Fact: a Chinese restaurant near my house already factors tips into the bill, so if you tip the driver, you're double tipping him.
How bogus is that? Also, I haven't used the word bogus in so long. I'm going to start using it more. -Gav |
Heh, I would hate it if you had to tip everyone, it's outrageous. God, I love Australia.

That has to be illegal, youre basically robbing people of their dollar bills if you dont tell them tip is included. Do you know what word we have to bring back? COWABUNGA. |

Nicko is one of the best drummers I've ever heard. Well..More so his single kick ability and his style. I love him to death, he's such a nut :p Time for a Nicko avatar. |

Oh silly Jon. I would never claim lessons have no benefits, technique will definitely improve from lessons. But I don't think lessons improve songwriting abilities or musical sense in the slightest. Nor does theory.
Theory and such make the process much easier, because writing things isn't as much of a guess-and-check situation. You know that this note over this note will not sound good, instead of just thinking "if I hit this fret here over this chord, will it sound good?" As someone who has written music while taking lessons, it does improve one's ability to convey the musical message that you have in head. |
Goddamnit! I waited too long to pre-order Thursday and the vinyl offer is expired. :(

That sucks Chris. :( But thanks for reminding me. I was all set to go buy the album on Tuesday, and now that you mention it, I forgot I already preordered it. |

Sucks. Its not like you need the vinyl, though. |
Yeah, I'm just gonna get it on ebay I suppose. And still pre-order it because you can get like a special edition.
Still mad :upset: though |
Sucks.
Its not like you need the vinyl, though.
Yes, I do. I'm cr00sh. Plus I have a record player and I could hear that cr00sh b-side. Speaking of that, has the b-side leaked yet? |
Yeah, but after you've been playing for about 3 months you can know what sounds right.
Maybe if you're a bassist and you only have to deal with bass notes. It's much harder for guitarists. |
Yes, I do. I'm cr00sh. Plus I have a record player and I could hear that cr00sh b-side.

But I don't have any idea what scale I'm actually playing. I just know it's a scale that fits. I think you can acquire the same talents without lessons. |
Good luck learning how to sweep and pinch harmonic without someone to teach you.
I can pinch. I've not had an interest in sweeping yet but if the interest strikes me I can learn it. |
I'm kind of wondering how good the anti-lesson people are, because most of the people I've met in real life who have that viewpoint really aren't. Of course everyone is different, but from what I've seen the vast majority of the music-playing population desperately need lessons.
I'm kind of wondering how good the anti-lesson people are, because most of the people I've met in real life who have that viewpoint really aren't.
I'm terrible. :) And I'm not anti-lessons, like I said, you get much better technique in lessons. I just don't think a formal education in music makes you a better musician. |
Does better technique not make you a better musician
|
I just don't think a formal education in music makes you a better musician.
I've just spent a year meeting the best musicians I've ever met at this University, so I'm sorry but from where I'm coming from that is a really ignorant statement. |
