like idnuf said it's unconventional and boundary pushing. It tries to make you look at music in a way that you may not have before. It also doesn't try to be enjoyable to listen to, so if you don't like or understand why people listen to it that is totally understandable.

it's like atonal compositions, it's more to appreciate what the composer did rather than enjoy the music at face-value

this is not necessarily true. i've enjoyed noise free from any intellectualizing of it, in fact i find it more satisfying to listen to when the mind is blank, free from the parts of my brain which crave more structure. discussion of noise is often general and abstract because what one takes from it is necessarily personal; everyone takes something different from the same piece. you aren't [i]given[/i] the experience, it's filtered through your own personality. this might make it seem 'pointless' to some but it also makes it more dynamic, the experience is not the same every time listening to the same piece.

of course all of what i said is [i]also[/i] generalized. it's more diverse than it would seem from the way it's talked about

Yep. I agree with all of this. Each piece and experience is different for every person. I can't explain why I like it or why it clicks with me, it just does.

I can't listen to noise like all these other regs in the industrial thread do but dissonance and atonality can be satisfying. I prefer it when it is mixed with elements that could be considered more musical though.

Haven't really heard much noise that struck a chord with me, not that I'm not open to the idea of it but ya.
