I like B tuning a lot... it sounds so heavy, and for me it sounds more natural than E tuning

btw Behemoth tuning \m/

Toaster 01-03-2006 04:09 PM

Yeah, I have a guitar tuned to E standard and B standard. B is really heavy.. and drop it to A and you have Nile! Nile songs are really fun to play.

MRDuCran 01-03-2006 04:54 PM

Indeed they are. I learnt Lashed to the Slave Stick recently, so cool.
I really want a tab for Sacrifice Unto Sebek. I tryed myself but got bored after about 5 minutes.

PsychoticFlubber 01-03-2006 05:34 PM

Maybe I am the only one who doesn't like low tunings... I love to play things like Behemoth and Arch Enemy which are tuned 1 and a half steps below standard... but I hate playing anything that is tuned 1 and a half steps down in dropped B... Playing things such as Slipknot annoy me to no end because most of the time the strings flap around and have horrible sound. I like bands that tune like that though... like Kataklysm.

Shadows 01-03-2006 05:37 PM

Then get yourself heavier strings. That makes all the difference. I love low tunings when it's all set up correctly, because then I can just turn up my amp and chug any mindless power chords and it sounds so brutal.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 05:38 PM

I ordered some Zakk Wylde strings so my tone will be much heavier than it is now, I use .10's.

Shadows 01-03-2006 05:39 PM

I'm using .10's right now, but I can't stand them. I'm tuned to C# to learn a Behemoth song, but I need at least .11's or it feels really sloppy to play.

Britton 01-03-2006 05:50 PM

I'm using tens on a Jay Turser LP style guitar. I tune down and turn up the OD
and I get a great Zakk tone.

are ya'll fans of Alexi's tone?

IheartSP 01-03-2006 05:52 PM

His tone is decent, a bit too crunchy at times for my taste, especially on FTR. My favorite rythym tone of all time has to be Jon Schaffer's tone, especially in the song Stand Alone. As far as lead I think Alexi does have a good lead tone, along with Jari Maenppa and Timo Tolkki.

Yea he has great lead tone. for some weird random reason it reminds me of comic books...is that strange or what?

Shadows 01-03-2006 05:55 PM

I don't mind Alexi's rhythm tone now, but anything before HCDR and it seems like his tone was for lead only. It didn't have much of a bottom end at all.

umosay 01-03-2006 06:10 PM

Dumb thing about the RSE in GP5 is the drums!!! You can hardly hear them.

dest. Chaos 01-03-2006 06:11 PM
I use GP for writing mostly, and you can hear how your compositions sound with as many guitars as you want, keyz, drums so you get a full band sound.
:chug:

IheartSP 01-03-2006 06:11 PM

I can hear the drums fine, it's the bass drum that's the problem. The beta version of 5.1 comes out later this week I believe, where you can make your own patches and drum kits and such.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 06:13 PM

Check out the forums on www.mysongbook.com, Hackerman usually has the latest updates on everything.

I have to fortissimo the bass to hear it on GP4.

MRDuCran 01-03-2006 06:29 PM

I've recently fallen in love with Alexis tone, it's realy dry sounding which is really cool for palm muted pickign 16th notes or something. Like Sixpounder or Chokehold.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 06:30 PM

Man I am getting verbally pummelled in that Metalcore thread. It's really hard for me to understand that 30 Seconds to Mars and Dashboard Confessional aren't emo, and all these crazy 90's grungeish indieish bands are what emo really is.

Shadows 01-03-2006 06:32 PM

People always seem so edgy about emo and metalcore. Discussions on what they are always turn into flame fests, so I just stay away since I don't like or listen to them anyway.

King_Of_Terrors 01-03-2006 06:41 PM

I'm the same as ShadowsFallen. I don't listen to it, but I just tell people its hardcore + metal.

Silenius 01-03-2006 06:43 PM

Well everything with core at the end evolved from hardcore, some even say grind did.

King_Of_Terrors 01-03-2006 06:45 PM

True. I don't listen to Grindcore so I wouldn't know.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 06:47 PM

But apparently metalcore has nothing to do with emo, and Avenged Sevenfold has nothing to do with emo, and even Dashboard Confessional has nothing to do with emo. It's all quite bewildering.

Silenius 01-03-2006 06:49 PM

I have no idea what A7X is, but they suck.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 06:50 PM

Well in my mind A7x is Metalcore, Hard Rock, and some parts are actually quite remeniscent of Powermetal.

King_Of_Terrors 01-03-2006 06:56 PM

I don't listen to Avengedge Sevenfold either.

blue3 01-03-2006 07:00 PM

I've only heard a few songs by them. They're okay.

:(

They are so image obsessed. (very homo-erotic)

Lil’ Bloodred Ridin’ Hood 01-03-2006 07:15 PM

idk anything bout them i just know they sound like crap lol

IheartSP 01-03-2006 07:16 PM

They look like complete emo pussies.

Shadows 01-03-2006 07:28 PM

Heheheheh, I can't stand that band. I'd be lying if I said their image wasn't part of it, but the music is just as bad.

IheartSP 01-03-2006 07:30 PM

The only thing I give them credit for is the occasional power metal leads.

Shattered_Future 01-03-2006 07:35 PM

Avenged Sevenfold's new album is one of the worst things I've ever heard.

Waking The Fallen, however, is an absolutely brilliant album. All of you haters, go listen to either Second Heartbeat or I Won't See You Tonight Part 2. The solos in both of those will make you go :amaze: .

And I think the best example of what real emo is is A Day In Black And White.
Dashboard Confessional is MTV's version of emo.

MRDuCran 01-03-2006 07:39 PM

Apparantly the guitarist is a good sweep picker, I listened to one of their songs and it was as sloppy as the shiit that I squeezed out earlier today.

Lil’ Bloodred Ridin’ Hood 01-03-2006 07:52 PM

lol thats so gross

MRDuCran 01-03-2006 07:54 PM

u luv it

Shadows 01-03-2006 07:54 PM

From what I had heard, I do't see why so many people rank their guitarist up with Pretrucci. Maybe I was just listening to the wrong songs, but it was the epitome of mediocrity.

MRDuCran 01-03-2006 07:56 PM

Up with Petrucci.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA

No

Fukkin

WAY!!!

haha

Petrucci OWNS that wimp bitch
