Sweet, I was right. |
Chapman sticks are ridiculous. It's a stick...with billions of strings.
|
I guess its what give New Millenium a Indian stlye vibe.
It looks pretty confusing to learn. |
I've heard it's hard as hell to learn...don't only like 5 or 6 people know how to play it?
|

I have no idea, but Im sure more people know how to play it. |
Tony Levin of King Crimson I've heard is a pretty good Chapman Stick player. I think he plays it on one of the Liquid Tension Experiment records...

NP: DT - Only a Matter of Time
Well, I said I'm not sure. Either way, he's a god on bass. |

I think he actually plays it almost exclusively on LTE2, and on some of the songs on LTE1. |
i was under the impression that the chapman stick is like a 12-string guitar. it's just a 6-string bass thing w/ doubled strings. but i could be wrong.
check out this video of some guy playing mario on an 11-string bass (NOT a chapman stick) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5fYwiXZeFU |

I think he plays it all the way through both albums. If you want to hear some incredible Chpaman stick playing, listen to King Crimson's Discipline album. |
The chapman stick is played with tapping or like a regular bass?
|

His style fits Frip, Belew, and Bruford's so perfectly. He's also done some good work with Peter Gabriel, and he's played with Paul Simon.
The chapman stick is played with tapping or like a regular bass?
Tapping, I think. |
The chapman stick is played with tapping or like a regular bass?
When Myung was playing it, he was tapping it. |
I think that's the only way you can play it. That's what makes it difficult.
|
I have a few videos on How-To play a Chapman stick, apparantly it is very similar to a Piano (The vide I have mentions something about the dexterity in your hand, and how you 'tap' the notes in the same fashion as you press a key on a piano), it's not hard to play, just requires a lot of muscle repetition, and just overall knowledge of music imo.
|
you tap it.
GUYSGUYSGUYS metropolis 2000 DVD came in the mail finally :] i just spent 3 hours watching it, and the colors and stuff annoy me, but...goddamn. it's really quality stuff otherwise. through her eyes and spirit carries on brought tears to my eyes... EDIT: haha "you tap it" sounds interesting when taken out of context like i did. you tap the chapman stick* |

That's actually a Warr guitar. Somewhat different. But yes, he is indeed amazing. |
you tap it.

It's very similar to just tapping a bass really. My friend can play it - New Millenium at least. |
Any recordings? Vids?
|
I will try to get some for you next time i see him
|
That's cool.
It's not that I don't believe him, it's just I'd like to see it in action. |
