Random note:
I just listened to the song Lateralus, probably the only time I've ever listened to it while not listening to the whole album, except for the day I used the song for a school presentation.
And you know, it's absolutely orgasmic.

I wish I had an excuse to listen to it for a presentation... However, during a fall pep-rally, as a Captain of my cross-country team, I said "Maynard ran Cross-Country!" That was a funny moment.

It was pretty cool, an optional assignment for music history, to pick a song that means something to you and blabber about it. Suffice to say, I was the only guy with a nine minute-plus song...

Nice. I'd like to think my expertise for Tool is in Stinkfist. Although, I doubt the fascist pussies in my school would allow an explanation on a metaphor comparing our society to fisting.

Stinkfist would definitely be great, and was one of the songs I was considering. But songs with cursing or sexual metaphors or the like were ruled out.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 12:02 AM

I probably would have gone with Lateralus as well. Either that or Shine on You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd because it would eat up half the period.

punk_related 06-24-2005 12:12 AM

Did anyone see The Mars Volta when they went on tour with A Perfect Circle? I bet that woulda been an awesome show, I can't belive I missed it.

SOYCD would be awesome! Haha. I'd love to sit around and listen to Pink Floyd for a period in school.

I saw TMV two or three years ago when they were on tour with RHCP and QOTSA and I have to say I wasnt impressed. I wasnt really into them. then but I would definitly go see them again with APC.

Any one hear anything on potential release dates for the new album? I saw aug 16th somewhere but I dont know where and what merit it held.

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 12:19 PM

rumors have it the dvd will come out august 16. not the album.

TMV are supposed to be a hundred times better than they use to be.

Kage 06-24-2005 12:28 PM

I'm coming in a little late, but Jake I really liked what you wrote about the meaning of Lateralus. I agree with what you said.

denboy 06-24-2005 12:45 PM
TMV are supposed to be a hundred times better than they use to be.
Exactly what I've heard... And they just cancelled the show I was gonna go see in a couple of days :upset:

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-24-2005 12:47 PM

They did the same to MA! I was going to see them and SOAD.

denboy 06-24-2005 12:48 PM

I wonder if it's Cedrics voice acting up or something of that sort

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 12:51 PM

Their previous album is mcuh better than their latest effort IMO.

IMO they were a little TOO experimental with Frances the Mute. It was really just one big mess...although I'd probably LOVE it live.

Huber 06-24-2005 01:05 PM

I just can't get into TMV.

I dont like FTM aswell

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 01:16 PM

I think, they sold out with the song the widow. How do you go from Inertiatic ESP to the widow? not good.

I laso think they experiment to much but w/e at least they try.

Futuro 06-24-2005 01:28 PM

can someone send jakes guitar track to me using YSI .....my browser sucks whenever i click save as MP3 it opens up qucktime.

:EDIT: HELLO!!!!!!!! NOBODY IS HELPING ME I HAVE 30 MINUETS FROM THIS EDIT TO RECORD TO DAY

BlindWriting 06-24-2005 02:06 PM

I'm a huge TMV fan, and Frances is one of my favorite albums ever.
They did cancel some shows because Omar Rodriguez-Lopez got really sick, or somethng.

What the fuck? How could you possible sell out, yet experiment too much?

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:16 PM
What the fuck? How could you possible sell out, yet experiment too much?
well they sold out with the widon IMO, that song has been played to death on radio stations here and at the same time they experimented to much. Sounds crazy but hey they pulled it off!\

The widow is as cheesy as hell.

denboy 06-24-2005 02:18 PM

I really don't think there's too much difference between the Widow and Televators (the single for the first album)

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:20 PM

Televators is 6 minutes and 20 seconds long, yet the widow clocks in at just below 3 and a half minutes, thats just an average pop song with a fairly catchy chorus or w/e.

denboy 06-24-2005 02:21 PM

What version of the widow are you talking about? the radio version of televators wasn't longer than 4 minutes

Doomed To Crumble 06-24-2005 02:27 PM

i have no idea on how to work audacity

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:27 PM

dunno, they one I downloaded. . .

denboy 06-24-2005 02:32 PM

The real version of the widow is longer.. (I know because I almost fell asleep after the first 6 min listening to it)

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:36 PM

a well then am wrong.

Still when i listen to televetors, I think is ubber boring, then widow I dunno, hell lot catchier but w/e

denboy 06-24-2005 02:39 PM

I find them both extremely boring, and am very confused why they were chosen for singles.. But I hardly think you could call them selling out

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:42 PM

I still think they did, theyd never anything so catchy IMO plus its no were as intense as their past stuff but w/e w/e w/e w/e

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-24-2005 02:49 PM

I don't really agree with that interpretation of Lateralus, but you may very well be right, I don't know, to me that song is not very easy to understand. What's everyones opinion on what Parabol/Parabola is about? Honestly, and I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but I think the song is about sex. I don't mean that in an immature way. As a matter of fact, I think Maynard wrote about the topic in a very adult and mature way. I may very well be wrong, but just think about that when you read the lyrics. Here:

Parabol

So familiar and overwhelmingly warm
This one, this form I hold now.
Embracing you, this reality here,
This one, this form I hold now, so
Wide eyed and hopeful.
Wide eyed and hopefully wild.

We barely remember what came before this precious moment,
Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in
This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

Parabola

We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion.

Alive

This holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion...
Of what it means to be alive

Swirling round with this familiar parable.
Spinning, weaving round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this
chance to be alive and breathing
chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal.
all this pain is an illusion.

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:56 PM

I think its about something eternal. I think it reaffirms the belief that their is an eternal life after this one.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 03:23 PM

I bought FTM for 8 bucks at Borders when it first came out thinking "Oh, a good new prog album."

I was extremely dissapointed. My definition of progressive music does not include 5 minute mindless guitar wanking or ambience.

Kage- Glad you liked it. :)
i have no idea on how to work audacity
What are you having troubles with? I might be able to help you, since I'm the one that told you to get it in the first place. :p

Moses 06-24-2005 08:14 PM

Ok, I have a one take vocal thing and it's only the first verse but it's all for your criticism . I'm going to ask not to critique my pitch because I could tell I was sharp from the beginning.

/is downloading.

Edit: Acutually its not that bad. Its kinda noticeable that your a bit young, but its still really good. I like it. :thumb:
