I don't think so. My heavier load of work has been for about 6 months tops, therefore I guess you don't know me. I could link you to some of my older stuff, If you wish.

And about the dedicated S&L mod, it's highly unlikely. People like Sloth, that have bee nhere for a while a nd have great taste/criticism and such, don't have over 2000 posts, which isn't arecquirement, really, but at least it kinda makes you think "wow, he posts a lot he must be smart lol".
On the other hand (still a bad hand) there isn't that much people/users traffic in this place. At most, on heavily loaded days, you can see 10-15 people in here, and most of the people just get in, sumbit 3 or 4 poems, then run and hide and expect some crits to go on. That's not right. Besides, many of the works in this part of the forum get 20-30 visits, but just 2-3 replies. What the hell...!

I think we need to tighten up that matter. We should, at least, give a little opinion on whatever we read, no matter if it says "lol 1 diddnt enderstnd 1t lol". It's much better to see a bad reply than no reply at all. And the poets are strange people, there's hardly ever someone who rates a lot of poems.
You couldn't be more wrong. The last thing we need is hundreds of one word posts, or simply ratings. If you don't have anything thorough and constructuve to say, don't say it at all. I spend, on average, 20 minutes, criticing Lyrics. I dedicate my whole afternoons to doing nothing but. I think people need to get better at criticing, cause, most critic simply to be able to post.

As for the last sentence, I would think I do nothing but critic. I have criticed about 20 works in the past four days and have not submited one.

Of course that in-depth reviews are great, it makes you realize errors and what not in your songwriting. I must agree that my view was radical, but the other users should actually take sometime and improve the community, because if you take a look at most of the thing posted, they have far more views than replies, and it makes you wonder what the hell am I doing wrong?".

As for that, I also take my time to review. Sometimes not as much in some posts, but I always reply when I read. We actually need a tighter community, considering this is one of the smallest around.

I agree with Cyber on this one. People who aren't going to crit more than a sentence's worth shouldn't crit at all. I crit an awful lot more than i write on here, but when i do submit a piece i usually get:

Suks :thumb:
Can u crit mine plz?

The regular posters on here should maybe work at explaining to people how to crit things every time that they post like this, and if they persist in doing so , reporting people who crit like this in the site forum. It will show the newer users how to act and they'll hopefully follow the example. But we'd need a lot of the regulars to keep this up for it to work. I'll be happy to do my part as i'm on MX every day. If we police things ourselves things might go a little smoother.

TojesDolan 08-27-2005 09:59 PM

That gave me an idea, EmergencyRoom.

And just because you kissed so much arse, I'll crit your stuff.

:)

morrissey 08-27-2005 10:36 PM

I keep considering coming back but I never do. I can't believe it's been 9 months already since I left.

Maybe someday, but every song I read on here isn't worth comment.

TojesDolan 08-28-2005 12:32 AM

Not even mines?

I hate that. Even when I want to write a long crit, I just can't. There's not enough there to comment on usually.

TojesDolan 08-28-2005 01:14 AM

Dammit, I never though about reserving some extra space in my thread... Now I ate up all m space, and I have some posts under already... Let's hope people actually give a**** about suggestions. :)

I'll edit my post for you, and we can continue it there, you posted my suggestions so I can delete them.

TojesDolan 08-28-2005 01:56 AM

OK, when more suggestions appear I'll pass them to you.

There are some scrapes of things I had to cut off, but must take place tomorrow, I don't feel like opening folders at this time.

Cybergasm 08-28-2005 02:29 PM

Does anyone think some sort of reward for very good and consistant criticers should be instantiated? I believe it might move people to make their critics better. I have no clue what it could be, but if you guys think its a good idea, why not leave suggestions and we can see what one of the mods think.

TojesDolan 08-28-2005 02:38 PM

You mean like rep?

It's plausible. But there could be a list or something. It should be payed soemhow, though.

silenceevolves 08-28-2005 03:17 PM

a thread listing/honoring the best critiquers?

LoserFriendly 08-28-2005 03:20 PM

I suppose it might encourage some people with low self-esteem to crit?

But other than that, it seems slightly patronising.

TojesDolan 08-28-2005 03:28 PM

Not to mention that it may end up in an elitist, ass kissing, circle jerking (a.k.a. the Pit) that will make new users feel they won't do it anymore. The Top 20 amateur list could be revived, nonetheless, and it could work, but we need YOUR cooperation to make this happen. I leave you for today (I guess I'll come back late-night) And see what resolutions you've accomplished. :)

 I don't understand all the bolded things you said, not sure why either.

As for the elitism, well, if we are fair and accepting then there won't be. However, if nothing improves and it is just the 10-15 users making the good critics then they deserve their ass kissed; and if we allow others in (but they don't enter cause they are bad criticers_ we won't be elitist just fair.

