I've got a question though. He listed Paul Reed Smith as playing with Cradle of Filth. Is the guitarist in Cradle of Filth THE Paul Reed Smith, or another Paul Reed Smith that I don't know about.

The one that I do know about makes guitars.
He's a little foolish. Cradle's guitarist is Paul Allander, who happens to play a PRS. He got the names mixed up apparently.

Cain 01-06-2006 11:00 PM

Wow. I just finished watching American History X.

It's been a long time since I've seen a movie so depressing and upsetting. The image of that faction of American culture is terrifying, the moment of redemption powerful, and yet it all gets thrown back into doubt at the end.

For those who've seen it, how frustrated did the ending make you? I wasn't sure how it would influence the subsequent course of events...it seems like it would make things more heated. You end the movie wanting to believe that the surrender of hatred would expand to the rest of that gang, but I feel like that's highly unlikely.

I suppose the message is, yeah, hate IS too much baggage, but Christ. What a way to hammer that point home. Very good, very powerful. And disturbing.

EDIT: It's also intriguing to see actors whose careers I thought had dead-ended a long time ago perform such harrowing roles here: Avery Brooks was on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, of all things...here, he plays Sweeney. The kid from Terminator 2, who I hadn't seen since until now has a co-starring role. And the dad from "Boy Meets World," the dad who in this movie tutors Edward Norton in racism? Jeez.

Steerpike 01-06-2006 11:08 PM

Heh. It's kind of funny how irony works. Everytime an MXer talks about some serious book they read or movie they saw, I just did something on the other end of the spectrum.

In this particular case, Cain watches American History X, and I just got to see Corpse Bride earlier this evening. You'd think being the artsy prick that I am, I'd be comparing Kurasawa films. :p

Eh, it's late, and I'm pretty much just monologuing before the sleeping pills kick in.

Jom 01-06-2006 11:51 PM

I just wrote another TSO review. Even if you are Christmas'd out, could you head on over and take a look and possibly give feedback, please? It was my first stab at an overall review, and I'm sure I struggled, so I'd appreciate any and all feedback:

Thanks :)

MBS 01-07-2006 12:13 AM

What's the best TSO album, anyone? I've got a lot of money left over from the holidays and I'd like to buy one.

Tyler 01-07-2006 12:16 AM

Ok. I'm reviewing Protest The Hero - Kezia for sputnik music, but it's filed under Power Metal. They're not power metal...Can anyone change it to "Metal"? I hear Jom is the guy to ask, and I see him kicking around here. I would PM him but I don't know how.

Jom 01-07-2006 12:16 AM

MBS, I can send you two of them, and you can pick between the two that I have?

And CocaineAndCrucifixes, I'll take care of that for you, sure.

EDIT: all done :-D

Thanks bro. How long should reviews be? I've really got a lot to cover on the album, so around how many words do you think I have to do this in without it being too long?

Sounds good to me.

Entirely up to the reviewer. Some people are concise, some people are long-winded. So long as you nail the review with information and unbiasness and clarity, you'll be good.

MBS: alright man, I'll zip the files right now.

MBS 01-07-2006 12:34 AM

I might do a review on Concert For George sometime this week. Long album/DVD.

I wish I had the time to do an album review. I'm always at work or school

PinkFreud 01-07-2006 12:48 AM

yeah. except its usually just that im too lazy. or i could play mortal kombat instead. maybe i'll try to do one soon.

Tyler 01-07-2006 12:50 AM

I'm only doing it because I feel it's my place. I've seen the band 27 times and have listened to the album more than any human should. I'm just finding it hard to balance the layers of metaphors and the sound of the music, I'm almost thinking of reviewing it twice for that reason; one for the enigma/story, one for the music.

gmoneyguy 01-07-2006 12:51 AM

If I were to review I would review on the musical content, and touch on the lyrical content.

I love people like him. /sarcasm ++

You seem to be a big Mortal Kombat fan.

Edit: Jom, can you send the albums to inevergiveyoumymoney (at) gmail.com?

I registered a new name because... I don't know why. I just know I registered a different address for this username, and I forgot it and the password, so that's my main email.

Im not a fan of either movie, I think the plots were horribly written.

I dont feel like digging for the song trading thread. Can anyone send me some Age of Silence?

MBS 01-07-2006 01:31 AM
I think the plots were horribly written.
Are you kidding? I mean, how can a movie based loosely off a videogame that basically all you do is fight and kill people have a bad plot? It's genius!
