Atom Heart Mother is amazing, althought personally, I find their most enthralling work to be Ummagumma. That album is a phenomenal piece of work. Animals is astonishing as well. I'm not a such a huge fan of DSOTM to be honest. I don't see why everyone regards it so highly. It's good and all but way overrated. My favourite Floyd album however, would have to be either Atom Heart Mother or Wish You Were Here. Amazing stuff if you ask me.

MidnightRider 01-08-2006 12:10 AM

I think Animals is great, it was my favorite for quite a while. Currently I've been listening to Meddle non-stop, I like the feel of it. It's very unique to Floyd's other work.

MBS 01-08-2006 12:36 AM

Meddle is my favorite Floyd album, followed closely by Wish You Were Here.

DeusExMachina 01-08-2006 10:07 AM

I've never been able to get into Animals. I love AHM though. Great stuff.

Yield 01-08-2006 11:45 AM

Meddle is way different from all the other albums, its very acoustic. To me, I think it's an album that my sisters could listen too and like it. All the other albums have that feel that is very unfriendly to non-floydheads.

classicrockman 01-08-2006 11:57 AM

Here's how I rank 'em:

1. The Wall
2. Wish You Were Here
3. Dark Side Of The Moon
4. Animals
5. Atom Heart Mother

I have all Pink Floyd albums...and those are my faves. I don't think Syd was a genius like everyone else does. The Wall is definately my favorite though. 'Tis one of the greatest concept albums of all time. There, I said it.

magicbus 01-08-2006 12:11 PM

I love Meddle. That's what I have to say about that. Meddle, WYWH, and DSOTM are my favorites.

1. Dark Side of the Moon
2. Wish You Were Here
3. Animals
4. The Wall

archaic.law@gmail.com Thanks sooo much. By the way to anyone, do you know what the mill or plant is on the cover of animals, that the pig flies over?

You mean the fabric? That's Battersea Power Station in London. Roger Waters always saw it when he drove to Brittania Row to record for Animals and developed the idea for the cover from there.
I might go see the power station when I'm in London in May (as well as some other places like Abbey Road). For you Londoners: Is it easy to get there starting from the center?

Cal_on_drums 01-08-2006 03:19 PM
I got into listening to classic rock from my dad as well. I remember asking if I could borrow The Wall (my first real introcuction to classic rock) and thinking "Whats with this guy screaming about meat and pudding?"
You're back! And to everyone that missed me while I was gone... that makes me feel good that someone actually missed me, but I don't really have a reason why I left... I went out for a drive, and I never went back.
[/The Boss]

But for real, I'm glad I'm back. I do kind of like that we have a new thread, it's good to see new fans in here like n00bguitarist and David Gilmour, as well as the old crowd like DeusExMachina, robo, and magicbus (and pigonthewing82! \m/ )

I was at my dad's this weekend down in Wilmington, and I was looking through his old vinyls, and I found his old vinyl of DSotM. I suddenly realized that that very record was what had gotten me into music in the beginning. I told this story in the old thread, but basically I was at his house one weekend. I was looking through his vinyls (hmm...), and I found DSotM. I had seen that cover and heard of the album, so I asked my dad about it, and we decided to listen to it on his turntable and surround speakers. Holy crap, that was awesome. I proceeded to buy a CD copy of it, my first CD ever, proceeding to OD on it for the next couple of weeks, until I bought The Wall before a class trip, listening to it a crapload over the trip, and buying WYWH at a mall on the trip, then buying Animals eventually, then Meddle, then PATGOD, as well as picking up other good bands from the Classic Rock thread like The Grateful Dead and the Beatles.

Sorry, just a little reminescinse there :)

Riva 01-08-2006 11:29 PM

1. WYWH
2. More
3. The Wall
4. Obscured By Clouds
5. Animals

I was listening to One Of My Turns just before, and the first part of the song made me so depressed. It's never had that much of an effect before, heh.

BigTrav415 01-08-2006 11:36 PM

You want one of the biggest emotional feelings listening to a Floyd song? Is There Anybody Out There, headphones, in bed, dark room. When that acoustic riff hits, with the waves and the violin in the background, man. Bliss.

Riva 01-09-2006 12:17 AM

Same applies for Wots Uh The Deal?

I have to say live version of SOYCD or Coming Back To Life(also live)

damn those solo's are great

standard! 01-09-2006 02:44 PM

Green Is The Colour just might be my favorite Floyd song, ever.

The Division Bell is a great place to find amazing music. The lyircs might not be the best, but musically, best album.. I would say. The solos are emotional, and long, and .. I mean it has Marooned on it. 'Nuff said.

I once fell asleep listening to that song and had a crazy nightmare. And I think the same could be said about Careful With That Axe, Eugene.

Wot's... Uh The Deal? = one of the most underrated songs by anyone ever
