I said straight edge hardcore is gay not the concept itself, im straight edge but i dont carve gay **** into my body and think im a tough ****...but thats just my view.
Yeah, like fatbandit said, it's only "radical edgers" that give it a bad name.

And yeah, I saw your post, fatbandit, and they're form Washington, D.C. :thumb:
Bah, I hate jumping into conversations. Straight edge has a music scence? What kind of bands would those be?
 Are you kidding? Comeback Kid, Bane, etc. Most hardcore bands are straight edge (though not all). :p

Blah, enough hardcore talk, who here likes New Order?

risbo 03-02-2005 03:50 PM

I feel like I've been living in a hole for the past few years, I've never even heard of those bands or that music scene at all. Where I live there are no over the top straight edgers. Just normal straight edge.
123456789101112131415161718192021222324252627282930!

Couldn't agree more, i'm British and i know no end of people who hate Bush just because it's "popular" to do so, and are so blinded by their hatred they can't see the "facts" they try and put across are complete bull****. I personally blame bands like Green Day for brining songs like "American idiot" to the pop culture and inciting these kind of feelings in the young and easily impressionable...

hey all
I think as long as people aren't using a band to justify their ignorance I don't mind too much. I don't have a problem with hatred of Bush, as long as people can justify it without having to use a thesaurus or blatantly quoting a punk band or the like. Plus, the sort of person who hates Bush just because they think it's cool to do so are pretty easy to spot, and if they're easy to spot then they're easy to ignore :thumb:

^ It's much more than three chords and root notes. The music of most bands is actually pretty good (Unearth's members are all wicked good at their instruments and many others are). Trust me, it's much more than three chords.

It's "...jarring notes and chords, ear-splitting screams with powerful vocals, innovating time sigs, and enough emotion to make your head spin." That's off of my friend's myspace profile. He deleted it but I remembered it because it's so **** funny. :p

However, not all hardcore is generic. It's definitely not just powerchords and root notes. It's mainly all about the breakdown (that's where the best dancing is! :p  )

Excellent Indie/80's electro-pop band, i recommend :thumb: I get the impression i have distinctly different music taste to most of the bass forum...

fatbandit 03-02-2005 03:58 PM

How can you say most hardcore bands are straight edge? Lol. That's really not true. Check out Earth Crisis for vegan straight edge.

And I would say for a trend, its doing pretty well to survive 20 years or so. And I'm the only edge person I know. Kind of sucks. I'll live :thumb:

Excellent point. :p ...but not worthy of a double post..

Spaceman Spiff 03-02-2005 04:10 PM

I hate Bush.

I have reasons.

fatbandit 03-02-2005 04:11 PM

I am ignorant and don't really care enough about world affairs.

Heh, yeah sorry about that my computer has the slows :upset:

neal_672 03-02-2005 04:12 PM

I think a lot of people dislike Bush, it's just when it has no justification form like a 12 year old Green Day fan that it gets on my nerves...

mister_tee 03-02-2005 04:15 PM

It's ok to be ignorant if you don't care though :D If you care and are still ignorant then it's a bit harder to defend, in my book.

neal_672 03-02-2005 04:15 PM

So what's everybody up to?

fatbandit 03-02-2005 04:17 PM

I'm ignorant and don't care. So that makes me good.

Yey, DFIA, does that mean we can have a 'straight edge, but without the hardcore, and ignorant to the outside world' club?

bottlerocket 03-02-2005 04:17 PM

I'm off to finish calculus homework...later MX. Always a pleasure....

I used to be straight edge like that (I didn't care if other people smoked nor parade my edge around), but I hate my life now, so I've turned to weed and drinking to help me relax.

 Later!
