Hell no. Considering Trinity Roots have no broken up and that the Black Seeds, Phoenix Foundation, Fat Freeddy's Drop and basically anything Barnaby Weird touches are all brilliant ( and from Welly) I'm going to have to POOP on your statement Liberi my man.

Liberi Fatali 08-30-2005 10:59 PM

Never heard of this Barnaby Weird. The Phoenix Foundation are indeed another great band from Wellington, as are Fad Freddy's Drop. I have never really found much to be interested in with The Black Seeds.

It just seems to me as though Wellington lacks in other areas of the musical world, where other parts of New Zealand thrive. It does however have a great Jazz scene, which I don't really hear much of thanks to the r18 limit to most gigs.

Tangy zizzle 08-30-2005 11:03 PM

Sorry, his name's Weir not Weird. He's the dude from The Black Seeds and the main guy behind Fly My Pretties. He also does a solo side-project which I forget.

Auckland still has the best bands, but Welington has the heart and soul. Especially Trinity Roots. Man, they were easily the best NZ band I've ever seen and one of the most passionate, soulful, intense and warm shows I've seen from anyone.

I'll miss them so.
It was a hip hop kind of day, especially considering I met Biz Markie.
Ha, cool. Where'd you meet him?

I woke up to the Zombies today, played a couple random CDs in the car. Etc.

Ah, sounds vaguely familiar.

Yeah it is a real shame that they broke up, I only wish I knew about them before they had their last concert. Would have been wonderful to see them live for the last time ever.

Well it's true, it's a 3/5 and a 3.5/5 on a good day. I've never really seen what was so great about the album other than it's one where you listen to it once every couple of months and then it's back in the CD case.

Scarface - The Diary
GBV - Half Smiles Of The Decomposed
That's the album that I wanted to hear more, but it's taking forever to download. I'm listening to Evig Pint right now and really enjoying it, though. I'm going to have to buy an album. It's going to be difficult to track down, though.

I'm liking Sun Kil Moon better so far, but the RHP album seems more difficult and probably needs more time. Sun Kil Moon hit me right away, and this feels like a grower.
It's a gorgeous, melancholy record. One I'd consider to evoke the strongest emotional pull from me. My favorite Painters record. Definitely let it grow, it's amazing.

Do you write prose asymm?

pixiesfanyo 08-31-2005 06:03 PM

The new Coheed is pretty good.

Tangy zizzle 08-31-2005 06:05 PM

Is it just like the older stuff though?

pixiesfanyo 08-31-2005 06:10 PM

^ They've lost alot of the pop-punk stuff. It's more like...'80s metal done right I guess.

Reminds me of a less gay Rush.

Tangy zizzle 08-31-2005 06:14 PM

Cool.

Jamming to The Crowing is a guilty pleasure of mine.

asdf 08-31-2005 06:28 PM

A friend of mine that likes primus wants me to get her into some of The Residents music, so I burned her duckstab, seeing as all the residents songs that primus covered are on that album. I listened to most of the album before burning it, and realized how much I loved it. I had forgotten all about it.

Then I got a song from the commercial album stuck in my head, so I had to go listen to it. I'm playing it on vinyl right now, and I still love it like I did a few years ago. Truely a great album.

I'll probably listen to intermission, mark of the mole, tunes of two cities, and third reich n roll within the next few days. Good stuff.

asymm 08-31-2005 07:26 PM
Do you write prose asymm?
Nope, I don't. I've written a couple of album reviews, but that's about the extent of my literary side.

Daniel! 08-31-2005 09:01 PM

I'm really digging this Michael Franti and Spearhead bootleg I just downloaded. It is quite tasty.
