Which album did you get, The Maniacal Vale?

Ventriloquist 08-13-2008 02:13 AM

So far I got, Subconscious Dissolution Into and a song from Metamorphogenesis.

the2stranger 08-13-2008 04:24 AM

Both are ace albums, get the rest of Metamorphogenesis as well and of course The Maniacal Vale.

Ventriloquist 08-13-2008 05:03 AM

On it now.. Can you think of any other similar bands? Doom bands with more atmospheric melodies?

rasputin 08-13-2008 08:58 AM

check out Worship, Mournful Congregation, Doom:VS, Shape of Despair, Colosseum for funeral doom with emphasis on atmosphere. Except Doom:VS is only a little bit funeral doom. but still good

willfellmarsy 08-13-2008 09:05 AM

Need some life-altering doom..anybody got a rec? I'm looking for a versatile vocalist and fantastic drummer...

Correction 08-13-2008 09:22 AM

Finally found Reverend Bizarre's last album, and it truly is completely amazing.

Kage 08-13-2008 09:25 AM

Such a great album.

pate 08-13-2008 03:00 PM

yarly

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:11 PM

I'm pretty new to this genre, but it snapped me up as soon as I heard Kyuss for the first time (don't slap me, I was hibernating) a few months back.

I'll read through the thread and get a few more bands checked out - my boyfriend's a massive High on Fire fan, easy access to le tunage.

StonesOfOctober 08-13-2008 04:12 PM

Kyuss one has on good album and even then its not that good. HoF is \m/ though

Band you should check out:
Sleep
OM
Candlemass
Saint Vitus
Reverend Bizarre
Pentagram
Witchfinder General
Trouble
Solitude Aeturnus (already mentioned)

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:15 PM

Which album's that?

StonesOfOctober 08-13-2008 04:16 PM

Blues for the Red Sun

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:16 PM

Already got Sleep's Holy Mountain, muchly appreciate that fine bit of work, as for the others, duly noted danka.

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:18 PM

Blues for the red sun was the first album I heard, and definitely my favourite. I have come across much better to be fair, but it's the album that tickled my fancy with the genre so I can't complain!

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:23 PM

Question - has Jesu been mentioned anywhere here? I've been into pretty much anything Justin is responsible for over the last few months, and I'd consider a lot of Jesu to be pretty doom-laiden and melancholy but in a very bittersweet way.

Any thoughts?

StonesOfOctober 08-13-2008 04:26 PM

Jesu full-lenghts are pretty awesome, but some of the eps and splits are kind of bad.

Txus 08-13-2008 04:27 PM

yeah, jesu is pretty popular around here. I personally love Jesu, silver, the split with envy and the self titled are my favorite Jesu albums I think...

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:30 PM

If I had to choose one, it'd be Silver.

I love remembering when I first heard Jesu though, it was a cathartic experience.

Ventriloquist 08-13-2008 04:33 PM
Through the Darkest Hour
Beyond The Crimson
Into The Depths of Sorrow

in that order
Dude what about Adagio? Should be in that list.

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:35 PM
Through the Darkest Hour
Beyond The Crimson
Into The Depths of Sorrow

That actually looks a bit poetic, that list. Yes, darkly poetic. You should call it Faustus. Me likey Faustus.

Tyr 08-13-2008 04:47 PM

Silver's probably my favourite Jesu as well.

Myrrhman 08-13-2008 04:47 PM

jesu sucks

DiamondRope 08-13-2008 04:52 PM

If you think Jesu sucks, you should try lemons for that extra thrill.

pate 08-13-2008 05:45 PM
Dude what about Adagio? Should be in that list.
No way. It's decent, but not an essential SA album.

rasputin 08-13-2008 07:20 PM

I like Into the Depths of Sorrow better than Through My Darkest Hour. I haven't heard Beyond the Crimson though.

Jondur 08-14-2008 02:13 AM
No way. It's decent, but not an essential SA album.
Adagio doesn't have the songs of the earlier records, the production is just fantastic. THE doom production - the sound is so dense and powerful.

Usually I don't care too much about production but I can't think of a better produced album.

Agreed. Dunno I quite like that album.

ATM2 08-14-2008 12:13 PM

About to interview Nadja, so if you have any questions, post them here.

StonesOfOctober 08-14-2008 12:16 PM

What is Aidan's main motivation when writing for Nadja?

ATM2 08-14-2008 12:17 PM

You listening Brian?

StonesOfOctober 08-14-2008 08:20 PM

yes I am, 8 hours late, but still listening.

jrowa001 08-15-2008 07:53 PM

anybody heard of Blood Ceremony? im really digging their self-titled debut that just came out this year. traditional doom/stoner album with female vocals and...yes...a flute player. it actually adds a nice touch. kind of reminds me as if Camel joined forces with a stoner metal band with a female singer. the keyboards are pretty nice too
