the only floyd album i listen to regularly is animals...the other are too mellow and laid back for most of my day. hard to appreciate when theirs backround noise all over the place...animals is much more rockish, so its better for that.
I really only listen to dsotm and wywh when practicing with the guitar...the others i may just play when on the computer...usually random albums though. I The last time i listened to meddle was when i read that in the song One of these days, at the actual part they say one of these days im going to cut you into little pieces, hes also saying something else, but it was hard to hear without panning it. Im sure its already been discussed before though. |
Oh man. I'm so high right now, and Time is like totally orgasmic at the moment.

EDIT:
The spoken words are different, depending on what speaker you are listening to. On one speaker: "One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces." On the other speaker: "One of these days, I'm going to dance with the evil beast." - Bill, southeastern part of, FL
:amaze: *tries* Oh, and apparently there are some audio samplings of the show "Dr. Who" in the midsection  EDIT #2: Oh. my. God. It's true! That is definitely "dance with the evil beast". Wow. When I heard it, time just sort of seemed to freeze for a second... and then that jam kicks in... Holy crap, that was one of the craziest feelings of my life... Oh, and I guess all those freaky sounding like alien-ship noises during the "reverb" part were the samplings. Wow, I appreciate that song so much more now... |

I felt left out when you left Soulseek to get baked... Oh what I wouldn't do for a J right now... Try listening to Any Colour You Like. |
Wow this site (songfacts.com) is awesome. I'm looking at 'Echoes' right now, listen to some of this stuff.
In an interview with Rolling Stone Roger Waters said he was attempting to describe "the potential that human beings have for recognizing each other's humanity and responding to it, with empathy rather than antipathy."

Originally called "Return To The Sun Of Nothing."

A year or two after the release of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Pink Floyd was working on Meddle. The ending part of the movie is 23 minutes long and the song echoes is also 23 minutes long. Play the song while watching the end sequence of the movie and enjoy.
Wow. I love this site. |
Man. I need to listen to Meddle again now. I haven't listened to it in too long.
|

You guys need to listen to One of Thse Days otu of one speaker too, make sure I'm not just crazy...
I'm having a lot of fun on this songfacts site... you guy seriously should check it out. One of the coolest things is that a lot of people that make comments are from NC too for some reason... kinda weird but cool :) |
Whoa...I heard it too. I think it was just one of those things where "you'll hear what you want to hear". But I'll try it again.

Ive mentioned it sometime before, but nobody gave a **** (postcount --). Glad to know you guys are liking it though. Awsome for random knowledge for pwning your friends in music trivium. On the bottome of the page to i believe you can go to an artistfacts site thats the same thing, but for bands/artists. Also some pretty cool stuff there. |
I just listened to One of These Days, and it is indeed true. Crazy stuff.
I'm listening to AHM right now. I really want to convince my school to perform it. |

This site is gay, come to this site! Signed, SONGFACTS>>>>>>>>>>>R  I wonder if anyone gets that reference besides me... Anyway, I'll check that artistfacts thing out... NP: Echoes (currently the "whales in labor" part :thumb: ) |
That One of These Days thing is awesome.

Yesterday I started drawing a sketch of what Echoes looks like. It's gonna be hard to do, but I have an idea of how I'll go about drawing it. When I finish, I'll post it up here.
|
Does anyone know if the tribute band Think Floyd are any good? I'm going to see them in Hastings in a couple of weeks, just wanted to know if they are any good.

I want to start drawing a picture of Pink Floyd song titles, like the Grateful Dead posters. I have to think it out first though. |

Holy crap, I can't believe nobody noticed. Wow, that site really is awesome. I had know idea Hats off to (Roy) Harper was about the guest vocalist on Have a Cigar. Edit: So, I was thinking, I read on the songfacts sight that Echoes is about recognizing humanity is someone, and responding with empathy, and I started thinking about the whole Meddle is a concept album thing. So One of These Days is about hating someone ("One of These Days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces") so we start with a character who hates people. I dunno how A Pillow of Winds fits in, but then theres Fearless (which I always thought was about fearlessly trying new things.) So here we see the character starting to change (climbing the steep hill.) Once more, I dunno how San Tropez or Seamus fit in, but then in Echoes we see the character completely changed, recognizing humanity. Just a thought. I also have a theory about how Wish You Were Here is a story, not just a concept album about Syd. |

The first side is just a collection of songs. WYWH and The Wall and Animals are definitely concepts though, and DSOTM is debatable. |

Artistfacts.com stuff (I know this is sort of advertising but this stuff is great)
Gilmour has an extensive collection of classic guitars, including the Fender Stratocaster with the first serial number.

They were the first band to use a quadraphonic sound system at their concerts. Using 4 different channels of audio, it was an early version of surround sound.

In an attempt to keep ticket prices low, they once appeared in a French soft-drink commercial. This went against their anti-commercialism philosophy and was a horrible experience. They haven't done anything like that since.

Their famous light shows started off very low-tech. In the early days, they used slide projectors and colored condoms stretched over lights.
You have to love that last one  |
