NemesisDivina 04-10-2008 08:22 PM

Shouldn't you play first base then?

I have a buddy who is 6'6 and skinny as hell, he's a first baseman on the team.

Are you restricted to pitching the ball in a certain style? Cos you could easily break that speed if you pitched it like a softball or bowled it like in cricket.

hardly

my pitching coach has the pitching motion broken down into a science.
I asked him the same question, and from 60 ft, you get the most velocity from overhand. Imagine a rubber band.

Not to mention its shit easy to hit a flat pitch at 90, but really hard to hit a downward 83 mph pitch.

Also, you are much more restricted underhand in terms of types of pitches (fastball, changeup, curve ball, slider, knuckle, slurve, fork, split-finger)

I dunno. I'm sure your pitching coach is acquainted with the idea of a trebuchet. Catapulting the ball garners a lot of momentum, but it is really inefficient. And I'm pretty sure that softball pitches are over a similar distance.
