Yea, and then get A Livingroom Hush next.
|
Allright, What We Must sounds like a safe bet.
|
What are they like?
|
They are very ecclectic.
From wiki: The band feature trumpets, trombone, electric guitar, bass, tuba, bass clarinets, Fender Rhodes, vibraphone and a rack of electronics, as well as strong melodies and rhythms. Talk Talk, Soft Machine, John Coltrane, Don Cherry, Aphex Twin, Stereolab, Squarepusher and Tortoise are frequently mentioned as sources of inspiration. |

Yeah. This list has me in anticipation. |
I would consider Slint post-rock. Not all of their songs are post-rock influenced but they definitely have some songs that have epic climaxes (Washer, Don, Aman.)
Well, they rock anyway, lolz. |
So my dad was watching some show on the greatest sports moments of 2006, and I hear a familiar melody being played in the background. It was Explosions in the Sky's "First Breath After Coma", and the rest of the show featured songs from The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place. It made my day...
|
I haven't properly been able to get into Jaga Jazzist, like a lot of post-rock artists I have on my computer.
|

Well, the band also did the good majority of music (I think) from the football movie "Friday Night Lights", so that doesn't surprise me much. |
So I finally downloaded Jaga Jazzist's What We Must. I have both let down and incredibly impressed by individual moments. Swedenborske Rom might be the best post rock song I've ever heard, but with that said, there are also some pretty lackluster parts.
Solid though, I'm sure it will grow on me. |
First two tracks are ace.
|
saxon shore is great.
|
I had to listen through the songs twice but I've become really attached to Jaga Jazzist! I'm impressed. Some of their songs remind me of a more advanced version of Hot Chip.
|
I didn't really like We Followed Tigers at first, but after listening to their songs at random and then listening to their two eps over and over, I have to say they're insanely good.
|
They're a 3 piece right?
|
We're Followed Tigers are probably my favourite post rock band
I also just realised how awesome Ef are |
We Followed Tigers are really good. I love the bass in every song.
|
Yo Txus can you up their eps? for DU maybe? My hard drive got re-formatted and i lost all of my music. Please? :)

Post Rock has seemingly surged in popularity since I started getting into it about a year and a half ago. I came across an Explosions in the Sky CD at Barnes and Noble yesterday. A year ago I traversed the lands and couldn't find that. Same with Godspeed, who are now in most stores I visit.
Also, a junky metal magazine's latest issue included a live concert review of Mouth of the Architect, who, when I heard them about two years ago were basically unknown. I scoured the internet and record stores and couldn't find any hints about them. Also, in the Most Anticipated of 2007 section in this magazine, albums by such bands as Jesu and a few other PR bands were mentioned. |
Yeah.
It seems like everyone can appreciate it. Metalheads, hardcore kids, indie kids, etc |
Yeah, it seems to have surged in popularity just int he last 6 months. Isis' opening slot tour with Tool probably helped build awareness.
Is anyone else really liking Jakob's album, Solace? I'd say after In the Absence of Truth that it's the best post-rock album of 2006. |

Sigur Ros ALWAYS helps me fall asleep. Amazing music.
I can't get into Godspeed or Explosions in the sky though, maybe i'll try a few more of their songs, I only have 3 or 4 each. |
I cant get into Godspeed either
|
Godspeed is kind of hit or miss, I think. They have absolutely amazing songs like East Hastings and Storm, but then there is a lot of filler that is annoying to sift through...
|
i love God is an astronaut, red sparowes, pelican, GY!BE, explosions in the sky, sigur ros
|
No ASMZ fans. :(
Although they're more ambient than Post-Rock; they're made up of Godspeed members. |
ASMZ are good :)
I prefer Do Make Say Think though |
I like ASMZ - He Has Left Us Alone... is quite a good album.

Great band, and Solace is a good album. I live in NZ (where Jakob comes from). What's more is, I should be seeing Jakob in less than a week. :) Then I'll be seeing them again when they support Isis in February. |
