Trial of tears... although the instrumental part in the middle is kinda boring. I love take away my pain and hollow years.

IbanezSamurai 04-17-2006 07:42 PM

Yeah, new millenium is one of my fav songs, I love the middle section, when John comes in with the clean channel and wah.
I love New Millennium, especially the Budokon version.
It was alright, I felt like it was bit rushed though.

Ps. couple weeks ago I've realized that YTSE JAM spelled backwards is Majesty, what do ya know... :p

RideTheSpiral 04-17-2006 07:43 PM

Trial of Tears is one of DT's best songs.

Lord Abortion 04-17-2006 07:44 PM

I love the wasteland bit the most.

RideTheSpiral 04-17-2006 08:07 PM

Quoted for truth.

zabbit82 04-17-2006 08:13 PM
does anybody else actualyl like new millennium? i know we have lord abortion constantly raving abt take away my pain but the rest of the album actually isn't that bad.

...i really like burning my soul also :upset:
New Millenium is a great song. I also like Trail of Tears quite a bit, and the rest of that album is pretty cool.

classicrockman 04-17-2006 08:56 PM

My faves off of 'Falling Into Infinity:'

1. Peruvian Skies
2. New Millenium
3. Hollow Years
4. Burning My Soul
5. Take Away My Pain

Post yours...

Mute Requiem 04-17-2006 09:00 PM

From FII:

Peruvian Skies
Lines in the Sand
Hell's Kitchen
Take Away My Pain
Trial of Tears

Not really in any particular order

That part gives me chills.

Interesting. I think Peruvian Skies is one of their best also.

ghettoeddo 04-17-2006 11:49 PM

peruvian skies is most definitely one of their best.
from FII:
peruvian skies
trial of tears (the opening is absolutely brilliant)
burning my soul
new millennium
anna lee/hell's kitchen

lines in the sand is the only DT song so far i cannot stand.
It was alright, I felt like it was bit rushed though.
they rush their songs live a lot cuz they have to fit it all within 3 hours. it bugs me as a musician of 10+ years, but it's gotta be done yea?

nowitzki 04-18-2006 01:11 AM

The demo versions of the FII songs are so much better than the album versions.

Rattlehead 04-18-2006 02:54 AM

i love dream theatre. Petrucci is a legend. LaBrie is a very talented vocalist i think, but it gets to me sometimes. the cheesiness. some of the vocals i really like, but the first verse of "As I Am" gets to me. the first vocals on Endless Sacrifice are similar, but i like them. i like it's chorus vocals.

This Dying Soul vocals > As I Am and similar vocals.

i only know Train of Thought enough to give my opinion on it, but i have six degrees and octav. aswell.

what else should i get?

Captain Quentin 04-18-2006 04:37 AM

try scenes from a memory or images and words, both outstanding albums
on second thought, get them all :p

Clunge 04-18-2006 05:55 AM

It struck me a few days ago why I like DT.

They're sooo very over-the-top and theatrical in their style of music. It borders on being really quite cheesy which makes me like it even more :D.

Lord Abortion 04-18-2006 06:08 AM

I forgot the greatness that is Anna Lee!

Right, can you guys help me here?
When, on the LSFNY commentary, they talk about the "'96 metropolis" what exactly is that to do with?

Is it what was going to happen when The record company buggered them about and made them release FII instead of what would become SFAM later on?

cheers man, ill get those two.:thumb:

Josh 04-18-2006 06:33 AM

I&W was the first album i heard by Dream Theater, it's still my favourite of the albums of theirs i have copies of :)

Rattlehead 04-18-2006 07:32 AM

cool. people tell me 6degrees is best. it is for me, but i only have that and ToT and Octa. ToT was my first, i like it alot. the As I Am solo is truly insane, probably one one my faves. Octavarium i like, not so much though. Never Enough is cool. the riffs are great. Octavarium (song) is great, really chilled.

i love how all their songs are so long. they should do a few concept albums, it seems their style.

It was the original Metropolis PtII, they came up with a few ideas and I think started writing a few tracks years before the album was released. It wasn't supposed to be released in the place of FII, they wrote all of FII while they were switching management and record companies as their next album, they only started working on SFAM properly once Jordan joined.

Lord Abortion 04-18-2006 09:10 AM

Ah, I see, thankyou

Jev 04-18-2006 10:42 AM

I always assumed it was like a tour thing where they had been jamming on the road and had came up with a little Metropolis II.

I think the initial idea was to have it as a track on FII (which would have been a double album). FII could have been so much better than it turned out.

Jev 04-18-2006 11:35 AM

Don't say that around Ollie!

Lord Abortion 04-18-2006 11:45 AM

Well, I agree...I really like FII, but to have it as a double album, with Metropolis as possibly an ACOS style lengthy single track would have been very interesting.

Jev 04-18-2006 12:03 PM

But then there would've been no SFAM.
I would've wanted that much more.

Lord Abortion 04-18-2006 12:05 PM

Interesting, not better:p

Rattlehead 04-18-2006 01:10 PM

omg who the hell recomended that i got images and words?!?! it is one big rolling ball of cheese. urgh!

ToT FTW.

Images and Words is one of their best. Personally, I don't like ToT at all. Images and Words will grow on you.
