It's fine with me.

I don't mind list threads like that, but sometimes they get out of hand. I'm okay with the rule that we have, though.

Favorite thread.

I'm thinking that there should be a new rule that once a user has said the usual "Read the rules/this is illegal/ etc", anybody posting after that should be punished. This is because I'm very annoyed by the people who post "This is illegal" in threads where the threadstarter has already been informed. For example:

n00b: Hay guyz! wut r ur fav songs?!?!?!

guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

other guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

third guy: This is illegal, read the rules.

Douchebag.

forth guy: posting in a n00b thread.

Well, you get the picture.

And we need a new community thread.

NOW.

I'm getting withdrawl symptoms..

*shivers*

TojesDolan 11-28-2005 06:58 PM

But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?

MBS 11-28-2005 07:00 PM
But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?
Maybe posts that are more than 5 minutes apart and repeat the same message?

Ugh, hard to put in words. Like say user1 posts at 3:12 and user2 posts at 3:19 with the same message. Punish user2.
But what will happen when two users post that at the same time?
Thats what happened to me. My PC was slow and Neuro beat me to it. I was going to edit the link into my post, as I usually do, but Neuro did it already. I didn't want to post the link twice, because that would serve no purpose. I went back to delete my post and the thread was locked.

Mister Blue Sky was probably angry about my post. Sorry if I bothered you. I meant no harm.
Mister Blue Sky was probably angry about my post. Sorry if I bothered you. I meant no harm.
Wasn't you, I've just seen way too many users in the past do what I was describing. I could tell that you got slowdown because it was a minute margin between you and Neuro. It happens to me, too.

Actually, it's not that big of a deal, just a pet peeve of mine.

Riva 11-28-2005 07:03 PM

I did ban all those people last time. I can start doing it again, if you like.

So, that's it? I was wondering why Jelle closed it a little early...

Riva 11-28-2005 07:11 PM

There may be another one. Depending on how we feel the user's maturity levels are.

Whoa, this is news to me. Are you (and by you, I mean whoever's [as in more than one person, it sounds like] bright idea it was to close it for an undisclosed amount of time) citing one individual, or a collective body?

Stormrider 11-28-2005 07:34 PM

Does post count or date of registration decide whether or not your a N00b ?

I was just wondering because I read the rule in the nominations thread about N00bs must have a registration date of september 2005.

Jom 11-28-2005 07:36 PM

The competition does not mean it in a derogatory term. "NURMOTM" (New User Rock and Metaler of the Month) just doesn't have that same acronymic ring as "NRMOTM" (n00b rock and metaler of the month) does.

As a general answer: more often then not, yes, postcount and joindate often dictate whether or not one is a new user or not. The glaring exceptions would be, for me, this account's inception in August 2004. New joindate? Yes. New user? Not exactly.

And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had a previous account here.

Riva 11-28-2005 07:37 PM

A noob in the nominations thread is determined by joindate, as it is described in said thread.

Jom, we're not pointing any fingers.

Kingofdudes 11-28-2005 07:40 PM

The community thread didnt seem spammy to me.

Jom 11-28-2005 07:41 PM

Hm. Well, in the very least, you've learned well in terms of being completely vague when giving answers as a mod :p

Look, I understand that it was getting big and all, but it was on, what, 47,### or so? If it was getting all that out of line, I'm sure someone would have said something. Bartender was rather blunt about it the first time around. I'm not encouraging his bluntness again, but surely a post reminder would have suited the thread just fine.

Riva 11-28-2005 07:42 PM

It's a side-effect of being absorbed into the mod overmind.

Jom 11-28-2005 07:47 PM
Oh ok. I understood everything except for derogatory and acronymic :p

Thanks though.
Acronymic isn't a word, to my knowledge. I just made it up for kicks.

An acronym is an abbreviation, basically.

For example:

National Football League = NFL
National Basketball Association = NBA
National Hockey League = NFL
Super Extreme Xylophoners = SEX

The acronym takes the first letter of each word. See?

Derogatory is an adjective used to show a noun being defamed, insulted, disparaged, or spited against (does that make sense?).

For example, calling a homosexual (or anyone, for that matter) a "faggot" is derogatory (it's implied that it wasn't said in jest).

Why can't you just give out bans for spamming it?

Permanent Solution 11-29-2005 05:20 PM

Now now mods...you close the comm thread "for spam" and create a new one you guys spam up? Tsk tsk, elitism. :p

(Unless you're actually serious about closing the comm thread for spam in which case wtf?)
