I just got home from work so I am doing good.

Arucard 12-19-2004 04:40 PM
eh, just steal some riffs from Iron Maiden and play them with a wah wah pedal. As for the solos, just wank on 2 strings.

Or look at Iced Earth. Not very many extremely fast solos but they're one of the best power metal bands.
Yup, i was just listening to some nightwish, and they arent to complex either. Im pretty pleased with the **** i wrote, but can somebody reccomend me a good scale to write power riffs in.

jpj 12-19-2004 04:41 PM

What bands should I start with for power metal?

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 04:42 PM

Children of Bodom

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-19-2004 04:43 PM

Lyrics are kinda cheesy, but the guitar work is sweet.

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 04:46 PM
edit: and betsey's if you want... even though he's a transexual motivationist and nobody wants that shit music...
u watch urself fag. ur ded 2 me.

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 04:49 PM

Hehe. ;)

So basicly, Iced Earth, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, COB and mekalalklakka's are optional as some fo them aren't the biggest names in powermetal and that's a lot to get into all at once.

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 04:50 PM

CoB wise my first power metal band, and they got me wanting more.

jpj 12-19-2004 04:51 PM

I downloaded som CoB, and at first as was thinking "man what have I been missing", then the guy started singing and I was all ewwww :(

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 04:52 PM

You will get used to it.

/Goes gets CoB cd.

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 04:53 PM

Haha, yeah. When I listen to them I basicly just don't pay attention to the singing at all. They would be a great instrumental band.

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-19-2004 04:55 PM

If you start to like Children Of Bodom, check out Norther...

They are like them, but minus the 80's like synths. They still have synth's, but not that style.

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 04:57 PM

I wouldn't say they are 80's style. Van Halen had the 80's style going on.

jpj 12-19-2004 04:59 PM

I like the synths so far, I hope I get used to the vocals because the music is awesome.

Arucard 12-19-2004 05:00 PM
What bands should I start with for power metal?
My faves are (ive been listening to it for four weeks max) :

DragonForce
CoB
Iced Earth
NightWish (re-discovered today)
Angra
Blind Gaurdian

None of those are too extreme.

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 05:00 PM

Van Halen and synths do not mix well :(

Arucard 12-19-2004 05:02 PM

I thought 1984 was there best album bar van halen 1.

Riva 12-19-2004 05:03 PM
What bands should I start with for power metal?
Rhapsody
DragonForce
CoB
Melechesh
Iced Earth
Symphony X
Stratovarius

and who could forget MANOWAR!?!

The Kings Of Metal.

Posers leave the hall!

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:04 PM

CoB is a terrible band to start power metal with... They are a great band, but they sound nothing like real, typical, power metal.
Melechesh
Maybe their lyrics are a bit fantasy-like, but aren't they more black/death?

superpeer 12-19-2004 05:09 PM

Power Metal again? Jeez.

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:10 PM

What now? Is that Belgia country or whatever against Power metal? Those dumb elitists.

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 05:11 PM

This is getting a little too dragons and kings for me.

superpeer 12-19-2004 05:11 PM

I don't like a lot of Power Metal.

Just Rhapsody and CoB, maybe Hammerfall. Most of it annoys me.

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-19-2004 05:13 PM

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 05:14 PM

TSO is on TV!!!!

Riva 12-19-2004 05:16 PM

Hmmm... before we all start putting on the chain-mail, CHANGE OF TOPIC.

So, I was eating some pizza last night... ;)

I like it just as long as I'm in the right mood. If I'm in the wrong mood, yes, it annoys me a bit.

I'm only talking about the dragon slaying medieval bands aka Blind Guardian, Edguy, etc. Bands like Iced Earth, Nevermore, and Children of Bodom are completely different, for obvious reasons

I got a 4 meat pizza in the freezer...don't make be bust it out.

superpeer 12-19-2004 05:18 PM

I just had a snack, almost time for bed now.

Riva 12-19-2004 05:18 PM

Oh yeah?

Can that compare to a REAL pizza, not a fast food one, with tons of pepperoni, cheese, tomato, oregano, pineapple, ham, bacon and capsicum?

BludgeonySteve 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

I'm eating an orange :(

Mekkalayakay 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

So this Greenbay vs. Jacksonville game is close. :amaze:

/listens to the somewhat operatic vocals of Focus

NP: Focus - Sylvia

Bartender 12-19-2004 05:20 PM

I actually don't think bands like Iced Earth and CoB are very good bands to start on power metal with. I mean yeah, they're power metal, but there's also other metal in there. CoB especially, since they're in a tiny, tiny minority of power metal bands that use harsh vocals.

gmoneyguy 12-19-2004 05:21 PM
