:naughty:

Nah, it's a small gig but I'm excited nonetheless. We are so unprepared.
Good luck, hope it goes well.

thisis sceneSUICIDE 06-04-2005 01:24 PM

Gah, it's impossible to start a band around here...

But I don't think I'd want to. I like planning/booking shows and all that jazz.

I have an internship next year with a local record label. We'll see how that works out. Ha.

tsl_ste 06-04-2005 01:25 PM

Thanks babe.

Its easy to get a gig here, theres a pub i go to, and all you have to do it go up on stage, well i say stage, its just a closed off part of the floor, and play, its called "jam night" and if the pub likes you, you can get regular slots playing and stuff.

tsl_ste 06-04-2005 01:28 PM

well, i'm gonna go get naked, throw on some sweet choons and relax in a shower.

cya ya'll in a bit.

So many great games coming out.

Chris - Try and get a recording of your show! I remember everyone found my first show's recording hilarious when I uploaded it a while ago... Mainly due to Rik and my terrible vocals.

Around here we rent out places and book our own shows. So it's not hard to get a gig, you just do it yourself.

We've had As Cities Burn and Spoken come through and play shows organized by local teenagers.

It's kind of cool, honestly. Go about an hour off and there's a great hardcore scene.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:30 PM

Ha, i still have it.

"Hello everyone"

The place does recording but I don't know if we're going to do it just because the quality will be so bad. But I was discussing recording opportunities with the drummer last night and it looks good. There's a bunch of places around here that recored really well (Clover Hill and Marigold both have incredible recording) plus the drummer knows a kid who has a semi-studio in his basement.

billiejoe84 06-04-2005 01:33 PM

I wish York had a decent scene. There's a bit of a death metal thang going on, which my housemate next year is involved with, but there are pretty much no small pop-punk or ska-punk shows at all. The last local pop-punk show I was at was my band's one. Which is a bit pitiful, and it's not for lack of trying to find shows.

York = crap for live music.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:34 PM

Man, i've really got to get a badn sorted.

Chris, do you play any covers ? and if so what covers ?

What type of music do you play, and what instrument do you play ?

thisis sceneSUICIDE 06-04-2005 01:35 PM

We have a few post-hardcore/screamo bands around here that are halfway decent.

And a few really crappy metal bands. That's pretty much it for my town.

I think theres some places you can rent out, but since my town used to hold the record for the most pubs in a square area (i think) then you can get gigs and crowds pretty easy.

Most bands around here are indie/punk, theres a big indie scene in manchester.

We might be doing either an ATDI, Joy Division or Thursday cover. We play indie/rock basically, the guitarist is influenced alot by Interpol. I play bass, there are two guitars and drums. I sing on some songs and one of the guitarists sings on the other ones. I guess my biggest influence is Thursday. But we go from like fast, dancy songs with clap parts to slow, reverb songs.

billiejoe84 06-04-2005 01:41 PM

Ah. I seem to have reached the point where I can't be arsed with work anymore. My dissertation is driving me nuts! I'm gonna go and have a pint now, see you guys later.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:42 PM

Cool, my mate is a big Modest Mouse and Interpol fan.

I like Thursday, i have Full Collapse.

In our band, i wanted to do pop-punk/punk songs, but the bassist wanted to do slow, clean songs and we ended up coming to blows...

Ta-ra.

wow, i've gone past 7k...

cbmartinez 06-04-2005 01:44 PM

I think I'm going to leave the indie band after this gig and pursue one of the following:

-A post-hardcore band that I've written about 6 songs for. I had originally been jamming these with the drummer of the indie band but it was put on hiatus cause of the indie band.
-A good pop-punk band, like Saves The Day or The Starting Line. The pop-punk bands around here are horrendous
-An acoustic band. I was writing some acoustic stuff today and it sounded cool.

I'm also putting together a metalcore band that's going to sound like Norma Jean.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:47 PM

Where did you get all thee people who play/like the same music as you ?

The best music anyone likes around here is Blink 182...

I would really love to have a band like Rancid/NOFX and more recently a melodic hardcore band..

Untitled 06-04-2005 01:48 PM

I just want a simple fun pop-punk band.

thisis sceneSUICIDE 06-04-2005 01:51 PM

www.purevolume.com/easilyoverlooked

One of our better-known local bands. Most of ours sound and look like these guys.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:51 PM

TBS, would be big influences for me.

Backing vocals are very important.

Haha, it's hard. I've been looking for guitarists for the post-hardcore band for like a year now and now I'm down to saying, "Let's just do a three piece." I wrote all the guitar stuff for the songs though, I just need a guitarist who I can teach it to and who likes and can write the same kind of music. As for the pop-punk band, that was just an idea, I don't have anyone lined up for that. The acoustic band would only have to be like 3 kids. The metalcore band is basically with some kids I haven't seen in 3 years.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:54 PM

Are all these musicians people you know and are friends with ?
It's really hard to find drummers and vocalists.

I like to be i control though, like write most of the music and lyrics etc...

I would probably end up singing even though i suck...

cbmartinez 06-04-2005 01:55 PM

No offence, but that Easily Overlooked band is horrible.

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:55 PM

Quiet, child!

Sadly enough, I agree, but if anybody around here found out, I'd be skewered.

Yeah, with the indie band, I only knew the drummer and he introduced me to the two guitars. The metalcore band, I know the singer and the gutiarist (I haven't seen the guitarist in 2 years), and the other guys are friends with the guitarist.

Hahahaha. The newest craze around here is scene bands who think they are indie because they use two chords and scream the whole time. Honestly, I hate it when hardcore bands put indie, experimental and progressive in their genre. Everything about them screams, "We want to be the Blood Brothers."

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 01:58 PM

oic, that band seems not too bad.

You wanna know the sad part?

I wore my Blood Brothers shirt one day.

Singer (supposedly the most musically enlightened one of the bunch...) goes "Who the heck are The Blood Brothers?"

Untitled 06-04-2005 02:00 PM

Hmm, i agree, this band isnt the best off.

Im gonna put alakline trio back on...

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 02:01 PM

I like the second song..

You are so lucky. Around here, every fucking kid in the scene worships the Blood Brothers. Don't get me wrong, I love them, one of my favorite bands. But all the bullshit that is associated with them is ridiculous. People act like they're musical prodigies.

Kif 06-04-2005 02:03 PM

So me aunt and uncle are here because it's my aunt's birthday, and I have Finch on. I usually listen to stuff like Straylight Run, The Get Up Kids and The Early November when they come round because my uncle likes more indie/rock stuff.

Random? I should think so

Also, I saw something on mIRC earlier. Someone had EVERY Pennywise album. I waited for 3 hours and still got nothing :(

Rancid Dan 06-04-2005 02:05 PM

ha, unlucky Rick.

Pennywse are meh, their stuff sounds the same.

I hae 2 of their albums..

thisis sceneSUICIDE 06-04-2005 02:05 PM

I really like The Blood Brothers, they came through twice in the past 6 months. It excited me.

But around here, very few people know who they are. And the ones that do don't like them cause they aren't "straight-up hXc."

But around here, kids think hardcore is things like Underoath, From First to Last, etc.

It's rather pathetic.

Kif 06-04-2005 02:05 PM

I don't know if Jared will see this but... ACENSIONS ARE BEING ADDED ON KOL IN 5 DAYS!

This rules, now I can do more quests
