I just got a Weedeater album, called 16 tons. Anyone heard of this band? They are ****ing awesome.

Werny 07-03-2006 05:24 AM
Cool, my distro stocks Bathos.
The cover art is damn psychedelic.
Have you seen their website? Sweet trip there.

Lucky you, I can't get any death/doom (besides MDB) or funeral around here. Sob.

Werny 07-08-2006 05:51 AM

I got Cathedral's newie. Maybe it'll grow on me, but right now it's not very exciting at all. Corpsecycle and the riff that ends The Garden are the only bits of it that really do anything for me.

Activista anti-MTV 07-08-2006 11:39 PM

The wrath of Jondur is scaring me away...

3rdplanet 07-09-2006 06:25 AM

I recently got Turning It Down Since 2001 by Noxagt and it is forking awesome.

Activista anti-MTV 07-12-2006 07:38 PM

Hey how did two completely different genres get smushed together in one thread?

Doom Shmoom, I am gonna listen to orange Goblin and roll a cheap one.

rhcp pman 07-12-2006 07:53 PM

I've been listening to a hell of a lot of doom lately, and I'm finding that it's a great genre. My latest find is Starchild, a pretty good band.

I have a strong feeling that doom metal is going to become my favourite genre.

I've also been listening to:
Candlemass, Cathedral, Electric Wizard, Confessor, My Dying Bride, November's Doom, Paradise Lost, Reverend Bizarre, Orodruin, Spirit Caravan, Warning, Count Raven, Goatsnake, Katatonia and Lacrimas Profundere.

I'm really keen to listen to some Sunn O))) and Boris, so I would be grateful if someone could upload any of that (apart from the Earth split). Also, some Thergothon would be good if anyone has any. I do have some music for trade, and I have more than what is on the list.

Ya, stoner and doom are pretty distinct from each other. I can see how they would get lumped together by someone who didn't know the genres, but by a fan...

Activista anti-MTV 07-12-2006 11:08 PM

It's annoying the stoner rockers have either been intimidated or lost interest (:smoke: )

Apocalyptic Raids 07-12-2006 11:46 PM
If anyone's into really really heavy, intense and gruesome Doom, you should check out the new Wormphlegm release, I just got it and well, they certainly live up to the "Torture Doom" label, this makes me feel like I'm in a dungeon or some****.
hahah yeah, it's a pretty good album.

np: Pentagram - When The Screams Come

The Negation 07-13-2006 04:46 AM

You guys might like Gallhammer, theyre signed to Peaceville if i remember correctly.
Japanese, all girl doom metal.

Guitar101 07-13-2006 05:19 AM

KMK is awesome. Kotton Mouth Kings

Werny 07-13-2006 05:24 AM

Aren't Gallhammer crust, though? And yes it was Peaceville.

I found an epic doom band that I actually love. Lamented Souls! Simen Hestnaes may be a fool, but he's my favourite singer and Lamented Souls really shows why. Awesome riffs and atmosphere with everything doused in reverb!

The Negation 07-13-2006 05:28 AM

I thought they were predominantly doom...I could be wrong.

rhcp pman 07-14-2006 05:23 AM

Anyone like Starchild? I've been listening to their S/T, and it's quite spacey and doomy, but also bluesy. I think it's a pretty good effort.

I've been listening to Solstice lately as well.

AA-12 07-14-2006 05:30 AM

Skepticism - Aeothe Kaear = Best doom album i've heard in a long time. Amazing.

The Negation 07-14-2006 10:28 AM

So ive just heard the Moss/Wolfmangler split-Protected by the Ejaculation of Wolves [lovely] and Ive got to say this isnt half bad. If youre a fan of blackened doom, this albums cracking.

the2stranger 07-15-2006 08:57 AM

Werny (and other fuenral doom fans \m/:
Have you heard of Comatose Vigil?
It's pretty awesome stuff. very dark and brooding, the vocals are great.
they are or: low as **** or distorted and very eery.

good stuff.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-15-2006 09:41 AM

I've been listening to some Thergothon lately. It' sopretty good though I prefer Traditiopnal stuff.

sorry 've had a bit to drink. I'm trying to type proper though.

What time is it there?
It's 6:45 in the evening and I'm drinking my first beer of the evening, cheers :chug:

Thergothon is awesome, I like the extreme doom stuff better than the traditional.

np: Draconian -The Cry Of Silence. \m/

Apocalyptic Raids 07-15-2006 09:45 AM

It's about 2:45 am/

I just got home.

ATM 07-15-2006 09:49 AM

I just picked up a bunch of good albums. Got Electric Wizard's s/t, Earth - Earth2, and a Sleep album that I cant remember the name but it is ****ing awesome.

