I don't know what your talking about, are you talking about Kill Em All or some of the RTL songs? or are you meaning Hetfield writing stuff for Kirk? Kirk writes his own solos

RiceMonster 12-24-2004 07:23 PM

I mean the solo on Call of Ktulu. Mustaine co wrote that song. I'm not sure If Kirk played Mustaine's solo or if he wrote his own.

Fernandes Power 12-24-2004 07:25 PM
nooooo he's written every solo except ride the lightning, ktulu, and all of kill em all. he's only written one whole song, and that's sandman
Mustaine didnt write all of the leads for Kill Em All...

He did write the one for RTL and he wrote the 3rd clean riff at the beginning of Ktulu (also heard in Hangar 18 by Megadeth). I think he wrote the solo for that too... thats the only thing im not sure on.

Cliffs solo is considered a solo... i mean the other instruments are playing during a guitar solo arent they...?

And the 3rd guitar solo in Orion is actually a bass solo (with the two harmonizing lines) and the last solo was written by James

Kirk didnt play or record anything for Nothing Else Matters but he did write the main riff for Enter Sandman

yea it is a solo

and where do you ppl find out all this stuff? i've learned it mostly over the last few months here at the forums

Fernandes Power 12-24-2004 07:31 PM

From people like me?

Various people, websites and books. Plus the section called 'Whiplash' in the Metallica fan club magazine provides alot of info. :thumb:

Joe 12-24-2004 09:51 PM

well no this is actually the first time i've seen you here in R&M. i've learned from a lot of people in these threads

I'm not in the club...i hear their are some great gift's and stuff. maybe i'll join the next year their on tour and get early tix

Rasta Rocker 12-24-2004 10:38 PM

anyone know of a new metallica cd? cause i sure hope its better than St Anger (not trying to offend anyone that likes St Anger, its just im more of the old metallica type)

Man, solo is the very last thing to write in a certain song. It's that way 99% times. If Dave wrote solo for Ktulu that means that the song was ready before Kirk joined them. But they never performed it with Dave in 1983, did they???

For the first time Ktulu was played already with Kirk. It took place in Las Cruces, NM, New-Mexico University on 08/28/1983. :thumb:

you've got a point. the solo is more often than not the last thing ever written in a song...

Helstrem00 12-25-2004 10:25 AM

Metallicas changed alot over the years but atleast they kept the same style, theve gone through I think 3 bassist (correct me if Im wrong) ...

Who would you guys say is their best bassist?

My personal oppinion would be Jason :thumb:

btoto 12-25-2004 10:43 AM

^ *waits for Cliff fans to arrive*

btoto 12-25-2004 10:44 AM

^^ actually, they had 4 bassists. The first guy was Ron Welty, 1982-83 :thumb:

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 01:20 PM

you know ron! nobody knows ron

who was the chick that was with them for awhile?

btoto 12-25-2004 01:32 PM

I don't know any chick who was with them. Maybe you're talking about Marianne Faithful??? They recorded only one song with them

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 01:34 PM

i just remeber seeing this wierd live video and they're playin with a chick as the bass.

but then again it could have been rob from behind but im about 99% sure that it was a chick

Acutally Jason is my least favourite for sum reason. At first I felt rob felt like just a session guy. But when he's played for Ozzy and BLS (wow zakk) and others i can't be bothered to mention u gotta love him. And of course (i hope)everyone loves cliff

ThrashHead 12-25-2004 01:34 PM

Yes! This Christmas is awesome! My radio station is playing 24 hours of Metallica today with no commericials! HELL YES!

I personally like Rob, when I saw them in concert I could tell a big diiference. Plus he's an awesome bassist. He was doing some crazy solos and stuff on the bass between songs.

kirk_wylde 12-25-2004 01:35 PM

Maybe one of the fans got to play with them as a fan club thing.. or it was rob. But no fulltime female basist

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 01:36 PM

thanks god**** clear channel my old rock station is now a latin rap station. so i get no metallica ever!!!!!!

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 01:36 PM
Maybe one of the fans got to play with them as a fan club thing.. or it was rob. But no fulltime female basist
o it might have been that

btoto 12-25-2004 01:38 PM

NO, Marianne is chick who sang on The Memory Remans. (worst tallica 'song)

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 01:40 PM

heh yea memory remains is not a shing example of james's singing

kirk_wylde 12-25-2004 01:41 PM
NO, Marianne is chick who sang on The Memory Remans. (worst tallica 'song)
yeah he was on about sum random live video, with (who he thinks is) a woman on bass.. dunno

Dosen't really matter though

Rasta Rocker 12-25-2004 02:23 PM

I think cliff was the best bassist, jason was a terrible bass player, he didn't play any of the good stuff like Kill em All or Master of Puppets, that was some good bass playing. Metallica firs did the insanely good stuff thats hard for people to cover, but then they did black album which is easy for the average schmo to play and thats with jason

JACKROXYOU 12-25-2004 03:50 PM

yea jason was just ok but thats why we have rob now

Joe 12-25-2004 06:23 PM
yea jason was just ok but thats why we have rob now
well jason didn't like bein with metallica any more. but your right, now they have rob and rob is probably the most skilled out of cliff (rip), jason, and himself. even tho cliff was the metallica bassist, he wasn't as skilled as rob is

metallicamaniac16 12-25-2004 08:01 PM
NO, Marianne is chick who sang on The Memory Remans. (worst tallica 'song)
Honestly, I like The Memory Remains, and the rest of Reload. But it definitely doesnt compare to Master of Puppets or Kill em All.

Rasta Rocker 12-25-2004 08:43 PM

rob kinda freaks me out...lose the pig tails...but metallica is back and nothing else matters

azianmetalhead 12-25-2004 09:22 PM

Yeah, atleast they're back to their heavy days. Unlike Load and Reload.

Joe 12-25-2004 10:03 PM
rob kinda freaks me out...lose the pig tails...but metallica is back and nothing else matters
he's so awesome. he's a pretty weird guy

Joe 12-25-2004 10:04 PM

i just got Live Sh*t Binge & Purge, and you all were right, it kicks ass

RiceMonster 12-25-2004 10:32 PM

I'mhungryForASandwich 12-26-2004 03:57 AM

Rob looks like a drunken Indian Ninja that now plays bass for Metallica

btoto 12-26-2004 04:51 AM
Honestly, I like The Memory Remains, and the rest of Reload. But it definitely doesnt compare to Master of Puppets or Kill em All.
I love both Load and Reload. But Marianne's voice in that song makes me commit suicide :D

crossface 12-26-2004 05:21 AM

in the lyrics of the song Fade to Black, at the bridge part i tought i heard james say "French-fries" :confuse:

Drummin4eva 12-26-2004 06:34 AM

K,I have a question, during Metallica: Cunning Stunts, while they're doing Enter Sandman and that crazy fan is all over the place hanging from the roof and all the equipment goes off and the pyro techs are going everywhere and ****. Is that real?

Joe 12-26-2004 11:16 AM

it probably is real, but they set up all their stunts and have them end up in a certain way. so it's probably staged
