You sure don't look like a Colombian, Nisa!

nisakss 09-23-2004 10:34 AM

Well maybe it's because my dad is swedish.

moxshyfter 09-23-2004 10:36 AM

Haha, silly hybrids! ;)

I would have guessed that you and your girlfriend were both American if I hadn't known any better.

nisakss 09-23-2004 11:00 AM

I read the other day in a calssical guitar instruction book, that you should never let your fretting hand thumb go past the middle of the neck. Does that also apply to the bass? Because I always let my thumb to pick over the neck, I even fret with it sometimes. Is that wrong??

moxshyfter 09-23-2004 11:03 AM

I think it depends on how high your bass is. But, por lo general, you want your thumb to be as close to the middle of the neck as possible when you are fretting. Imagine that you are using your thumb and fretting-finger to pinch the neck in the same spot - entiendes?

There is also un argumento that says that brings la pulgar over the neck es mal para the wrist. I have never had any problemas with it, but this is just what I have heard.

nisakss 09-23-2004 11:05 AM

Yeah I've never experienced dolor por hacer eso neither. As a matter of fact, it kind of reliefs me from the pain sometimes.

ShelBel 09-23-2004 11:05 AM

I know a bassist who has really good hand position most of the time, but every once in a while he lets his thumb hook over the top. He says he only does it to give his hand a rest after he's played something that tires his hand.

I guess it would be whatever feels most comfortable for you. One thing I've learned is that there are really no hard-and-fast rules. :D

moxshyfter 09-23-2004 11:06 AM

^ ^ Es verdad ^ ^

nisakss 09-23-2004 01:55 PM

Is there someone in here??

Saitoku 09-23-2004 02:00 PM

I'm here now, but I'll probably be gone in a second.

nisakss 09-23-2004 02:01 PM

Nooo!!! I'm bored.

Saitoku 09-23-2004 02:02 PM

You like Spinal Tap?

nisakss 09-23-2004 02:03 PM

I love it, I saw it laike a month ago, and I've already seen it like three times.

And you?

Saitoku 09-23-2004 02:04 PM

Yeah. I like the part where the bass player gets stuck inside that pod thing on stage.

Saitoku 09-23-2004 02:06 PM

Also, the amp that goes to 11. For when you need a little extra.

nisakss 09-23-2004 02:07 PM

That thing is hillarious. Btw, did you hear the song they play like with three basses, big bottoms I think it is.

Saitoku 09-23-2004 02:08 PM

Oh yeah. You know they actually spawned a hit from that movie? I can't remember which song it was though.

nisakss 09-23-2004 02:13 PM

Yeah, they even got to tour and put out a cd if I'm not wrong. But it's just that they are quite convincing, when I first saw it I was sure the band existed, although it did seem weird that Fran Drescher (the nanny) was a music producer. SHould have know by then...

FUNKNBASS 09-23-2004 02:15 PM

This Is Spinaltap is by far the greatest mockumentary ever. "Get me out of this HELL HOLE". The seen when the bassist got stuck in the pod is priceless.

I have it one DVD and I've seen it like 20 times. I love that movie.

"He died in a freak...gardening accident. It was one of those things the authorites decided was best, you know, unsolved."

Jaded 09-23-2004 02:28 PM

"I don't think the correography was the problem. I think it was the fact that we had a Stonehenge monument onstage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf. That tended to understate the "hugeness" of it."

nisakss 09-23-2004 02:35 PM

aahahahha, yeah that's extremely funny, how about the interview when they say say that they are not university material

Radiobass81 09-23-2004 02:44 PM

I now have E and A with flats and D and G with rounds... I know, comkpletely off topic, but it gives such a cool sound...

PaulSimonon 09-23-2004 03:02 PM

I string the D with an A string, a bit hard to pop, but the tone is immensly better.... I'd put heavier strings pn the others, but I don't want to spend the money and my fretless needs new flatwounds anyways....
