It's a great album, some tracks are poor but the good tracks really make up for it.

Chu 09-15-2006 01:47 AM

Honestly, what's a poor track on TSHF?

Bazarov 09-15-2006 02:24 AM

The Scorpion... that other song where Dave goes.."you didn't make metal, buddy, metal made you."

Jev 09-15-2006 02:32 AM

The Scorpion's probably my least favourite on the album but I wouldn't call it a poor track.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-15-2006 02:33 AM

Kick The Chair is the best off TSHF.

Bazarov 09-15-2006 02:41 AM

Pretty much the only song I like on it.

Chu 09-15-2006 02:46 AM
The Scorpion... that other song where Dave goes.."you didn't make metal, buddy, metal made you."
I love both those songs :(

The Scorpion's one of my favourite's from TSHF....

SailAway 09-15-2006 05:31 AM

My kingdom, I'm sorry but that is just the one megadeth song I thought was horrid.

Yeah same here, I thought it was great.

My Kingdom was pretty gay on epic proportions.
I'm not big on RIP. My favorites are PSBWB, Youthanasia, SFSGSW, and KIMB.
Countdown to Extinction has really started to grow on me. I didn't really like it until recently.

Drone 09-16-2006 08:04 AM

The System has Failed is excellent for me. It's very consistent. The only thing I would change would be to take I Know Jack and Shadow of Deth as well as My Kingdom off the list. Then it would be perfect.

eug008 09-16-2006 08:07 AM

I Know Jack and Shadow of Deth were alright, not really songs tho...

Finally! Someone agrees with me. I've always loved that album, actually I find it to be their best. Some of the albums before it may have had slightly better instrumentals, but the differnce between the vocals in RIP and CTE is amazing. Dave got way better. No to mention the songs are better thought out too, while on other albums it was just constant shredding CTE had more thought put into it. Excellent stuff.

Well, without putting down your opinion (like CTE aswell), the tracks are just much more simplified and don't really have a certain kickass tone to them. The solo are still amazing, but the main riffs are pretty bland compared to pre-RIP, even I can learn to play most of those songs easily.

Ashes in Your Mouth completly rules though!!!!

Five Magics 09-16-2006 11:21 AM

Ashes in your mouth is the 1 song that could have EASILY been on RIP, and we wouldnt have known the difference

Ah, you make a valid point my good man, but you see there's more to songs then just how kickass they are. While the riffs may have been a little on the bland side compared to their previous works the song structure and overall song writing skills had improved. That combined with the immense improvement in the vocal department is why I prefer it.

eug008 09-17-2006 02:53 AM

Some videos I found from the latest Gigantour

Take No Prisoners

eug008 09-17-2006 06:46 AM

It does too \m/ I still can't believe Washinton's Next hasn't been posted yet...

SailAway 09-17-2006 07:49 AM

I want to hear WN for myself, so it will be a lot easier if its not posted anywhere haha. I also wanted to be surprised when I went to gigantour but I just had to look at the setlists.

I like to listen to CTE when I feel like I've had my fill of RIP type shredding.

CTE to me is more about the song structure than about 'well lets see how fast I can play today'. Dave is a really talented guitarist, and sometimes I feel that he allows his technical style of playing get in the way of the structure of his songs.

Besides as was aforementioned, just because a song is easy to play doesn't make it a bad song. Symphony of Destruction is one of my fav. songs to play for ppl because it has good lyrics, and is one of their most recognizable songs.

No one around me plays, or even knows of Megadeth (Well, I have done a fair bit of introducing, most people listen to TSHF, but nothing else), it's kinda cool I reckon, I can play awesome music, and when someone asks, I can say it's Megadeth \m/

Bazarov 09-19-2006 07:16 PM

Plenty of people I've talked to around my part of town have heard of megadeth but have the Metallica-is-better-than-Megadeth virus. I have no problem with people likeing Metallica more.. but when people say that Hammett is a BETTER guitarist than Mustaine or Friedman, it kind of bothers me. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that Mustaine & Friedman have more skill at guitar.

Chu 09-19-2006 07:29 PM

I would agree with that.

But as far as Lead goes, Mustaine even admits he only uses pentatonics, Hammett does the same (Without admitting it, or has he?) yet seems to cop a lot of **** for it

Apocalyptic Raids 09-19-2006 10:07 PM

As leads guitarists I don't think either are very special. Mustaine's strength has always been rhythm.

Hmm, most of my mates think Megadeth>Metallica by far. I would say that neither Mustaine or Hammet would be that good of a lead guitarist but Mustaine hasn't really ever been the Lead guitarist for Megadeth where as Hammet is so that may be why he cops a lot of shit. Another thing about Hammet is that he usually uses the same scale run in almost every solo .

Jev 09-20-2006 02:48 AM

Hammett has to use wah to cover his playing. Dave doesn't.

Chu 09-20-2006 04:16 AM

Heh, I'm not really that knowledgable of things guitar, I just play a guitar...

But isn't that the pentatonic scale? I don't really know what a run is... I don't really know any theory either, so I'm probably wrong, but I would definately want to know this, so if you could explain? :)

Edit:
Hammett has to use wah to cover his playing. Dave doesn't.
Yeah.. Dave can play music too :p

Jev 09-20-2006 04:19 AM

Yeah Kirk uses the Em pentatonic all the time.

Chu 09-20-2006 04:22 AM

And Dave just uses the pentatonic in different keys?

Jev 09-20-2006 04:25 AM

Dave probably uses the Em pentatonic a lot too, I've never really looked.
But his solos have much more variety and are more interesting.

pate 09-20-2006 08:35 AM

Dave uses Pentatonics in interesting, different ways instead of the same way every time.

Chu 09-21-2006 12:42 AM

But Hammett's first solo in Fade To Black is quite a bit different to the second, or even third solo.

E sharp 09-21-2006 12:58 AM

What type of shoes does Mustaine wear in the Holy Wars clip?
i want to get a pair

Chu 09-21-2006 01:12 AM

I am an 80's metal fashion victim!

I still wear the white sneakers with the tight jeans, I ****en love it.
I often get mistaken for an emo because of the jeans, but that's cool.
go to this bands site and listen to it,

There's a myspace music finds thread somewhere you should probably post there, you'll get more people who check it out that way.

I'm listenning to the first song 'Wake The Dead' now, I'll tell you what I think when it's finished :thumb:

eg.
The Four Horsemen (4:10)
Blackened (5:03)
Harvester Of Sorrow (3:49) (btw I really hate this solo)
Dyers Eve (3:49)
Damage, Inc. (3:54)
Creeping Death (2:53)

I'm sure I could find it easily many more times.

btw I'm not saying all of his solos are bad, he has a few good moments. Daves solo's jsut seem more enjoyable but he was never the lead guitarist tho which probably is a good thing, imagine Hangar 18 without Marty

EDIT: hmm seems like the tab didn't come out that well, you get my point I guess.
