Yeah I just chucked on a limiter quick so I could record some shit. I'm not the best with limiters anyway so it's something I'm gonna work on before I do any more serious recordings.
it really does peak pretty bad, ALMOST clipping, which isn't good

tbqh you probably dont even need a limiter at all. take it off and upload mix to see what happens.

personally, i dont add any effects to my guitar other than the amp/cab plugins and a high pass filter. don't even add compression

although my tone isnt as bone crushing as yours, its decent, and the mix will breathe a lot better

(lol i learned all this shit from kuffuffled)

http://soundcloud.com/raayl/my-vitals

like, in this tune, there would be almost no room for vocals if it was mixed in a similar way to yours - which is something you need to consider, when planning on adding vocals

bone crushing riffs peaked to fuck just dont usually sound good. i think periphery has proved that scientifically

For "bone crushing riffs" read "anything". Additionally, for "periphery" you can also read "Metallica's Death Magnetic".

Epidemechanical 02-06-2011 11:42 PM

ya youre right

Kuffuffled 02-07-2011 01:25 AM

no dynamics is in guise just enjoy it

Exhiccani 02-07-2011 04:11 AM

Hi all

I'm newbie, hi

The Transporter 02-07-2011 09:05 AM

periphery dnyamics are in bulb's face while playing

benfan 02-07-2011 09:57 AM

Saw Periphery on Saturday with Tesseract. Both were awesome. Periphery played an instrumental set. Seeing them on thursday aswell.

Epidemechanical 02-07-2011 09:59 AM

lmao two of the worst bands ever congrats on that

every tesseract song:

0-00000-0-000-0-0000

(with clean chords on top)

same for periphery so

wow looks like you got the shaft on that one

benfan 02-07-2011 10:01 AM

Not really. Was a good gig.

And judging by the big crowd they have quite a lot of fans in leeds aswell. Go figure

fatbandit 02-07-2011 10:01 AM

weren't you all into tesseract not that long ago, raayl? and you're one to talk about brickwalling ;D

Epidemechanical 02-07-2011 12:42 PM

what is that supposed to mean

like i cant change my mind after listening

oh wow bro you got me

I suppose it comes from when my mixes used to clip all the time so I used to just throw an extreme limiter on it rather than spending time adjusting volume levels. Laziness prevails, apparently.

I'm pretty much winging everything I do, mixing-wise, so I need people to call me on what's probably not a good idea, so cheers dude.
periphery dnyamics are in bulb's face while playing
Haha it's true.
periphery dnyamics are in bulb's face while playing
Why the instrumental set? What was wrong with Spencer? I mean, when I went to see them in Manchester Jake had broken his fingers now they're not even doing vocals?
periphery dnyamics are in bulb's face while playing
Yeah i really enjoyed it. Did you notice that Tesseract's live sound isn't particularly loud but is perfectly balanced.

AG 02-07-2011 01:37 PM

Nice job on those quotes SBT.

The Transporter 02-07-2011 02:26 PM

lmfao anyone who says periphery is good is super bad at music

shit used to be dece back in the day with original jake, but now it's just absolute shit

i remember when you guys were shooting boners over casey sabol lol terrible

benfan 02-07-2011 02:33 PM

SBT - TesseracT sounds was good, im sure the vox were processed through some rack gear before the desk though. Spencers vocals were shot but he did the last 3 songs. Hopefully he'll be fine to do Rock City on Thursday.

Squirrel 02-07-2011 02:43 PM

So this job interview coming up is for two positions, and only 4 people are attending. Good odds :D

benfan 02-07-2011 02:51 PM

Good luck mate.

Squirrel 02-07-2011 03:00 PM

Cheers dude, it'd be life changing so i'm hoping for the best!

Epidemechanical 02-07-2011 03:05 PM

i never understood how metal vocalists can tour like that playing shows every single night

you will ruin your voice

Kuffuffled 02-07-2011 03:06 PM

New song guise, might wanna turn up the mix is kind of low right now

This goddamn Mac keyboard is beginning to annoy me

benfan 02-07-2011 05:04 PM

Nah Spencer is good man. The songs he sang were spot on aswell. Hit the high notes.

The Transporter 02-07-2011 06:34 PM

just cuz you hit the notes, doesn't mean the timbre and cadence aren't terribl

spirit 02-07-2011 06:38 PM
This goddamn Mac keyboard is beginning to annoy me
Riiiiiight. It's the keyboard's fault.

Epidemechanical 02-07-2011 10:57 PM
Nah Spencer is good man. The songs he sang were spot on aswell. Hit the high notes.
wow your standards for vocalists are laughably fucking low

"he hit the high notes"

idk if anybody told you this

but high notes =/= make you good singer

and for most male vocalists, high notes are fucking terrible and should never be done ever

Kuffuffled 02-07-2011 11:49 PM

Why are we arguing about periphery...... again

benfan 02-08-2011 08:48 AM

Ahahaha i love the fact that your trying to argue opinions with me. I enjoy their music, and also the vocals. Regardless of what does or does not make a good vocalist. Its all subjective at the end of the day.
The comment about his high notes was more to do with the fact he had a bad throat and thus, would be expected to struggle with the falsetto side of the singing or whatever.

You and Tranny should try and stop bieng so bitter about people liking the band dude.

The_Mop 02-08-2011 09:27 AM

And here I was thinking the standard of discussion had gotten better over the past few months...

The Transporter 02-08-2011 10:11 AM

i could subjectively say bob dylan is a good vocalist, but i would still be wrong

just sayin

also lmfao at mop acting like he's at higher standard than the rest of us

fingers mccoy 02-08-2011 10:20 AM

you aren't all laughing

no one laughs when someone argues poorly

there's nothing funny about it

stop saying you're laughing all the time

have some fucking perspective

The Transporter 02-08-2011 10:37 AM

i honestly just like typing "lol" and "lmfao" or any of the countless other variants

benfan 02-08-2011 10:37 AM

I get that you guys dont like them, but dont you think its a little more than that? I dont like Converge and most of the R&M lot do, yet i dont go on little attacks about them.

The Transporter 02-08-2011 11:13 AM

dude is good at guitar for sure

his mixing and songwriting abilities are questionable though

singer seems out of place on the entire album. maybe it's cuz he's singing Chris Barteao's lyrics and melodies instead of his own, but either way the vocals just sounds like an huge afterthought

benfan 02-08-2011 11:17 AM

I can respect that.

They are tight as hell live. Whoever was mixing it did a good job because i cant imagine its easy getting a good sound out in a live situation.

I lol'd (actually) at this. Well done sir.

In regard to the Periphery debate: I like them. I honestly couldn't care less what anyone else thinks. Caring what music other people like is the first step to being a trendy scene kid. And dear god I hate scene kids so, so much.

I was going to go Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham, but Birmingham fell through and Newcastle was a no-go cause I had stuff to do for work the next day. I went Manchester with my mate who lives up that way and we enjoyed it so much we decided to try and get tickets for London but later discovered it was sold out :(

benfan 02-08-2011 12:08 PM

A few of the dates are sold out. Its pretty nuts. I wonder how well they will cope with the geordie accent bieng American!
