I would say SfaM is DT's best work, however you kinda need to listen to Metropolis part 1 to fully appreciate it. So yeah, SfaM just edges out I&W for me, but I still love I&W to death.

FatalEnergy 07-29-2006 10:46 PM

Six Degrees....is the only DT album I don't have. It's always been a bit on the expensive side when I see it. Is it worth getting?

Darkness 07-29-2006 10:58 PM

That's because it's two discs. Yeah, it's worth getting just for the first disc. I find the second a bit bland, but you may like it.

eug009 07-29-2006 10:59 PM

Definatly, especially since they play the whold second disk on score which i'd say you would be getting

eug009 07-29-2006 10:59 PM

I actually like most of the second disk, especially about to crash

FatalEnergy 07-29-2006 11:01 PM

I'll look on Amazon.com when I get some money and see if I can find a cheap copy.

heavy metal kid 07-29-2006 11:05 PM

My favorite song of 6DoIT is The Test that Stumped them All, i love the weird backing vocals and the crazy intro.

Darkness 07-29-2006 11:07 PM
I actually like most of the second disk, especially about to crash
I really, really don't. Believe me, I've tried to get into it. The lyrics are horrible.

Inkstar 07-29-2006 11:52 PM

Yeah, I find 6DOIT is kinda hard to get into. The first disc is brilliant. The title track, however, takes some convincing. But I still think it's a great album.

Kreator2112 07-30-2006 12:18 AM

I got 6DOIT free...from a..friend. Yes, a really close friend.

inassociationwithdeanlearner 07-30-2006 05:27 AM
My favorite song of 6DoIT is The Test that Stumped them All, i love the weird backing vocals and the crazy intro.
I love that part too, me and my friend always sing along to it even though half the time we get the words wrong.
Its actually portnoy that does that backing bit.

And yeah i hate the way SDOIT is so expensive...i mean i know its two disks but does that really warrant charging 24 british pounds for it??

DaveTheAmazing 07-30-2006 05:33 AM

Does anyone know if I'll be able to burn all the songs from Score onto my computer in the same fashion that I would do with a CD, if I just buy the DVD?

inassociationwithdeanlearner 07-30-2006 06:55 AM

I know that it is Possible but you cant do it with wmp or anything like that, i'm pretty sure you need a special program.

inassociationwithdeanlearner 07-30-2006 06:56 AM
i think "blind faith" off of six degrees of inner turbulance is one of dream theater's best songs . . .
I think you're right there actually, it really grew on me and now i cant get enough of it.

Kirk's Puppet 07-30-2006 07:27 AM

I don't like 6DoIT's Disc 1. The title track is awesome.

I personally isn't a big fan of Rudess-era-DT to be honest.

Yeh you can do it, just google for a program

I prefer Moore over Rudess but I still think Rudess is a great keyboard player, Moore era>Rudess era tho

Kirk's Puppet 07-30-2006 08:05 AM

eug, there's no doubt thar Rudess is better technically. His changes to Kevin's WDADU parts are very bad though. For instance Only A Matter of Time.

DaveTheAmazing 07-30-2006 09:25 AM

Maybe I should just buy the CD instead of the DVD.

Atica 07-30-2006 11:13 AM

Yeh dave you should buy the cd. :)

Lord Abortion 07-30-2006 11:34 AM

Misunderstood and Disappear are my favourites off the first 6Doit disk and Goodnight kiss and solitary shell off the second

Shattered_Future 07-30-2006 11:57 AM

I never really liked the second disc too much, and the only song I've really listened to off of the first was TGP.

Moore can write music that's TONS better, but Rudess can play much better.

Adam Jones is GOD 07-30-2006 12:35 PM

Goodnight Kiss is probably my favourite Petrucci moment. That solo changes mood so effortlessly. And the Great Debate is a great song, managed to convert my friend to DT through it, as she's really into the stem cell research issue.

Moses 07-30-2006 01:12 PM
Moore can write music that's TONS better, but Rudess can play much better.
I disagree. Rudess is pretty much the epitome of the perfect musician. Moore's music is more interesting but I wouldn't say it's better because Rudess just knows more about music in general. Plus Rudess's solo stuff is pretty badass as well.

Rudess's music is objectively better, whereas more people can enjoy Moore's music in general.

Keyboard players are in high demand right now, which is awesome for me. :)

FatalEnergy 07-30-2006 02:00 PM

I think Moore was slightly better, because he fell into less wankery than Rudess.

Roo_bass 07-30-2006 02:37 PM

I like Sherinian.

*runs*

Jev 07-30-2006 03:20 PM

Sherinian didn't write anything on FII though did he?

FatalEnergy 07-30-2006 03:26 PM

I don't think he did, and he didn't write A Change of Seasons. That was Moore. So, he didn't really do anything

Jev 07-30-2006 03:30 PM

Yeah, they did tell him though that he was only temporary. So he knew his days were numbered.

Koto 07-30-2006 04:32 PM

My fav from 6 degrees has to be solitary shell

Jev 07-30-2006 04:35 PM

Mine's Disappear.

Lord Abortion 07-30-2006 05:20 PM

I can't pick a favourite overall from the two disks, that would be evil to make me do it.

FatalEnergy 07-30-2006 05:25 PM

I still need to get that album. That and Octavarium are the two I don't have.

eug008 07-31-2006 12:51 AM
Yeah, they did tell him though that he was only temporary. So he knew his days were numbered.
Meh, he's got his solo stuff insted which is pretty kickass

eug008 07-31-2006 12:54 AM
My fav from 6 degrees has to be solitary shell
My favourite would probably be Blind Faith followed by The Glass Prison

Roo_bass 07-31-2006 04:33 AM
I don't think he did, and he didn't write A Change of Seasons. That was Moore. So, he didn't really do anything
Oh, snap.

DaveTheAmazing 07-31-2006 06:05 AM

Does anyone know what the "Octavarium cartoon" is, exacly? On the mikeportnoy.com forums, it is mentioned as being one of the bonusses of the Score DVD.

Lord Abortion 07-31-2006 07:01 AM

It was the cartoon they ran on the video screen when playing Octavarium live last tour.

eug008 07-31-2006 08:00 AM

/Probably in youtube, ill check it out tomorrow

It was played during one of the instrumental parts during Octavarium. It's pretty funny and cool at the same time.:thumb:
