I've got the digipack edition. Such a shame I don't like it :-\
|
There's a digipack to the self titled ? :-/ I thought it was only Crimson King...
But yeah, I remember you in the past saying you didn't like Demons and Wizards  |
yeah, it must the Iced Earth influence =)
Here are some pics of the digipack edition: http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a193/StormWarrior/?action=view¤t=DSC00396.jpg http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a193/StormWarrior/?action=view¤t=DSC00397.jpg http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a193/StormWarrior/?action=view¤t=DSC00401.jpg |
Ohhh, pop up Reaper :p
And quiet with the "must be the Iced Earth Influence"! I should send you those songs I said I'de send you like ages ago. You need to hear some more IE. :p |
Now you're really late Jammie. It's the most inappropriate time, I'm busy getting into classic rock. And goth.
|
Darn. Well, when you want them, just ask. I doubt you ever will but hey! I'll just randomly send them one day.
|
>_>
/blocks twinky :D EDIT Seriously, I wouldn't say no to a song of yours though. Remember the ones who had sent me? Have you written some more? EDIT2 Don't worry, I'm not stealing them  (you think!) |
It's called an email, Stoicy :p
Pfft, it's not like you're ever on anyways dont bock jammie :-( |
I too have the s/t digipak.
|
I like Demons & Wizards' self-titled more than Blind Guardian and Iced Earth.
|
I never got into D&W myself and I'm actually not sure why.
I love BG and I like IE, and a combination of bombastic BG choruses with the heaviness of IE sounds like it would kill... but the actual result always felt like left over BG material rather than the best work of a hybrid band. Maybe I should give it another shot and see if I feel differently now, but that was the feeling I got when I heard it the first few times... |

I think they're all overrated.

I think you suck :p Heaven Denies has such an amazing chorus. Just wow.
Seriously, I wouldn't say no to a song of yours though. Remember the ones who had sent me? Have you written some more? Remember the one you said which had a Death influence, well I kind of edited that one a bit. Didn't change anything that was there, just will be adding stuff...like Keyboards. I use more keyboards/choir these days. Actually, I use a lot heh. Of course the obvious IE influence is still there :p ...I can send one I guess. Don't steal them  /paranoid :upset: |

Anybody follow Savage Circus? Apparently the touring version of the band was basically Iron Savior with the guitarist and vocalist from Persuader but apparently Thomen is back behind the kit now, good news! I think Persuader, Savage Circus, and Iron Savior should tour together since they are all in each other's bands and throw Blind Guardian in as the headliner since SC and Persuader both sound very much like old BG
|
What Iron Savior should I look for while we're on the subject?
|
Condition Red and Bettering Ram are the ones I have, both good
|
There this guy on a local metal forum that's selling some sweet power metal (from what I know) at a reasonable price. I've already met up with him and bought 4 CD's at $10 each....
Angra - Hunters And Prey Angra - Rebirth Bal-Sagoth - The Power Comsic Edguy - Hellfire Club Now the CD's were in great condition, and I'm interested in maybe meeting up with him again and buying some more, however, I don't know much about some of the other artists. So here's the list of what he has left (and what I don't have)..... Annihilator – Carnival Diablos At Vance – The Evil In You Avantasia – The Metal Opera Brainstorm – Soul Temptation Freedom Call – Crystal Empire Gamma Ray – Somewhere Out in Space Gamma Ray – No World Order Heavenly – Sign of the Winner Insania – Sunrise in Riverland Imperanon – Stained Mob Rules – Savage Land Nocturnal Rites – New World Messiah Sinergy – Suicide By My Side Sonata Arctica – Reckoning Day Stratovarius – Infinite Visions (DVD) So I ask, which of those would be a good buy?? |
1. Gamma Ray – Somewhere Out in Space (++)
2. Brainstorm – Soul Temptation 3. Avantasia – The Metal Opera 4. Freedom Call – Crystal Empire PS Of course, try to listen to some samples first ;) PS2 I'm not familiar with all the bands/albums you posted. |
I was thinking of getting Somehwere out in Space, and I already have The Metal Opera Part II....so I'm not so sure I want the first one...
But what are the Brainstorm and Freedom Call like?? Just a brief sentence or so would be sweet :). Similarities, etc. |
Well Freedom Call are your typical cheesy euro-power with happy choirs but I remember liking it because it was catchy in the way Avantasia is. Love it or hate it band.
Brainstorm are aggressive power metal, no cheesiness here. Heavy guitars, rough vocals in the vain of Barlow and tasteful, sometimes almost prog sounding keys. Sound like a less technical metallica (MoP) and a more modern straight forward Iced Earth, but these comparisons are rather vague since nothing better comes to my mind :-\ Sometimes they sound a bit too generic to me but they have their moments. Definitely get the Gamma Ray but think twice about the other two, especially Freedom Call. You can always save money for a slough feg album <3. Or Cage \m/ Are you still on dial up? If so I could name you a couple of sites where you could hear some samples... |

ooo, sounds interesting. :-) :P I havn't checked out new Power Metal bands in a long time. I should start by getting a Manowar album or something :p |
That Annihilator album is good, probably their best one since 93... but it's more thrahs than power metal...
|
Annihilator! I didn't care about them after Alice in Hell. They're not discussed too much either for some reason.
|
Are you still on dial up? If so I could name you a couple of sites where you could hear some samples...
Yeh, I'm still stuck with this wonderful dial-up :(
That Annihilator album is good, probably their best one since 93... but it's more thrahs than power metal...
Yeh, I like some Thrash too (Overkill's still my favorite metal band), but I was never huge into Annihilator. Is that one kind of similar to new Testament with the agreesion and heaviness? And another question about the Gamma Ray.....what are the best songs from it, because I do have "A Blast From the Past" by them, which is a compilation of re-recorded songs. |
Basically, it's a very good compilation and I think the fans chose the songs. It's all good, no complaints. If you want specific recommendations try for example:Heading for Tomorrow, Lust for Life, Man on a Mission and Send me a Sign.
Yeh, I'm still stuck with this wonderful dial-up
Dude, I had been on dial from 1998 to 2005. I used to discover music through 30 second samples: http://www.cduniverse.com http://www.last.fm/explore/ |
Get the Nocturnal Rites one...it's absolutely excellent, one of myalltime favourite albums, catchier than AIDS and the common cold mixed together.
|
I'm personally partial to the Sonata Arctica one (it's called Reckoning NIGHT, not Day). Love that album.
|
That's the album I downloaded from them a while back...well, I ended up deleting it so... :p
