From my experience with long relationships (2 years taht ended in July), they're great till you breakup and then it's all downhill and completely not worth it.

Ok, time for me to weigh in with some older-dude, jaded advice in response to all this relationship talk.

I've been in involved with 4 of my friend's ex's, and none of the situations really worked out. The friends who found out were upset, and I've lost several friends because of these situations, no matter how "cool with it" my friends have said they were. It's never a good idea, be very wary.

Part II: "Friends with Benefits" schemes never work out. Someone always gets attached and it's a mess.

At yes, the friends with benefits thing has gone on a few times in my friend group. Bad scene. Especially when this guy was a friend with benefits to everyone. That ended really badly.