Anyone who sees this, can you make sure that you read this if you already haven't done so?

good morning S&Lers. :)

Nice to see something resembling a community re-forming in these parts... a decent group of guys in the community thread makes the relentless torrents of crappy nu-emo songs somewhat more bearable. :)

Mozz, I have noticed your song, and I'll crit it in a few days - just be sure to remind me!
Also, welcome to EmergencyRoom and LoserFriendly... (unless of course you've been here longer than I have, in which case forget I said anything... :upset: )

I used to be justgetmymail. I had a stupid argument with you way back when i got here. You've been here longer by a couple of months(i think).

It is great to have something resembling community in here. At least now some peope are taking heed and critting thoughroughly(sp?). Songwriting and lyrics forum and i can't spell :p

A_Perfect_Sonnet 08-30-2005 07:51 AM

Chugga chugga CHOO CHOO!

mshort813 08-30-2005 08:47 AM

How's college life? Where did you go? I think I might have known at one time, I forget now though. And what are you majoring?

morrissey 08-30-2005 09:55 AM

Aye I think I'll come back here. I'll only critique songs by people I know at first (elitism what what) and some of the new regulars who I've noticed deserve it.

Yee-haw.

I agree about the community reforming - remember how this thread would go days without a post for months at a time? Glad to see some "old" regulars back around, anyway.

Cybergasm 08-30-2005 03:15 PM

I feel bad for not posting here more, but school started again, which means not only more work but Criticing for the literary magazine. After more time again here I have started to make changes to it, like harsher critics, and less acceptance without re-writes.

EDIT: Da-am Zep. got stars. I've been stuck at 950 for close to a week now.

TojesDolan 08-31-2005 08:57 PM

I'm having a really, really bad writer's block at the moment. :(

I keep writing stuff that has no beginning, no end, and pretty much not a lot of ideas flowing. I have stuff like, this girl I really loved, but had some problems (because of an asshole that got in the middle of things and it all went to hell) and now I miss her a lot. And the worse thing is that I still have this friendship relationship with her, but I need her really bad. Problem is that...

Wait a second, that should go on L&R in the pit. Anyhow, I have it really bad. Ever since that song I last posted... I haven't written a lot of new stuff. Maybe I should go back to my history books and write about something in there.

*Waits 3 days for a response*

Congrats to Cyber for his stars. :)

I'd also like to celebrate the 1000th reply (post #1001) of the S&L community thread.

Time goes by so fast...

*weeps*

Anyhow, I'll go buy soem stuff for constructive design class, and I'll come back with some crits for you guys. Shalom!

Why is it that i continually find myself in here at such ungodly hours?

TojesDolan 09-01-2005 07:28 PM

I don't know, I should be working on my drawing for constructive design.

Instead I'm posting on the community thread.

So how's it going, ER, The pit is treating you bad? :p

I'm actually not getting a lot of pit flameage recently. I think it comes with a thousand posts or something :p

I was goin to crit every song on the first page tonight but i don't have the energy. I'll probably do them tomorrow. Also, ozzfest05 keeps posting songs that i'm critting with several hundred words and yet he posts two line replies to everyone's stuff. It's pissing me off to be honest. I tried to call him on it the other day and he just got bitchy and didn't listen. I'm waiting for Morrisey to give me a crit on my poem, afterwhich i'm going to work on the song for the lyrical challenge.

Out in the real world i'm bored as hell, hence the almost constant logged on status and lack of sleep. I've got nothing to do till university starts back(if i passed my exams and got back in) except work on some stuff for my band. We're just getting started again after kicking out a guitarist and bass player, so at the moment it's me and the drummer. We're gonna get a few songs written(or i am) and then we'll audition a few band members. The fun never stops

LOL

Yeah I know what you mean. Online, I'm not having that much reputation going on. The pit will always be the pit. Ikikdababy will still think my name is Dan. anyhow, I still try my best to keep up with things. Maybe I should do more controversial threads, more often.

Real life is not as sucky. This new girl entered the phys/math program, so I can see more ass, If you know what I mean. :naughty:
Anyhow, I'm building my life up after this strange relationship (which never was a relationship "per se" But it was crazy as whell, and painful as hell) with this girl, and I'm trying to meet some people. This weekend looks promising, as there's a lot of partying involved, and maybe a couple of fights in there. I'm having the worst time of my life drawing with stylographs and pencils, As this Constructive design class I'm having is tough as hell.

Yeah. Telling your life on the internet.

At the moment it's John Milton because i'm reading "Paradise Lost". Last week it was Jeffrey Deaver. I'm eclectic in my reading tastes and go through about three books a week on average.

TojesDolan 09-01-2005 10:34 PM

I'll post that tomorrow, I have to go get some books and stuff. But Currently Nietzche is the best I can think of.

Anyhow, pliz review my newest poem, I'll double crit for that, OK? :p

I'll review your older stuff tomorrow, Or I can owe you some crits. :D

My favourite writers are John Irving and John Steinbeck, if you're talking about novelists.

Favourite songwriters are Morrissey and Billy Bragg.
