I can't stand that album. I bought it on tape and I haven't even been able to get through the whole thing.

dr._feelgood 09-15-2005 09:21 PM

Hmmm... based on this second opinion I may change my mind.

Kingofdudes 09-15-2005 09:25 PM

Eh, early Pink Floyd is like that. Though I wouldn't take it so far that I couldn't get through the whole thing.

dr._feelgood 09-15-2005 09:32 PM

Isn't it late Pink Floyd

BludgeonySteve 09-15-2005 09:35 PM

Oops, I tend to get it confused with other ones. Yes, it's late Floyd. I think we will all agree that 71-79 was Pink Floyd's prime. (exept for you trippers)
Hmmm... based on this second opinion I may change my mind.
You might as well give it a shot, it's not like you're paying for it or anything. if you don't like it, just put it away. Personally, I like those particular songs that KingofDudes pointed out. Learning To Fly is extremely cool.

standard 09-16-2005 12:51 PM

MLOR (Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a very good album IMO.

Some "true fans" can't stand it because there's no Roger Waters.. Which is fine, their opinion. But I think early PF is simply terrible.

temporary 09-16-2005 12:55 PM
My uncle gave me A Momentary Lapse Of Reason, is this Waters-less album any good?
Theres a lot of filler, but Sorrow, On The Turning Away, and Learning to Fly are all very good. On The Turning Away, in particular, is really underated.

standard 09-16-2005 01:03 PM

Sorrow is very good.

Learning to Fly is good, but to .. meh synthy sounding.

Yet Another Movie has like a minute of garbage, but then it gets in the song, and it's a good song.

On The Turning Away is amazing.

One Slip is alright. Pretty good.. not too Pink Floyd sounding though. The tempo is a lot faster than most other Floyd songs.
(except for you trippers)
Since I'm the only one who thinks early Floyd was better I'm assuming you're refering to me.

I thought early Floyd was their peek far before I ever touched any psychedelics. I wasn't even that big into weed when I started to think that either.

Am I really the only one who thinks that?

WelcomeToTheMachine 09-16-2005 01:15 PM

i think that the early years were just as good if not better then the Waters days

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 01:57 PM

The early work is growing on me. I like A Nice Pair. I haven't heard Pipers At The Gates Of Dawn(Is that right?), But I'm sure, when I listen to it, I'll like it. Coz It's Floyd. Have they made something bad(before Waters left)? Floyd - Waters were ****. They made a load of crap. But, Waters made that band. He was the creative one. Writing lyrics and making the songs. He did everything for that band.

BTW: Rogers Waters' solo work. Could someone recommend me some of his solo work please. Thanks.

Waters actully only wrote one song off Piper and it's the weakest song on the album.

OK, we have 2 anybody else?

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 02:05 PM

Was Piper before SOS?

WelcomeToTheMachine 09-16-2005 02:06 PM

^^ Yeah it was, it was PF's debut album

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 02:09 PM

I always thought Piper was a Soundtrack for a movie. What was I thinking.lol

The wall, The final cut...

When they wrote as a group, they wrote fantastic music. when waters took over most of the writing, they stopped making great music, and when he left, they did not restart.

Waters or no waters, I can't stand it because its not a very intresting album.

What? The Wall? That's under the name Pink Floyd not Roger Waters. I meant like ROGER WATERS. his totally solo work, away from PF.

I think Roger made better music on his own. It's very much more musically great than the early work. Water made the group more mature. The early work, IMO, was them having fun as young adults.

standard 09-16-2005 02:25 PM
But, Waters made that band. He was the creative one. Writing lyrics and making the songs. He did everything for that band.
How can you say he did everything? Honestly.. He did a ton, lyrically. But the rest of the band did the music. Waters rarely even played bass on the albums, most of the time the band would get pissed cause he couldn't do it after so many tries, so Gilmour would come in and get it done quick. Gilmour also wrote a lot of music for the lyrics that Waters produced. It was a communial thing, Waters wrote lyrics, and the rest of the band went from there.

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 02:27 PM

But what about Animals and The Wall? Waters wrote everything didn't he?

standard 09-16-2005 02:32 PM

Animals he wrote, except for Dogs.

The Wall, he wrote all except..

Young Lust
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell
and The Trial

temporary 09-16-2005 02:37 PM
But what about Animals and The Wall? Waters wrote everything didn't he?
Nope, the whole band wrote Animals. Rogers wrote almost all of The Wall, but Gilmour wrote most of the guitar work. Rogers always wrote always wrote the lyrics, though.

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 02:43 PM

But on the back of the Animals cd case, It says (Waters) Next to all the track names. I figured that meant 'wrote by:'

standard 09-16-2005 02:46 PM

It does, and a lot of songs do say Waters, but a lot of times he didn't write the lyrics, or play bass on the song for that matter. Waters never gave his band the credit they deserved.

Prince of Darkness 09-16-2005 02:51 PM

The Wall, IMO was the bands best work, as cliche as that may seem. Animals coming second to that. Pink Floyd made good music in the start, but then it was not just Waters working on the music. That was fun psycadelic music they made. But later, Waters was moving away from the band to make the music himself. That IMO, worked. As he grew even more apart of Pink Floyd, he went on to start a solo career. That should be good, as he was the musically creative member of Pink Floyd. Can someone post the Discography of his solo career please. Thanks.

POST 1000 for me. Yipee.

I've never recieved a clear answer about this....... Why did Roger leave the Floyd?

DBoons Ghost 09-16-2005 02:56 PM
I've never recieved a clear answer about this....... Why did Roger leave the Floyd?
He didn't.

They kinda kicked him and his giant ego out of the band.

standard 09-16-2005 02:57 PM

Well first him and Rick Wright had a problem, which is why Wright wasn't on The Final Cut.

Gilmour and Waters have really always never seen eye to eye. They've always had disagreances, and eventually Waters just.. left, or maybe they kicked him out? Either or. So Gilmour and Mason brought back Wright to make 2 more, I think, very good albums.

I've always liked Gilmour a lot more than Waters though, vocally, musically, and even as a person. He seems to be a better person.

I lost a lot of respect for Waters when I heard he spit on a kids face who was crawling up on the stage during DSoTM.
