not at all. i've known this piece for a long time but never really taken it seriously. not because of the piece just because of the period in my life in which i learnt it, i was learning shitloads of material but never performing. it is a beautiful piece and I don't think I've ever heard a performance of it that wasn't riddled with flaws, especially my own.
yea i think ive only heard the jon williams recording hes stale on the outside movements but the 2nd is awesome iirc heard a bunch of ppl play it live they struggle its hhard despite being so guitaristic
dunno what helicopter not tram means. you're right about string noise and i've seen you raise the issue before. it certainly isn't something that's been mentioned by any of my teachers and I don't really know how to practice it so I'll bring it up at my next lesson.
its pretty simple when ur shifting on the wound strings dont drag ur fingers lift em up its a bitmore complicated when u have a gliss or somethin like the beginning of that villa lobos study id recommend the carlevaro technique books if ur interested he was the 1st one that really bothered hes great
are you saying i shouldn't do this?
i meant like ur playin it like theres a rit there i like it played straight thru. the fermata is only on the last note. minor details but 2 much of this and u lose the big picture of the piece imo
yeah i guess i just find it hard with these fingerings, especially playing the G string with my m finger never sounds right to me, i think i need to devote some time to this aspect because it's a fundamental issue for me.
yea guiliani 120 studies are good for that if u dont fall asleep just work on bein able to bring out any finger play 4 note chords w/ out rolling and practice bringin out different notes
i do really like that tempo though, think it works really well. some of the lines i had just re-fingered because my old fingerings would've basically slowed me down no matter how well i pulled them off, so they didn't come out well, but i reckon i can do this a lot better now.
yea that tempo will be great when u get it goin i never really warmed to the 3rd for some reason |
You're both far too good at music for me :(
In other (less cultured) news, Stoke are 3-0 up against Newcastle as I've just discovered to my joy/utter disbelief. Mint. |
SBT post that screencap of the foetus dude playing.
|
The what now?
EDIT: Hahahaha fuck 4-0 in the 91st minute. |
That dude that Aria loved, you screencapped some pic of him playing acoustic guitar with a foetus face and it used to piss him off royally when you posted it.
|
Tommy Emanuel with the gap in his teeth?
|
No. It was some classical playing dude. you screencapped a vid of it that Aria posted trying to tell everyone it was real music and everyone else was an idiot.
|
pavel steidl probs
he is a legend also ben i got alex tsiboulski's aus album, nice stuff |
No. It was some classical playing dude. you screencapped a vid of it that Aria posted trying to tell everyone it was real music and everyone else was an idiot.
Photobucket says no. |
100% sure it was you.
|
Sometimes I forget that my music really was inspired by mx. Those posts bring me back. I've dedicated years of my life to this. I was talking to Amit about this a few weeks ago on facebook, you guys should add him.
One thing about that piece was for a few moments I was totally calm like I haven't been for such a long time. It's because I know you and I can hear the guitarness it's lovely. I love hearing your musics. |
100% sure it was you.
Sorry dude, had a nose but can't find what you're on about :( Coming up to 7 years on this forum. In some ways I've learned a hell of a lot more than I would've without it, especially with my recordings, but fuck me I just cannot stop coming here, even if there is only like 6 people left. |
It's weird how the community utterly died. It used to almost impossible to keep up with this thread. I remember Mika and I arguing with the Shredder and it was so back and forth you just couldnt quote all the posts or keep up.
And people used to be obsessed with single songs, like December Flower was a big fad, then Arpeggios from Hell, then the Sea of Lies solo. Now threads sit dormant for days on end. |
There's just no reason for new users to come here. The tabs are gone, the reviews site has its own forum...
|
It's slower but the best posters stick around because they like it.
|
*hi5*
We need a resurgence of old members to get it back to '06 standards. |