I want to hear some Spirit Caravan.

the2stranger 07-15-2006 09:54 AM

great buy Arrestthisman! :D
Sleep \m/

Apocalyptic Raids 07-15-2006 09:55 AM

speaking of sleep im should go to bed soon since is late here.

the2stranger 07-15-2006 09:56 AM

Sleep well my aussie mate!

Apocalyptic Raids 07-15-2006 09:57 AM

I will now because you said that Dutchie mate,.

ATM 07-15-2006 04:16 PM

So the Sleep album I got is called Volume 2, and its awesome. I need to hear more from them.

AA-12 07-15-2006 06:12 PM

Oh man, everyone needs to go check out Grivf. They are the best doom band i've ever heard. So dark and just sickening sounding it's not even funny.

dfcslings 07-15-2006 07:27 PM
Oh man, everyone needs to go check out Grivf. They are the best doom band i've ever heard. So dark and just sickening sounding it's not even funny.
are they like nortt?

anyone like acid king?

stoner doom with female vocals :)

rhcp pman 07-16-2006 12:38 AM

What I've been digging lately is Dolorian's 1999 album, When All the Laughter Has Gone. It's blackened doom and it's unbelievably good.

I'm sure someone here must have heard Starchild before... surely?

At the rate I'm going through doom metal, I will have heard every doom metal band in a couple of months :p. I'm at about 25 GB and growing.
I've been listening to some Thergothon lately. It' sopretty good though I prefer Traditiopnal stuff.

I've got about 4 out of 6 songs from Thergothon's one album - and I agree, it is rather good. I think it could do with some better production, but that's open to opinion.
I just picked up a bunch of good albums. Got Electric Wizard's s/t, Earth - Earth2, and a Sleep album that I cant remember the name but it is ****ing awesome.

Electric Wizard is some good stuff. For Spirit Caravan, get Jug Fulla Sun - it's a great album which I've been listening to a bit lately.

Werny 07-17-2006 05:05 AM
Skepticism - Aeothe Kaear = Best doom album i've heard in a long time. Amazing.
Of course man, they're the best doom band. I haven't got that though. I got Ethere the other day, really great atmosphere and absolutely horrifying rendition of The March and the Stream (I can see why people name it the most depressing song ever).

I love how with Skepticism you get the variation. There's the big, grandiose and powerful stuff done in the Stormcrowfleet era, the funeral march-like stuff they did in the Lead & Aether period (which should be banned, there's no happy moments in the music, some notes are painful) and the trippy, scary stuff done in the Farmakon era. I'm eager to see what they do now.

Name rings a bell, can't say I've heard them though. I need heaps more Funeral. Wormphlegm, Comatose Vigil, Catacombs, Monolithe... mmmm.

AA-12 07-17-2006 05:30 AM
are they like nortt?

I'm not sure. They are amazing though. The atmosphere is so intense.

rippa32 07-17-2006 05:54 AM

Ive only listened to a bit of Doom Metal through the odd downloaded track (mainly pentagram) I always knew I would like it because I am a huge Black Sabbath fan. And today I finally bought a Doom album, Turn To Stone by Pentagram, I havnt listened to it yet though. And even though I am not a big fan now I can see myself being one in the near future, does anybody have any recommendations for other similair bands?

AA-12 07-17-2006 05:55 AM

I suggest buying Electric Wizard - Dopethrone.

The Obsessed
Saint Vitus
Candlemass
Orodruin
Trouble
Reverend Bizarre

rippa32 07-17-2006 06:31 AM

Hey thanks for the recommendations, although I have a heard a bit of electric wizard and didn't like it much, also ive heard Grand Magus and I liked them would they be considered Doom?

Also whats the general attitude towards Pentagram in this forum? Not that it will change my opinion, I'm just curious.

ATM 07-17-2006 06:35 AM

I ended up getting Spirit Caravan - Elusive Truth.

Sweet album, and I've met Scott Weinrich :)

I love Day Of Reckoning.

rhcp pman 07-17-2006 12:30 PM

Haha, I played Thergothon's Stream from the Heavens album at 200% speed - it's kind of interesting actually :). And as a last note:

Listen to Dolorian people!

Grand Magus is indeed considered doom metal. You might want to try giving Electric Wizard another go - they took a bit of time to grow on me.

Orodruin is bloody great. I love Pierced by Cruel Winds - that section from the middle to the end is so good.

I haven't actually heard that album, but judging by Jug Fulla Sun, it should be pretty good.

Activista anti-MTV 07-17-2006 05:42 PM
Yeah, I found out about Kyuss because they jammed frequently in my area. Josh Homme went to my high school, and the CD "Welcome to Sy Valley" is in reference to an unincorporated land that is near where I live called (what do ya know) Sky Valley.
Really? How far apart did you guys graduate?
