A Farewell Note To This City is one of the best metal songs ever too.

beans 01-23-2008 08:31 PM

really? all ive heard since i joined this site is how good jane doe is and now you say thats the best one?

LifeInABox 01-23-2008 08:32 PM

I have never said Jane Doe was the best.

Ed Wood 01-23-2008 08:32 PM
I have never said Jane Doe was the best.
it just seems jane doe is held in much higher regards than any of the other albums are, thats all
A Farewell Note To This City is one of the best metal songs ever too.
it isn't a metal song.

bunit. 'Jane Doe' is their best record. it may not have their best single songs, but as a comprehensive piece of art 'Jane Doe' is unrivaled in Converge's discography as well as the discography of most 'extreme' music.

LifeInABox 01-23-2008 08:36 PM

It's a skrams song

masscows 01-23-2008 08:38 PM

Jane Doe is their best sorry. It just goes through so many emotional stages and different soundscapes as well as just being flat out brutal as hell. It's a transcendent piece of art.

The first Converge I heard was No Heroes and I hated it, but that album grew on me too. I liked Jane Doe on first listen.

beans 01-23-2008 08:38 PM

ok so i guess i did pick the best one to buy first, ive heard a lot of people talking about no heroes, thats thier newest one correct?

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 08:38 PM

not really. that album is such a loosely defined album genre wise, i would just label it as Converge. The Saddest Day is obviously one of the birth places of modern metalcore though. You even could extend that to hardcore, but that would be making some what of a stretch.

yes, it is based in thrashy short songs as well as some of the sounds they explored on 'You Fail Me'. really good record even if the ordering is a tad disappointing.

LifeInABox 01-23-2008 08:39 PM

But noone else sounds even remotly like Converge, so I don't see it as a birth place, more of an incredibly well done, never duplicated songs in modern metalcore.

Iluvatar 01-23-2008 08:40 PM

The only track I really listen to off of PTES is "The Saddest Day" and then sometimes I like to rock "Shingles."

I listen to Jane Doe and and When Forever Comes Crashing a lot, and sometimes I'll bring out Ne Heroes but thats grown off of me.

beans 01-23-2008 08:41 PM

they have that one down at my local record store so i think ill pick that one up tomorrow and see what i think of it, all this talk of converge dammit made me put in jane doe

pixiesfanyo 01-23-2008 08:41 PM

lots of bands sound like early Converge, lots of bands try to sound like later Converge.

they just have played with a lot of different sounds of the years, as a band that has been around as long as them should be expect to.

@ the harry potter fan.

LifeInABox 01-23-2008 08:47 PM

what no lol thats hpf omg

masscows 01-23-2008 08:50 PM

"ok" harry potter fan

RetiredAt21 01-23-2008 11:37 PM

"The Saddest Day"...the birth of generic JUN JUN WEE metalcore. I still like that song, though.

Dimmu Burger 01-24-2008 09:56 AM

They bring the Juns. It is, after all, all about the Juns.

botb 01-24-2008 10:40 AM

obviously all about the Juns. and the WEES just make the Juns better amirite?

RetiredAt21 01-24-2008 10:41 AM

No, WEES are really fucking annoying. Too many bands overuse them shits.

Dimmu Burger 01-24-2008 10:44 AM

WEEs are a privilege not a right.

Confessed2005 01-24-2008 10:52 AM

WEES are cool if used sparingly.

I think one of the better more modern metalcore bands is Architects.

Hey a new user with good taste!

I want the new Architects/Dead Swans split. I don't think it leaked yet though.

he's not that new, he's been writing reviews on the review site since way before I was around.

Architects overuses the wee's imo.

Whoops! I looked at his post count without looking at when he registered.

Sorry dude!

I don't remember Architects overusing the Wees, i'll have to listen again and see though.

My summary of the past few pages:
Pixies points out common knowledge, Justin points out that he doesn't like things.

Everything is in order then.
