TimJim 02-13-2007 04:44 PM

so do mine

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 04:44 PM

i cant remember if i ever asked you this, but why do you still have those pearl hats..?

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 04:44 PM
i have that pearl hihat

sucks bad
I drilled holes through mine so they're tolerable.

Chippy569 02-13-2007 04:47 PM

you could drill a 14" diameter hole through it, that'd make it REALLY tolerable.

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 04:48 PM

Haha

Chippy569 02-13-2007 04:48 PM

;) glad i could make you smile.

coffee_spiders 02-13-2007 04:51 PM

Drum Phil are all your drum pieces part of the same brand and stuff? Or can you just get lots of different ones and build them together yourself?

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 04:53 PM

his cymbals?

you buy whatever sound you like.
and it doesnt really matter, as long as you arent sponsored.

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 04:54 PM

My toms and bass are Ludwig, my main snare is Pearl and my aux snare is Sonor.

The cymbals are a mix of Sabian, Zildjian and some cheaper brands.

My hardwares mostly pearl and stagg except the pedals which are yamaha.

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 04:55 PM

phils set is the definaition of a mutt.

coffee_spiders 02-13-2007 04:55 PM

What's wrong with being sponsored?

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 04:58 PM

Nothing. It just means you have to use one brand of cymbals/drums.

MattMarlow 02-13-2007 04:58 PM

Nothing's wrong with beign sponsored, means ltos of cheap/free stuff, but they wont like you usign other brands:)

Seafroggys 02-13-2007 04:58 PM
What's wrong with being sponsored?
everything.

I only have two of one brand of cymbals. I have Sabian, Wuhan, Zildjian (two of them), Paiste, and Amedia.

Sonor, PDP, Pearl, and Gibraltor Hardware.

My drums and heads are single brand (Sonor drums, Remo heads)

MattMarlow 02-13-2007 05:02 PM

Can mutt kits look nice? (Ones that don't match, not just different brands like Phils). Opinions?

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 05:02 PM

Those are jellybean kits.

For someone like me, No.

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 05:03 PM

probably can look even cooler, if you do it right.

coffee_spiders 02-13-2007 05:03 PM

Different opinions. heh.
Well free stuff always sounds appealing.

TimJim 02-13-2007 05:04 PM

amen!

MattMarlow 02-13-2007 05:08 PM

Jellybean huh, i think they could be quite nice if they had the same type of finish, satin, sparkle etc...

And yeah, free stuff rocks, but i think the best most of us can do is the competitions in mags, MD is running a $9000 giveaway atm, Tama Starclassic Bubinga in Ultraviolet Sparkle, as well as full compliment of Meinl cymbals, and vater sticks and whatnot, only open to the US though:( Rhythm is doign somethign similar too.

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 05:11 PM

Im just building up my cymbals slowly.

TimJim 02-13-2007 05:12 PM

phil, you like cymbals over drums, eh

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 05:16 PM

cymbals>drums any day in my opinion.

good cymbals can make a bad kit sound good, with good tuning.

an amazing set cant make horrible cymbals sound better.

Drum Phil 02-13-2007 05:18 PM

Yes. Theres no point in having an amazing kit with crap cymbals.

I normally only take cymbals, snare, pedals to a gig so i want them to be the best.

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 05:20 PM

yup.

TimJim 02-13-2007 05:24 PM

ohh

Undisco Kidd 02-13-2007 05:34 PM

Everyone.

Go out and buy Melvin Sparks' 'Legends of Acid Jazz'.

Incredible Acid Jazz/Fusion/Funk.

8 minute instrumental version of Sly Stone's "Thank You (Falettin' Me Be Mice Elf Again)"

Orgasmic to say least.

Awesome guitars and organs. Not to mention some really great drumming.

MattMarlow 02-13-2007 05:35 PM

I'd rather have a starter kit with pro cymbals than a pro kit with starter cymbals, any day, bad drums still sound like drums (If you tinker enough), bad cymbals sound like shit

Hmmm, when avoiding the filter, why does everyone always edit the third letter in 4 letter expletives? odd...

Little Android Man 02-13-2007 05:41 PM

fuck.
shit.
cock.
cunt.

i always edit the vowel.
