That song brings space to mind for most people...for me it's underwater though. Although the original imagery of the song was spacey instead of aquatic.

I remember the first time I heard it...the first part was kind of an underwater scene lighting up, things starting to move...then the jam part is just kind of an oceany green...then the crazy guitar-screaming part, which makes me think of a beach with seagulls now, sounded like monkeys to me and I thought of a jungle...now the ending part is kind of like a multicolored sunrise.

MBS 09-29-2005 07:57 PM

The "crazy guitar-screaming part" is actually David Gilmour trying to imitate a whale with his guitar. Just switch the cable inputs through a wah pedal and try it, it's pretty cool.

(Meaning you plug the input from the guitar into the output plug on the wah and the input cord leading into the amp)

The imagery in the first verse is good though.

i beleive that part of the song was actually subtitled "whales in labour"

I've never done shrooms or any drug except alcohol (and one cigar I guess) but if I did it would either be LSD or shroorms, and Echoes would definitely be part of the experience.

The 'whale' part sounded to me like monkeys at first, now it sounds like ocean birds.

I'm kinda hesitant to take shrooms. I've heard some crazy stuff about them like that they make your brain bleed or somethin. I don't know anything about them though, and that's probably just some BS some kid made up. Btw man, you might wanna try some other stuff before you just jump into takin LSD, that's some pretty crazy sh*t.

Brain bleed  That's obviously a lie. And why would trying other stuff before LSD make a difference?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-30-2005 01:33 PM

To get you used to tripping^

I've never done LSD though so I can't compare the two weither or not one's stronger than the other or anything. I would take acid in a second if someone were selling it. Brain bleed? That's just a myth in an attempt to stop people from doing it. Being on shrooms was some of my most enjoyable expirences of my life. Shrooms are AMAZING!!!!!

Getting oz (of bud) for 45$ today. :D
You have great taste in music. :thumb:
Why thank you.
Shrooms are AMAZING!!!!!
To me, the whole idea of tripping is pretty scary. I mean, couldn't anything happen to you. Could you think there was a pool in front of some large drop, and jumped into it and severly hurt yourself. And couldn't you think that nightmarish things were real, ext.

moaner 09-30-2005 02:17 PM

there are walys the stories about LSD. The guy who thought he was an orange and woke up with his skin flapping off. And the guy who, 6 months after a trip, realised he was jesus and walked into a boating pond, drowning himself in front of his wife and kid.

That's why you trip in a safe place, like in nature or a basement. If nightmares came into play, then that'd just be a bad trip, which are pretty rare.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 09-30-2005 04:29 PM

I've never really had a scary trip before. Just extremly depressing ones and that's just because I was in 105 degree weather. When you trip in that kind of heat it goes to your head. Plus flashbacks are EXTREMLY uncommon.

Why Meddle could be a concept album of sorts

When we listen to the first side of meddle, we are greeted witha smorgasbord of different styles, with precious little overlap. Folk, jazz, blues, hard rock, pop, its all there.

And what do all these genres have in common? Perhaps the most relevant thing would be the way that one or more of each of these genres was a great influence on each member of pink floyd, from rick's jazzy piano, the folky acoustic ballads roger and dave wrote, Mason's hard hitting drums and Gilmour's bluesy solos.

If we thought of these things as ingredients to the world's greatest cake, what would we find? the psuchadelic epic of "Echoes" might not be too far off- both in terms of content and the length of the song.

Wow, I never thought of it like Echoes summing up all the different styles of the previous songs. Thats a good theory moaner. Ill have to listen to it again now...for the first time in a half year.

I still dont get the deal with the 5 minute gap in Echoes that builds up to the final verse. I mean, prog rock - i know, and its a great lead into the final half of the song, but I dont see what it's signifying. All their other songs like that I sortta have figured out.
