I'm not going to reply to your pre-edit as it demeaned the both of us, you bloody troll.

Is it too much partying, or just an increase in workload?

masscows 04-10-2008 07:57 PM

I've been getting better grades as a senior because all of my classes are complete bullshit

Tyler 04-10-2008 07:58 PM

We use percentages here in Canada. Makes a lot more sense. Letter grades go out the window once you pass, like, the third grade.

pate 04-10-2008 07:58 PM

I had History Through Film my senior year of HS. It was great. Watched so many great movies, broken into 50 minute episodes, so I wouldn't get bored.

Most US high schools use number grades and the uni grading system is on a 4 point scale that can be translated into letters.

The marks are based on percentages, but we use letter grades as the final indicator. It's a bit silly when you think about it, as one person could have only just scraped into the D catergory, whilst another was almost a HD, yet they have the same mark.

The percentages along the way for interim work is pretty good for showing what you need to score on the final exams, though.

pate 04-10-2008 08:00 PM

Some unis use a plus/minus scale, which is ****ing gay.

:(

anyway, its a combination of
1. knowing where im going to school next year
2. we have a laptop program where we..."take notes" during class
3. i don't really do much homework when i get home
4. baseball practice, games, etc.

lol damn. I got a 2 on my AP European one. I have really done nothing this year in AP US History also. I'll probably get a 2 on that one as well. Maybe that is why I didn't get a good grade; we didn't do as much **** as you guys.

Riva 04-10-2008 08:03 PM

Yeah, I know what you mean, except for the laptop issue. If you wanna do well at Uni though, you have to get into the habit of either paying attention in lectures, or studying after class. I had a rude awakening in first semester of Uni because I was just cruising like I did in high school, and realised I only knew 2/3rds of the subject matter when exam time swung around.

pate 04-10-2008 08:03 PM

Yeah, I had the rude awakening my first year as well.

GPA after first year: 2.998

Cumulative GPA now: 3.45

I know im going to get a rude awakening next year, but the good thing is that the hardest part of school for me is paying attention for such an extended amount of time, and the waking up early.

I won't have 7 hour days anymore, and i hopefully won't have any early morning classes.

Kage 04-10-2008 08:06 PM

Congrats.

What are you majoring in?

Riva 04-10-2008 08:06 PM

Your GPA is out of 5 though, right? Ours is out of 7, for some weird reason...

I'm so glad I have the chance to do Honours though. I'm just filling in gaps this semester for geology (Sedimentary Geology and Introductory Field Geology), and doing my 3rd year Chemistry subjects (Advanced Analytical Chemistry and Inorganic & Organometallic Chemistry), then I can graduate mid-year to start Honours in Minesite Rehabilitation! :D

half of America's is out of 4, and the other half is out of 4, with honors counting +1 point. Its nice being in honors, getting straight b's and looking like you apply yourself more than you really do.

Minesite Rehabilitation? Wtf is your major?

Edit: @Kage, i get to go in Undecided...its quite nice

pate 04-10-2008 08:10 PM

College =/= +1 for honors

NemesisDivina 04-10-2008 08:10 PM

Our Honours system is slightly different to yours though, I believe.

My major is Environmental Earth Sciences, which is broken down into Chemistry and Economic Geology.
