200 watts might be alright just for vocals at small gigs.

isojoe420 07-15-2005 11:29 AM
200w is maybe not so much as you might think.
200w maybe more than you might think.

doubtful...200w isnt much for a pa system.

airborne50caliber 07-15-2005 03:20 PM

200w is louder than it seems written down.

Like I said, 200w is more than YOU think.

10571z 07-17-2005 05:40 AM

200w is perfect i have a 150 watt its fine for practices

moaner 07-17-2005 05:53 AM
200w is louder than it seems written down.
yes.

However, when it comes to actual gigging over the volume of a crowd, it doesn't go as far as you might think from use at a practice.

isojoe420 07-17-2005 06:03 PM

I'm thinking of upgrading from my Kustom System to this one. Anyone had any experience with it?

Horenulas 07-19-2005 02:02 PM

Hey guys I'm sick of looking for a PA so I'll ask for help. What do you think is the best PA for just practice. Thats all we need it for. Well, possibly a show but just like small ones in a basement. Thanks alot.

Go for one of those Peavey, Yamaha or Behringer packaged systems. 2x300 watts should be great.

volcom437b 07-19-2005 05:16 PM

i might seem idiot o aks that...but what does pa means?

Public Address
Like I said, 200w is more than YOU think.
no its not. It might be pretty loud when alone, but put it next to a half stack, bass stack, and drumset, plus the crowd.....not so much. Our band has an 80w for practices, and it's hardly any louder than our back-up singer's thrash voice. So 200w really isn't all that much, maybe enough for practices, but nothing more

Works for me!

unpowered speakers?

just a quick question. what's the difference between a powered speaker and an unpowered speaker?

also my band has just a little over 200 dollars to spend. what is the best pa we could get for that much? we already have mics and stands and stuff cuz we had a borrowed one that we were using but not anymore. it would be competing with an electric guitar, bass, and drums.

Aes820 07-28-2005 07:19 PM

Powered speakers have their own built in poweramps. You can run a line level signal into these and they'll amplfyit themselves. They are pretty much self contained.

Unpowered (or passive) speakers are pretty much just a speaker in a box. You will need a poweramp in order to run them.

PAs are unfortunately quite expensive. And although you may be able to grab one for a couple of hundred bucks it may not be too good. You could just grab a little practise PA that'll be great for no more than a house-party sized gig. But if you want a more serious setup then I'd suggest you save your money and go for something a little bigger and better.

ALL15000 07-29-2005 08:39 PM

so if i just got a pa system with like an 80 watt mixer would there be a limit to the number of speakers i could hook up to it?

isojoe420 07-29-2005 08:44 PM
so if i just got a pa system with like an 80 watt mixer would there be a limit to the number of speakers i could hook up to it?
For such a low wattage mixer, I don't see a point in doing that.

ALL15000 07-29-2005 10:35 PM

PA comparison

i just got some money so now were looking into some other ones. im not sure which one is better. take a look at these. is this worth it

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=142/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/631254/

and we have better mics already than what come with that.

Definately go with the Kustom.

ThePinkPanther 07-30-2005 10:48 AM

i was also looking at that Kustom, is it better for the money than the Behringer i was looking at.

isojoe420 07-30-2005 12:47 PM

No, that Behringer is better.

ThePinkPanther 07-30-2005 02:38 PM

for the money or should i not even bother with the kustom if i can get the behringer

isojoe420 07-30-2005 02:41 PM
for the money or should i not even bother with the kustom if i can get the behringer
Exactly. If you can afford the Behringer, go with that one. You might be sorry later if you go with the Kustom.

ThePinkPanther 07-30-2005 03:04 PM

well then, time for a couple months more saving or for my bands cd to get finished and for it to sell

isojoe420 07-30-2005 08:47 PM

In buying PA gear, I've learned the hard way too many times on going with something that is cheaper. It looks good at the time, but you'll learn the hard way when you realize that it's underpowered, doesn't have enough channels, cheap quality, etc. Don't impulse buy! SAVE UP YOUR MONEY!!! You'll be glad you did.

Chrisman69 07-31-2005 12:09 AM

Hey my band is about to get a 300+300 watt powered mixer but unfortounatly were short on cash for speakers.... so is it possible to only run one speaker out of the mixer or will that do some damage?

thanks
