thanks man.
No problem dude.

I have been trying to find some Wuthering Heights. I know Alex always talks about them, but never got a chance to listen to them. What album should I start with?

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:42 PM
Hair Metal? I'm not sure where you got that from :-\
Haha, I thought I had an album before from them that was hair metal, but guess not. Probably some other band.

Burger Bike 01-05-2007 10:00 PM

I really love Alogia - Secret spheres of art

Riva 01-05-2007 10:46 PM

Savatage -had- a couple of hair metal moments, but Wake Of Magellan, The Hall Of The Mountain King, Edge Of Thorns, etc, are all pretty heavy/power metallish.

The last 2 albums are both very good. Far from the Maddening Crowd is probably still my favorite though the new one, The Shadow Cabinet, is also great.

I'll check those out. Thanks alot.

I need some suggestions for atypical power/traditional or power/prog bands. I have many many albums of bands that are all kind of blending together into generic stuff and I'm looking for standouts. My favorite stuff at the moment is Kamelot and Stormental... any suggestions?

Shattered_Future 01-09-2007 07:15 PM

Atypical? Try some Sonata Arctica. They do traditional neoclassicalish power metal very nicely.

You could try either Oceanborn or Wishmaster by Nightwish as well.

MetalOz 01-09-2007 08:19 PM

I have Sonata Arctica's discography already and I already have those Nightwish albums as well, but thanks for trying :thumb: I might try something thrashier. The latest Winters Bane, Communic, and Nevermore have been getting a lot of play lately as well...

pate 01-09-2007 09:21 PM

Winters Bane :chug:

MetalOz 01-15-2007 02:39 PM

I just discovered another German band that have been around forever and I had never heard them... PARAGON

I got The Dark Legacy and it's great traditional/power stuff. Of course it has to be since it was produced by Piet Sielck (Iron Savior)

Any other fans?

/bump, third page!

Riva 01-15-2007 05:02 PM

I saw a Paragon album once, but I didn't pick it up for reasons that escape me at the moment. I'll look into it again... Sounds like Iron Saviour?

Lunarfall 01-15-2007 07:39 PM

Someone recommend me a Rhapsody of Fire album. Preferably the best one in your opinion.

Btw, what does Demons and Wizards sound like? Blind Guardian?

Stormrider 01-15-2007 07:44 PM

Demons and Wizards has some of Jon's(Iced Earth) signature riffing. And Hansi's vocals over it basicly(some changes obviously). If you like either band, I'm sure you'll like Demons and Wizards :)

So, any Rhapsody of Fire recommendations?

I would recommend Symphony of Enchanted Lands II, but thats the only one I have.

PS. That Symphony X albums is godly.

Stormrider 01-15-2007 08:18 PM

I don't think I ever got myself through all of the Odyssey(song) :-/

pate 01-15-2007 10:17 PM

ITT: Jammie loses respect.

no, not rly :p

Oz: I don't really like Paragon.

MetalOz 01-16-2007 12:34 PM

I only have the one album and it's quite good... haven't heard any of their early material but their last few albums were all produced by Piet Sielck so I'm guessing they'll have that same vibe...

Everything by Symphony X = :thumb:
Everything by Symphony X = :thumb:
You've got that right, my friend.

Stormrider 01-16-2007 05:18 PM

I should really listen to more of them though. As I realy like the songs I have.

Riva 01-16-2007 06:37 PM

Meh, I like Symphony X, but there is symphonic/progressive power metal out there that I like a lot more.

Thasis 01-16-2007 07:14 PM

They're alright, not my favorite not my least favorite. Their a middle band for me. Now Kamelot, that's an amazing band. A bit bland at times, but they pull off AMAZING live preformances, and are realy talented musicians.

Shattered_Future 01-16-2007 07:49 PM

Kamelot is going to play in my town 8 days after my birthday. Which means I have a fighting chance to go see them live.

Symphony X is amazing. Even more so live. They were probably the best live experience I've ever had. Russell Allen has an uncanny ability to make you pay attention to everything he does.

Stormrider 01-16-2007 08:16 PM

I'de definitely like to see them live ^(Symphony X). He does have an amazing voice.

As for Kamelot, another band that I like what I heard, but I havn't dug any further :-/ ...I really should.

Wait, Kamelot near you means Kamelot near me... scours the Jaxx calendar...August 17th with Leaves Eyes :thumb:

And I've seen Symphony X a couple times, they're great live! Russell Allen used to be a narrator at Medieval Times, he had a broadsword on their tour bus and he was forced to leave it at the border when crossing into Canada :smash: THey had to go way outa their way when coming back into teh USA to pick up his sword
