yeah my one friend sent me rivendell and i was like :meh:
idk they sound like Hollenthon but better. Maybe you expected something else. |
They don't sound like Hollenthon imo. And yeah Rivendell is better than Ahnenstahl.
Rivendell imo doesn't compare to Summoning, but as far as the rest of the mediocre folky-sympho black goes it rapes them clean.
im not too much into the folk stuff anymore

Using a sitar in black metal is definitely a Hollenthonesque thing to do (Old Walking Song by Rivendell). @ folk black metal: Festung Nebelburg \m/_:)_\m/ |
Folk Black Metal has it's times where your just like "Hellz yes" and then other times where it's just like "*Smashes head against wall* SHUT THE **** UP!!!"
i agree with this guy
Folk black metal is pretty useless.
The closest I get to that is Agalloch, and they aren't really black metal, so yea.
I guess I really haven't heard any folk black metal though, but from what I gather, I'm not missing out on much. |
Bergtatt by Ulver is easily the best in the genre, a lot of it is bad though.
A lot of metal, period, is bad. It doesn't make sense to condemn a whole genre based on the crappiness of some (or most) of its artists.
Gorgoroth will always be one of my favorites
Metal is just really, really inconsistent. The only other genre as bad is probably dance/other electronic music. At least there's the good stuff though.

I'd say metal is consistently bad with the few good bands. |

yeah, but when you think about it, ska and country, for example are even worse genres, because theyre so consistently bad |
Old country is consistently awesome though so MYTH BUSTED
If you look at any other genre of music metal is actually the one that is the least generic. Even though it is still terribly generic. What other genre has so many sub-genres?
Try electronic music. So broad it's ****ing ridiculous. Blanket terms like pop, electonic, world are all more diverse than metal and have more sub genres.

IM TALKING MODERN MY GOOD MAN |
There are a lot of electronic music subgenres but most of them from the present time seem to be dreck. I used to listen to Radio Seven on an almost daily basis, but it got old pretty quickly.
Old-school artists / bands like Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre and Brian Eno are the shiznit though. Ghoul Hunter, agreed about country music of an earlier time ... before whiny castrati singers thought it would be cool to sing about how their girlfriends left them and stole their pickup trucks or whatever |
Kraftwerk are awesome.

'sup h4x0r
Var hälsad, Herr Ron! Yeah, Kraftwerk are l33t but they probably have the most puerile lyrics of any band I've ever listened to though: "Am Heimkomputer sitz' ich hier / und programmier' die Zukunft mir" OMG he's ... like ... writing programs ... as he ... like ... travels forward through time ... how profound! Actually, that's not entirely true; some of the (German) lyrics on Radioaktivität were actually pretty meaningful. |
wow thats interesting
