I'm opossite to you in that Magicaltroll I don't like Electric Wizard that much in fact I don't like them at all but I love Candlemass I think Messiah Marcolin has one of the best voices I've ever heard...the problem is that the album you heard Epicus Doomicus Metallicus has another dude in the vox...you should give Nightfall or Ancient Dreams a try.
I'll check one of those albums out. I heard Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is their "masterpiece" though, so I thought I'd download it.
the only thing i cannot understand how humans can make such a powerful music. i am stunned sometimes when i listen to Anathema, and now Novembre and Lacrimas Profundere. It is one thing to write music like CoB, Slayer and so, who are difficult to play, but its another thing to write music who touch you emotionally and is so powerful.
That's what I try to do. I wanna make music with so much intense emotion, that you actually get the exact feeling I'm trying to put across. But, I'm not quite there yet, at all in my opinion. But yeah, I get that feeling from bands like - - Sigur Ros - Pig Destroyer - Mastodon - Radiohead - Isis (sometimes) I love that stuff though. You get tons of chills when listening to their songs and stuff.
Would you mind sending me some of their stuff? peter_time(at) hotmail,.com if it's not too much trouble, thanks :)
Yeah, I'm going to uplaod a bunch of albums right now, so I'll send you the link when I'm done. It's gonna be a YSI one though, so, I hope that's not a problem. |
- Sigur Ros - Pig Destroyer - Mastodon - Radiohead - Isis (sometimes)
well, at first i thought this is sarcasm, but i forgot that you are a big pig destroyer fan ... so you mean it, how you wrote it. but i can't understand it... well, each human is different on earth :thumb: and beside that, i too want to make rather music which is "easy" to play but hits you full emotionally... for me THIS is the purpose of making music, not showing off how good you can play guitar. the only sad thing is that most ppl i know think the other way round. |
I'm glad you guys liked the Lacrimas Profundere album. I must warn you though, that was the last album that would fall in the doom genre. After Burning: A Wish, they went in a more goth rock direction.

I know a lot of pieces of fast music that hit me just as hard as the slower ones, such as Jason Becker's "Air," John Coltrane's "Giant Steps," or either of the solos in "Buckethead" by Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. It's not really about how simple or difficult it is, it's about the notes that are being played and the manner in which they are done so. Hell, even the wankage parts in "Acid Rain" by Liquid Tension Experiment get me more than a lot of music. But to get back on topic, has anybody here heard of Boris? They're a Japanese drone/stoner/psychadelic band, named after a Melvins song. It's some pretty moving stuff. My favorite album is probably Amplifier Worship, one of their drone albums. |

Like that guy after you said, it's not how difficult or easy it is, it's just how you can relate to it. And I get that alot, the Pig Destroyer thing. People are like "You think THIS is the most emotional album you've ever heard?!?!?!?!". But I can relate to it so good, and yeah, I'll stop before I go into a huge, huge rant :p I'll check out Boris right now, halfdeadhippo. And just to let you guys know, I'm uploading some Doom Metal stuff for the Daily Upload/the people I promised I'd upload for. So, expect it by tomorrow afternoon sometime. EDIT - I'm listening to Boris - The Flood Part 1 right now. I'm not that into it, it's really weird though, which is a plus in my opinion :p But yeah, are all their albums like this? Or what? I DO like the Lustmord type stuff they have going on though. The explosion type things going off about halfway through the song. |

1.Evoken{U.S.A} 2.Esoteric{U.K} 3.Dolorian{Finland} Mainly Underground But with Both Good Sound and Production
I've only heard Dolorian. I have the s/t and have heard some stuff off of When All The Laughter Is Gone. I like them quite a bit. They have very good lyrics. Even though every song has about 10 lines of them haha. |
my favorites are st.vitus, electric wizard, isis, place of skulls, mdb, and centrifuge i guess.

1.Evoken{U.S.A} 2.Esoteric{U.K} 3.Dolorian{Finland} Mainly Underground But with Both Good Sound and Production
I'd love to hear some funeral doom with heavy guitar. Still, I can't get over Skepticism. They're amazing. I love the drumming. |
Nortt is good Funeral Doom. Try that :)
|
I got Virgin Black - Elegant...And Dying from Neurotoxin, and it's absolutely breathtaking. I'm looking forward to listening to more of this stuff.
I live with Virgin Black's drummer... |
Also if you were interested they've just recorded a three disk album with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
|
Oh goody another doom metal thread full of talk about slow death metal bands, gothic wankery and avantgarde nonsense. Oh and let's not forget to talk about stoner and sludge too!
FFS there's enough proper doom metal bands out there to fill a thread. Sorry for grumpiness but I've got food poisoning and only a double whammy of Orodruin and The Gates of Slumber is getting me through. That and the discovery of an old Icefall demo in the attic. |
To be fair this one looks like it will probably last longer then any of the others.
|
No problem, exellent man thanks |
Nortt is good Funeral Doom. Try that :)
Yeah I've heard a bit of the Nortt. The atmosphere is awesome but it's not really heavy. Just fuzz. Not all is lost; I discovered that if you play Skepticism at low volume the guitar is just thick fuzz, but pump up the volume and it suddenly crushes everything. |
FFS there's enough proper doom metal bands out there to fill a thread.
And there's enough views on what "Doom Metal" is to fill a forum. |

No prob man, Hey I have a doubt, are Anathema considered Doom Metal? because I saw that some people didn't consider them DM but I really hear a lot of DM moments in their songs.
NP: Anathema - ...And I Lust |
That's what I have them classified as.
