Lovers Rock is my favorite Clash song. F00ls!

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 11:09 PM

yeah, lovers rock is kinda boring, but still kinda good too. i dont like The Street Parade and Stop the World.

CombatRock 03-04-2005 11:14 PM

does anyone own sandinista..i always wanted to get it but never have?

Forest_Fire 03-04-2005 11:17 PM

i dont have it... ive only heard negative things about it. except that it has a lot of tracks and they wanted the price to be cheap.

well, its a quarter past twelve. fuck im tired. see you tomorrow joe strummer thread

CombatRock 03-04-2005 11:28 PM

im getting off too..later yall..i will make sure to bring this thread up from the 2nd page again

IMONXTC 03-04-2005 11:39 PM

they have a whole clash tribute cd with the bosstones (rudie cant fail), rancid (cheat), and crappy bands like no doubt. go on interpunk.com and look for it, it should be there.

the list of songs the clash covered:

Police and Thieves (junior murvin)
Brand New Cadillac (vince taylor? not sure of the guys name)
wrong 'em boyo (i think the clash wrote and added the stagger lee part though)
revolution rock (willie williams)
armagiddeon times (willie williams)
pressure drop (toots and the maytals)
i fought the law (his name escapes me)
junco partner (101ers cover...does that count?)
jail guitar doors (another 101ers song)
look here (very bad song)
Police on my Back (i forget)
time is tight (booker t and the MGs)

"the clash: the return of the last gang in town" by marcus gray...excellent book on the band

i hope ive been helpful

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 07:49 AM

I think the Indigo Girls (some crappy lesbian band) bid a cover of Clampdown and it was horrible. And I don't own Sandinista, but I plan on getting it sometime.

IMONXTC 03-05-2005 10:00 AM

decent songs from sandanista:

junco partner
up in heaven (not only here)
somebody got murdered
charlie dont surf
police on my back
something about england
corner soul
let's go crazy
one more time
the call up

then theres 'magnificent seven' if ur into that stuff, personally im not

Forest_Fire 03-05-2005 10:06 AM

magnificient seven is amazing.

/is a bassist

CDR_Cool 03-05-2005 10:30 AM

has anyone seen the music video for Redemption Song? I watched it last night, and it was cool. the song was recorded a few weeks before he died, and the video was made posthumously. the video centers around some people painting a mural of joe and putting flowers and candles and stuff under it. I saw a glimpse of lars frederiksen and tim armstrong too.

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 12:49 PM

I've heard/ downloaded nearly all of Sandinista, and I like pretty much all of it.

The Magnificent Seven is amazing, it show how well Joe could write.

/is not a bassist, but stole my brother's bass to play Magnificent Seven

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 05:24 PM

I refuse to let this thread fall off of the first page.

Forest_Fire 03-05-2005 05:29 PM

ill help with that when i can. where has coma girl been? she wins n00b of the omnth and then leaves for a while?

WorryRocker921 03-05-2005 05:31 PM

I like songs like Magnificent Seven and Rock the Cashbah but I'd prefer to listen to the ealier stuff. The video for Rock the Cashbah is kinda funny too.

Redemption song is great, but I've never seen the video. Sounds interesting though.

I've got the Rulers version on a Trojan Boxset (It's called Wrong Embryo) and The Clash covered it pretty faithfully. They didn't add anything.

SantaDuJuan 03-05-2005 05:37 PM

Thats good, I only wish they could done that with Pressure Drop.

WorryRocker921 03-05-2005 05:38 PM

Oh Wow....I just watched the video on Launch...deffently pulled on the heartstrings and made me very emotional. wow....

These should all legally be Clash songs, because I think a lot of them are better than the original's, but that's just me talking.

Anyone hear that cover of Junco Partner on Give Em The Boot 4?

The Mescaleros did it live, it was great.

sketchyjoe 03-05-2005 05:41 PM

I prefer The Rulers version of Wrong Embryo but with the others The Clash did them better.

Forest_Fire 03-05-2005 05:43 PM

ive never heard the original Wrong em boyo

I've never heard that one.

D'amn, I need SLSK like whoa. :upset:

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 06:26 PM

Didn't the Clash even take the "start all over again" part from the original?

sketchyjoe 03-05-2005 06:33 PM

Yes.

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 06:36 PM

I remeber somebody posting that a few months ago, and I believe it was you.

sketchyjoe 03-05-2005 06:37 PM

Probably.

Glitterati 03-05-2005 07:44 PM

I just bought Combat Rock today. Good stuff.

SlappedByTheClash 03-05-2005 07:50 PM

Know Your Rights!

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 07:51 PM

All 3 of 'em

IMONXTC 03-05-2005 09:07 PM

i actually like the maytals "pressure drop" better. for those of you who play GTA it's in San Andreas. i think i just played out the clash version.

sketchyjoe 03-05-2005 09:08 PM

Toots & The Maytals kick arse.

Forest_Fire 03-05-2005 09:11 PM
Toots & The Maytals kick arse.
Anxious 03-05-2005 09:11 PM

your absolutely right. my b.

my girlfriend cried during "titanic" and i was like, "why? i dont get it". we watched the redemtion song video (i think its still on ON DEMAND, so you should definately watch it). anyways, i let a tear or two out and she made fun of me. fuck that shit.

Redemtion Song was sadder than than Titanic. Joe Strummer was a real, amazing, guy who died and leonoardo and his ugly face tried had some one night stand with a girl...and that's so sad they couldnt' be together.suuuure.

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 10:17 PM

WorryRocker921 03-05-2005 10:21 PM

I dunno, I just get more emotional hearing songs than watching romance movies. That's just me..

Uncharted territory... 4 digits :thumb:

But Titanic>Terry Chimes AKA Lamborghini Guy

Forest_Fire 03-05-2005 10:24 PM

i feel left out... make the 1000th post telling me about lamborghini guy

guns_of_brixton 03-05-2005 10:30 PM

The Lamboghini Guy was Terry Chimes (or Crimes), the Clash's original drummer. He wasn't into the music, and was quoted saying that he was in the band so he could make some money and buy a Lamborghini. He was an arse, to say the least.