Don't think I'd be anywhere near as good at any aspect of guitar playing/recording had I not come here. |
tbh it was this place that really got me to broaden my horizons insofar as musical taste is concerned. I remember not liking screaming vocals at all when I first came here, bands like BTBAM were just noise to me. Now? I prefer (decent) screaming vocals over clean vocals half the time. But it's not just the heavier side of things; exposure to all the heavier music and widdly music made me realise how important other aspects of playing are aswell, otherwise you just end up as Trivium.
Bands that I got into because of this site: BTBAM Dream theater Periphery (although it was just bulb back then) Deftones Devin/Strapping Dredg Explosions in the Sky Meshuggah nevermore Opeth Porcupine Tree (from a forced listening thread when I first joined) Textures Then all the widdly widdly guys like Gilbert, Petrucci, Govan, Vai, etc. And that's just the ones I directly listened to because of this site. |

Deftones
I love their latest album |

getit?
*You're.
I love their latest album
Yeah it's fucking immense. I want that 7 string tone so bad. |
Seen him playing live with some Green amp, sounds like crap though. It's meant to have a sludgy stoner metal sound
|
and yet none of you dickwads got into classical
for shame also jordan that was a really nice compliment, thank you |
I did to some extent, I just only got into the really famour pieces and the stuff on the classical chillout albums I acquired by entirely legal means. Got any recommendations for accessible classical stuff to get me started? I've got some spare time on my hands now and I'm getting into new music again.
It wasn't just metal I really got into, it's just that it's the genre that I got into because of this site. One of the best albums I've ever heard was recommended to me by a friend, Brand New's The Devil and God... That's an incredible album. Also Mute Math, Arcade Fire, We Are Scientists, Thrice, Temper Trap, Foals, Gaslight Anthem, etc. I know not all of them are new but I'm late to the scene I spose. |
I got into the classical, but I'm hardly an active member.
|
Tbh, MX sorta calmed me down a little - was proper into death metal when I joined, got into DT and PT because of here, but other than that it hasn't really influenced what I listen to much. I guess it's mainly given me motivation to discover things for myself, like recording and mixing and shit, with decent advice to help me along.
|
I discovered that I loved chilled out music by myself. I really got into Radiohead a couple of years ago and I've got like 3 youtube playlists and 5 iPod playlists of varying degrees of chilled-ness, ranging from depressing shit like adagio for strings to sort of melancholic rock like Brand New and Snow Patrol. At the moment though, Gojira are getting me through some tough times.

Reuben needs to reunite. Racecar is probably one of my favourite albums ever
Reuben needs to reunite. Racecar is probably one of my favourite albums ever
Thanks to you SBT! :D
You sir, are very much welcome. I would've given anything to see them live. Personally I think the third album has the best songs but isn't the overall strongest; that would be the first album. Standout tracks, in order of amazing: Suffocation of the Soul Dusk Cities on Fire Some Mothers Do Have 'em Freddy Kreuger Let's Stop Hanging Out Blamethrower Moving to Blackwater OH GOD I CAN'T STOP LISTING REUBEN SONGS THEY'RE ALL AWESOME
the production and drumming of what i've heard from reuben is awesome
The third album's production is, simply put, perfect imo. The drum solo bit at the end of Suffocation of the Soul, during the heavy part, is incredible, and the production of that part is HUEG. In fact, I'm going to listen to it now, and so shall you all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVKTGf1uC6c Good god that's a good song. Easily, easily in my top 10 songs ever. I'm having a massive Reuben-gasm right now. I get all excited when people have heard of reuben, it's like, finally, someone else knows how awesome they are! I had a Reuben mix CD for my car that I played so much my bassist didn't have a choice whther to like them or not. Also, ultimate driving song for scaring chavs is Some Mothers Do Have 'Em. |
incubus meets oceansize
|
But better*.
*despite the fact that I've never heard Oceansize |
you'd like 'an homage to a shame'
|
Oh god insta-like.
How have these guys gone under my radar? This is the stuff I write in my head. I'm so learningCOUGHstealingCOUGH some of this. Good god that song was awesome. |
some gratifying alt melodies in that Oceansize.
|

I've been on these Belgian hipsters for a while now.....kinda feels like emotional gauze |
Oh for fuck's sake Oceansize split up last month. How the hell do I always end up missing awesome bands by the smallest margins? I missed Reuben by like 2 months.
|
The likelihood of them getting back together seems pretty weak too. Jim is doing illustrating and seems pretty contempt with it
