Chuck Berry started punk.

AndreTheHyena 02-28-2006 02:43 AM

Woody Guthrie was the first punk.

sketchyjoe 02-28-2006 09:17 AM

I'm so tempted by that advert that just has a big red button and the caption: "THE FART BUTTON (Press it, you know you want to)"

Skidmark Steve 02-28-2006 09:25 AM

holy_roller99 02-28-2006 11:50 AM

man i just finished off getting my grandpa's guitar fixed. it is one of those old holowbody jazz guitars and it sounds SWEET. i had to twist a bar in the neck and almost took my head off with an allen key

sketchyjoe 02-28-2006 11:59 AM

If you play more than two chords, you're showing off.

RetiredAt21 02-28-2006 11:59 AM

What kind of guitar is it?

holy_roller99 02-28-2006 12:05 PM

it is called an Emperador. somwhere around late 1950's to early 1960's model. it is a sunburst color and sounds beatiful. kida twangy though.

RetiredAt21 02-28-2006 12:13 PM

Sounds real nice. And do you mean twangy like a Telecaster?

holy_roller99 02-28-2006 12:17 PM

it si acoustic electric so not as twangy as a telecaster but i nicer milder twang

Jessizzle 02-28-2006 12:18 PM

Im taking a classical guitar class next year. i cant wait.

holy_roller99 02-28-2006 12:22 PM

they dont offer that kinda thing at my school:(

Jessizzle 02-28-2006 12:23 PM

My school is really big on sports and music.
This class is going to be alot of guitar theory, which i like, but alot of playing too.

holy_roller99 02-28-2006 12:27 PM

my school is a poor country school inhbabited by a bunch of hick redneck jocks who are lead by our nazi principal.

Anarcho Poser 02-28-2006 02:55 PM

So what do you folks recommend in the way of Bob Dylan albums?

Liebensaft 02-28-2006 02:57 PM

I'm taking Music and Film and Instrumental Music Lab next year. I'm so excited

Music and Film is watching movies and listening to music and reviewing them and stuff like that. I think.

Instrumental music lab is playing your instrument pretty much. You learn a lot about theory and stuff too, from what I've heard.

/can't wait.

The Times They Are A-Changin'

sketchyjoe 02-28-2006 03:07 PM

The Times They Aare A-Changin' is probably his seventh best. It's his most conventional protest folk album.

Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks are his best. Then Bringin' It All Back Home, Freewheelin', Highway 61 Revisited, Another Side of Bob Dylan and Times They Are A-Changin'.

Desire, John Wesley Harding, Nashville Skyline, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid and Street Legal are good too.

Unban Me Says Cameo 02-28-2006 03:11 PM

Blood on the Tracks is his best electirc, IMO. So ****ing scathing, emotional, regretful, reflective, etc.

sketchyjoe 02-28-2006 03:27 PM

There aren't many more bitter songs than Idiot Wind. There aren't many more wistful songs than You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go. There aren't many better narratives than Tangled Up in Blue or Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts. There aren't many better albums than Blood on the Tracks.

It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) is his best song though.

That track alone lifts Bringin' It All Back Home to his 3rd best album for me (even though the rest of it's great too).

Brain Toad 02-28-2006 04:29 PM

Or the bootleg album with Johnny Cash

AndreTheHyena 02-28-2006 05:59 PM

I think I'm the only person in the world who thinks Blonde on Blonde is totally overrated.

My favorite is Freewheelin', though Highway 61 gets mad props for inckuding "It Takes a Lot to Laugh...", which is my current favorite Bob Dylan song. I think The Times They Are a-Changin' is my second favorite.

Blood on the Tracks is excellent, but I think Dylan's best bitter "break-up" song is, without a doubt, "Don't Think Twice".

sketchyjoe 02-28-2006 06:02 PM

Blonde on Blonde does have some filler with the more standard bluesy numbers but it also has tracks like Visions of Johanna, I Want You, Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands, Just Like a Woman and Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again that more than make up for it.

Positively 4th Street is another great bitter song.

Daniel! 02-28-2006 06:40 PM

Blood On the Tracks is my favorite Dylan mainly because of Idiot Wind and Tangled Up In Blue. Bringing It All Back Home comes in a close second though.

Glitterati 02-28-2006 06:58 PM

Freewheelin' is probably my all-time favorite Dylan album, but Blood On The Tracks is growing on me.

Bringing It All Back Home is really could too, it has It's Alright Ma, Maggie's Farm, AND Mr. Tambourine Man.

Ghostfire3 02-28-2006 07:22 PM

Blood On The Tracks is a pretty good album.
