Mr Herb 06-23-2005 02:59 PM
Are you really, Kage? I thought you were a lot older. :-/

"Your maturity preceeds you."

Marshall, aren't you 16? I saw that on your toolshed prof, I think.

Kage again- at the pun. Was it intended?
Everytime I tell people my age, it seems they were under the impression that I was a lot older. Even in real life. It can actually be pretty useful.

And, yes, very much intended.

clearvision 06-23-2005 03:18 PM

I'm 16, though not for long.. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 03:23 PM

Herb- Don't triple post. Moses has a girlfriend, therefore, he is not gay. And as for Triad, "Static," a member of a fairly well known industrial band that I can't remember at the moment, helped with the wierd samples. Oh, and noone responds to most of the time because usually, there's not much to say.

"Then I want your email faith"

How can you elaborate on that?

Kage, same thing happens to me. I have an unusually deep voice, so people always think I'm older than I really am.

Moses- You know how sometimes when you put a face to someone that you know on the internet, you think of them somewhat differently? Well, I figured you looked something along those lines. Wierd, I know. :shrugagain:

Rothmans 06-23-2005 03:25 PM

You've probably seen this, but this is the only thing everyone's been talking about on the F.A.R.M.

For those of you who don't know, The FARM is a section on toolshed.down.net's forum abbreviated for something along the lines of Future Album Rumor Mill.

Ah suprise there is probablly a thousand people looking for a secret link somewhere on there.

And yes I have seen this before but forgot all about it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 03:41 PM

When I was on there a couple days ago, I linked this guy to http://www.teleincision.com/music . I did it as a total joke, then he posted back and was like 'omfg! It says it's forbidden, does that mean that there is something there, but we need a password for it!?!?!' He was totally freaking out.

Kage 06-23-2005 03:45 PM

Day 4 of lost Lateralus CD. Yearning is starting to kick in.

Rothmans 06-23-2005 03:45 PM

I can barely read tdn's forum one because it gets me really really excited about there next album and too many dickhead's.

Doomed To Crumble 06-23-2005 03:53 PM

i got the ipod, endless supply of tool:)

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 03:55 PM

Seriously! Me and Faith joined on the same day, and he private messaged me and said something about this guy Orph9988, and how he was a real dick to Faith. The next thread that I looked at, that guy, Orph was flaming my post. He was making fun of my badass ninja turtles avatar!! Anyways, there are some pretty major dicks there, but you gotta take the bad with the good, and Tool is the obvious good there. :p

Marshall- Do you still post there? I haven't been in a few days. :-/

Darkness 06-23-2005 04:11 PM
Day 4 of lost Lateralus CD. Yearning is starting to kick in.
Pfft... try 2 months.

And I thought you were older to. Like a lot older... maybe 20.

How old you guys think AJiG is? (can't remember his real name..)

BrokenMachine 06-23-2005 04:12 PM

Tool is one of the best "artsy" bands out there...definitly one of the best metal bands.

Darkness 06-23-2005 04:12 PM

^Correct.

Lateralias 06-23-2005 04:14 PM

Incorrect... partially... Tool aren't a metal band. They have some metal moments here and there (Undertow gets pretty heavy), but please don't classify them as a metal band.

Yeah all the regulars at Toolnavy (Toolshed forums) don't post that much anymore.. tis' sad

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 04:15 PM

Ben is somewhere between 19 or 21. I know he's older than me.

Broken Machine- Erm..Tool does not equal metal.

Lateralias- What's your name on tdn? Is it the same?

Darkness 06-23-2005 04:16 PM

For some reason, I think of Tool as metal... Maybe its Adam's metallic tone?

Their prog metal in my eyes... and always will be. Specially since the new cd is suppost to be heavier/more progressive songs.

Moses 06-23-2005 04:17 PM
are you gay? lol
Are you asking because you want me or do I come off that way?

Anyway if you read my info you'd know I have a girlfriend. :thumb:

Lateralias 06-23-2005 04:18 PM

Yeah it's Lateralias but I've only posted a few times.. I always seem to lurk in the discussion section hehe. I'm not a big poster on any forums really.. as you can see by my join date and post count obviously.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 04:20 PM

More progressive songs have nothing to do with them being metal. :p

They're probably the definition of 'fringe metal.' I'd say they lean closer to the side of rock, just because of the lathered soundscape that is created in each of their songs, even some of their heavier tunes. Lateralus is a good example of this. Sure, the chorus is pretty heavy, but the rest of the song is very mellow and atmospheric. Actually, I wouldn't say it's 'mellow.' I think soft tension is what I'm looking for.

Overall they sound like rock to me, yet the proggier stuff doesn't. Stuff like Lateralus is rock, but Third Eye, I think is metal. Triad is metal to me too.

Tool shouldn't be given one genre.. the band tends to forget boundaries and create songs like oh say "Disposition" then they have a heavy "Hooker With a youknowwhat" and then a progressive "Third Eye". It's hard to label Tool... well for me it is.

Actually cause I miss read something posted on you my space blog. Youre not gay. kool. :)

Darkness 06-23-2005 04:26 PM

Opiate and Undertow are definatly rock. Ænima, is probably rock to though they start to come close to metal. Lateralus in my opinion is metal. Sure it has a lot of soft parts, but its got some extremly heavy parts, like the heavy part (most of) the Patient, some of the Grudge, Ticks is probably metal but the heaviness is mainly from the vocals, the riffs aren't really heavy. Most of the heavy parts in Lateralus are metalish but it has lots of soft stuff.

I donno... their just metal to me.

Lateralus seems the least "metalish" to me... it's more experimental and has a mellow vibe in most songs.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 04:29 PM

The funny thing about what you're saying DoG is that Tool consider Opiate to be their only metal effort. :p They put their most thrashy stuff on Opiate, and so poeple thought that they were a metal band, but it turns out, they're much more.

I perceive Lateralus as their lightest album :-/

Lateralias- Good idea. I'm mainly going off what the actual members of Tool consider their selves. I read somewhere that Adam cringes when Tool is called metal. :p

Mr Herb 06-23-2005 04:30 PM

Tool is metal, prog metal.

I've always had the idea, not seeing much of the Undertow artwork that Lateralus was their darkest album. Kage agreed with me on this a while back.

Doomed To Crumble 06-23-2005 04:33 PM

Has anybody heard the new track that danny recorded with some other people called Ampersand?

Darkness 06-23-2005 04:35 PM

Opiate isn't that heavy. Aggressive yes, but I donno if its metal.

Heavy and classifying things under genre's is subjective. To each to his own.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-23-2005 04:36 PM

Their darkest!?!? I think that their albums decrease in darkness as they have been released. Undertow is almost depressive, Ænima is just angry, and I think that Lateralus is very uplifting. Meh, to each their own. Why do you think Lateralus is their darkest album?
