Besides Sadus and Coroner could you suggest me any other technical thrash groups?
Besides Sadus and Coroner could you suggest me any other technical thrash groups?
Hm... Voivod, maybe... Coma of Souls-era Kreator, of course... thrash isn't really that technical. You could try Testament for Skolnik's solos. The only albums worth getting are The Legacy and The New Order.

Oh, and Mustaine's riffing in Megadeth is pretty technical. If you don't know them. But I'm sure you do.

Stoic 02-26-2005 02:43 PM

I'm already familiar with all the groups you mentioned besides Voivod as I never bothered to check them out for some reason. Any song/album suggestions or other info? Is it true that when the recorded their first album they were quite immature musicians or something?

LordDargon 02-26-2005 02:45 PM

I can't really help you, I only heard a few songs of theirs. I have no albums. That's why I said "maybe". Look them up on http://www.classicthrash.com and look at the desriptions of the albums to see which one appeals to you. Don't pay attention to his ratings though, his ratings are anus - he gave Finished With The Dogs 5/5 and Pleasure to Kill 3/5?!!!!!!!! x 666

DimebagDarrell 02-26-2005 02:46 PM

well i didnt think they were that bad.

you forgot practice what you preach which is pretty much a classic

FatalEnergy 02-26-2005 02:48 PM

I picked up an album called Have a Good Time by a band called Soothsayer, I think it came out in 86 and it's thier only album and they're from Canada. The only reason I found out about these guys was I saw Ventor wearing a shirt that said "soothsayer" on it in the Toxic Trace Video. I decided to check the band out, and they are great old school thrash. I can't really compare them to anyone, the are pretty unique and have a great variety of songs. It's sad that they only released one album

Stoic 02-26-2005 02:49 PM

Alright, thank you for the link :)

LordDargon 02-26-2005 02:51 PM

Try Invocator - Excursion Demise, actually. I forgot about it.

Dimbag: PWYP is teh puss

DimebagDarrell 02-26-2005 02:53 PM

i have no idea what "teh puss" means

that classic thrash site your right about the ratings

exodus - bonded by blood 3
heathen - breakig the silence 3

 both absolute thrash classics

I've heard of them, haven't got thier albums though... i thought they were a sort of piss take band (like Acid Reign stlye).

ClassicThrash is pretty good for getting band sites to download some songs, although some of the ratings are poor.

That's Metallica? Any idea what year that was made? It sounds very crossover-ish.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-27-2005 02:58 AM

Are you sure thats Metallica? Doesn't sound like them to me.

clown_phobia 02-27-2005 03:02 AM

it said metallica.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-27-2005 03:04 AM

Where did you get it from?

FatalEnergy 02-27-2005 03:39 AM

Testament hates thier American fans

This is right off thier website

" Testament lead vocalist, Chuck Billy, and founding guitarist, Eric Peterson announce that original guitar player Alex Skolnick, and original bassist Greg Christian, and previous Testament drummer alumnist Johnny Tempesta, are joining them for a Reunion Tour in Europe, May 7 to May 15 ONLY. The tour will last for 9 shows only.

Each of the other three musicians have other bands, projects, and recordings coming out, but they have all agreed to join forces with Chuck and Eric to blow out this limited reunion tour in May. Chuck Billy is quoted as saying "I'm in music to enjoy it, and playing with my old band-mates after all these years will be killer!" Eric Peterson adds "This reunion tour takes me back 20 years, the fans will freak seeing us together again!""

I have Power Trap, it's kind of... jerky. The riffs are all rough and choppy. It's kinda meh.

MrMeat: I'll see what you got.

Dimebag: "teh puss" means it's pussy music.

Speaking of Metallica, what's the jury on the identical intro riffs to Leper Messiah and Among The Living? Who ripped off who? I know that ATL is usually considered to have come out a couple months after MoP but it's unlikely anyone ripped off Metallica...

I'll listen to that clownphobia guy's song in a moment, but keep in mind this guy posted "Can anyone match JAYMEZ HATFEELDS RIFFANG??///" so he's probably wrong :p
EDIT: Yep, he's wrong. I've never heard that song but it's definitely NOT Metallica.

metal-militia 02-27-2005 07:13 AM

It deffinately doesn't sound like Metallica. One reason is that the drumming is better than Lars could ever dream of doing :p

DimebagDarrell 02-27-2005 07:26 AM
