

Haha thanks, you have good taste too. Capitalization and puncutation could improve the aesthetics of your posts though, if you don't mind a bit of constructive criticism. :)

I'm liking these boards, people know so much good underground music. The album rating/reviewing is what drew me to the site. I just wish you could see everyone's music taste pie in their profile.

Nepenthe 02-06-2011 03:18 PM

oooh shit another justin posting-style hater

words of advice new bro, don't pay any attention to the actual review site everybody there is an idiot just come to this part of the forums if you're actually looking for some good recommendations and conversation

and get used to an absence of capitalization and punctuation

Juddybear 02-06-2011 03:19 PM

anthony stoppit youre embarrassing me! *_*'

Scarch 02-06-2011 03:21 PM

Yeah, the review part of the site is starting to loose it's novelty.

Nepenthe 02-06-2011 03:22 PM

it's just a bunch of pretentious hipster fags who think they know everything about music but in actuality don't know anything and are actually retards

Juddybear 02-06-2011 03:25 PM

yeah the review site is awful, the posters there are insufferable, like, worse than the worst posters here

Scarch 02-06-2011 03:38 PM

Oh yeah, a lot of the criticizms on legitimately awesome bands' reviews were such intollerable rubbish. And then after saying a true work of art should conform to their ignorant taste they'd just start spamming back and forth about what they had for lunch or some crappy show they went to and saw tits flashed like they were 16 and still hadn't dropped their balls.

Is that what you're refering to?

Juddybear 02-06-2011 03:39 PM

every single post on the review site is what im referring to

Scarch 02-06-2011 04:07 PM

Lol, okay. Well for the most part they are glorified spam.

Juddybear 02-06-2011 10:26 PM

we all despise the review site if you havent noticed already lol
