audio of your funk playing plz

Brokensticks 02-09-2007 11:07 PM

I am venturing into jazz right now, always been all about the rock, how I was raised. Listening to a Miles Davis album. It's not what i'm used to but it's not too bad.

drummguy731 02-09-2007 11:07 PM

Play some tool for us too. How bout 46 and 2? Nah, too easy. Eulogy, with all the electronic stuff Danny does at the beginning. How about some Horacio Hernandez stuff, or some Tony Williams.

Zildjian_man 02-09-2007 11:09 PM

hard rock FTW

Jezen 02-09-2007 11:09 PM

Tony Williams? Burnin down a ride at 300bpm? Ok good luck.

TimJim 02-09-2007 11:10 PM

dont got a recorder dude.
i would if i had a web publisher too

poopoogaypoonn 02-09-2007 11:11 PM

my nigga...may I call you my nigga?? youve obivously have mastered funk, congragulations! send David G. , John Jabo Stark, Zigaboo, etc. (JB drummers too) a card telling them you think theyre style of music iseasy ... that is why I love MXDP

Static 02-09-2007 11:11 PM

So Gary Chester kicks ASS.

yes?

Undisco Kidd 02-09-2007 11:12 PM
I also realized that the middle triplet is not played in jazz a lot unless it is a full triplet.
Not true at all. If you get Jim Chapin's book Advanced Technique for the modern drummer, there's some great stuff in there using the middle not of a triplet.

Commonly, yeah, there's just the beat and thet 'ah', but dismissing an entire 1/3 (considering you're swinging triplets, not 16th's) of the beat is dumb.

Try tossing is the middle triplet on 1. and then play the '2 uh' on both the snare and ride.

R: x--x-xx--x-x
S: -x-x-x-----x

if that makes sense.

Brokensticks 02-09-2007 11:13 PM

You're pretty ignorant Timmy. Saying everything else is too easy.... You obviously havn't been listening to the right stuff.

Futuro 02-09-2007 11:13 PM
Tony Williams? Burnin down a ride at 300bpm? Ok good luck.
ya wtf.

MEtal is one of the easier genres out there today.

Espescially this metal core garbage.

drummguy731 02-09-2007 11:15 PM

Get a cam corder, or a reality check. You've been playing what, 5 or 6 years? You honestly think that playing metal, with the least skill requirement of a drummer(aside from endurance, for most metal at least), is the hardest? Seriously man, look at stuff that Vinnie Colauita does, or Horacio with his left foot clave. I highly doubt you could play the clave stuff with everything else that Horacio does.

TimJim 02-09-2007 11:15 PM

no, it just comes naturally

so funk isnt my best, but one band that uses it alot is jonezetta

and i probably couldnt, but ive been playing almost 8 years

drummguy731 02-09-2007 11:17 PM

I highly doubt blazing away a jazz beat at 300 bpm, with all the stuff on the snare, comes naturally.

Jezen 02-09-2007 11:17 PM

So wicked fusion playing comes naturally to you? You must be the best drummer in the world!

Zildjian_man 02-09-2007 11:18 PM

Shut up tim

Futuro 02-09-2007 11:19 PM

Well maybe he is listening to Athiest. Cause some ofthose drum parts are hard as hell.

TimJim 02-09-2007 11:20 PM

not what i meant

i bet ur all better guys and gals in person

drummguy731 02-09-2007 11:21 PM

How bout playing in time sigs like the one Futuro was playing in, 26/16(I forget)?

I wanna hear your groove shift from 7/8 to 5/4 to 9/8, or is that too easy?

EDIT: We would be better here but when you make an absurd statement like that, we tend to jump on them.

Undisco Kidd 02-09-2007 11:23 PM

Timmyjimmy, you said you're getting 2000 dollars for good SAT scores?

Buy a cheap 10 channel mixer and a MXL 990/991 pack. Bare minimum you need to record. It'll set you back maybe 150 dollars.

Then you can show everyone how you're the best drummer in the world.
