All right, excuse me. He was an overrated and mediocre drummer.
|
well then george we find ourselves back at the question, just what IS a great drummer?
|
*gasp*
Ringo was great, I don't think very many different drum parts could have worked for that music. And trying to evaluate playing in that time period from the stance of today is very difficult. At the time, the drumset had only been around about 50 years or so. It's been almost twice that now, and a lot has developed since when ringo played. Not to mention just recently, this really incredible learning tool and information sharing tool, the internet. |
Chip - All one's opinion. I just found him simple and bland.
Jos - I don't knowww. He could've mixed it up every once in a while. |
Purdie was good lol jk jk more joey http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHorSAHgQ-M&NR

I like the more expirimental beatles songs, not a big fan of the pop rock stuff though.

In terms of technicality? No. He was nobody. But that's not what the drumkit is about. The drumkit is a musical instrument, not a gymnasium. Ringo was a great drummer. |
wtf is that thing above my post
|
sometimes, music calls for simple and bland, ala any White Stripes-ish music.
IMO, a "good" drummer is one who plays what the music calls for, and ringo did that mighty fine. |
To george
True. One must understand though, in that situation, with the amount of money that was going on. There were a lot of people behind the scenes. Including producers and managers. It's very plausible, and happens very much today, that ringo's playing was 'forced' simple. It was a formula that worked, was blowing up all over the world and making mad money. From the business stand point, the producers and managers stand point. Doing something different wouldn't be smart. They found the formula, and stuck to it pretty good... until the drugs kicked in haha |
Marshall - So do/did I.
Jezen - That's what I'm getting at. I mean, he definitely fit the music, but he never really seemed to shine. Anyone could shine in some way in that position. I just always felt he could've done more without being too overly technical. Chip - Right, again. Once again, I'm just focusing on technical sorts. Jos - Stop being right. |

It's a marmalade sandwich. |
Just really "discovered" the Beatles more this year. Listened to a bunch of my dad's old cd's. I knew about them before but only about 10 songs. I can say now I love them. Definately a great band.
|
Beatles were not really my style. The only old rock I band I really like Is King Crimson.
|
King Crimson wails.
Saw Robert Fripp open up for Porcupine Tree on Oct. 9th at Berklee. |

With that crappy of a lineup it should be. :-/ |
You know what was surprising, I went to another counties school to play for a "jazz fest"(yeah frickin right, there were all of like, 30 people) after school today. We walked into the rehearsal room and there stood an old Export(with the old through-shell mounting system) with rusty ZBT hats, an Orchestral Avedis as a ride, and a cracked Sabian AA medium crash. The other drummer and I sighed as we thought it would be another concert playing on sh1tty school equipment. Then we walked on stage and there was an ok Ludwig kit, but it was out fitted with all A Customs! I was so happy. Anyway, the concert went really well. That's my story about my night, what about your guys'?

Ozzfest is full of shitty metal bands...
Unless i'm mistaken. |
